How about Tempur Sealy International Inc(NYSE:TPX)? their stock went down more that 30% this week based on the news that they ended their relationship with some mattress store i’ve never heard of, “Mattress Firm”. Apparently sales of Tempur Sealy products at Mattress firm stores account for 20% of Tempur Sealy’s business. but who cares, bro? Tempur Sealy is a beloved brand and people would crawl to the ends of the earth, waist deep in manure just to buy one of their mattresses.

Your thesis is based on brand loyalty to mattress manufacturer? LMAO. Oh and that store you've never heard of sells billions of dollars worth of mattresses a year.

Lets try to actually buy a yaht with Pepe Cash

1. Pool together a bunch of Pepe Cash.

2. Manipulate the market price by trading amungst ourselves for higher and higher amounts.

3. Convince someone that our Pepe Cash is worth a yaht.

While we're at it we can profit off the pump.

Honestly I think it'll work. Any money that doesn't get taxed immediately goes into the economic machine because Americans are retarded and love spending money. Good times ahead. At least if you're on the selling side and not the buying side. Then everything'll be normal except you'll spend on more shit.

WOW! I'll get a WHOLE FIVE PERCENT TAX CUT!!!

People currently in the 25-28% tax bracket are getting hosed and people who make the most money are catching the biggest break.

Gotta drain that swamp! Gotta rebuild the middle class, right? 8^)

Are there any economic lessons that the West can draw from the Gulf States? Dubai is widely considered one of the most beautiful and advanced cities in the world and is a great tourist destination. Emirates and Qatar Airways are easily the best airlines in the world. Saudi Arabia is planning on making the largest IPO in history in 2018 with Saudi Aramco.

The United States has massive reserves of natural resources. Is there a reason why we can't have nice infrastructure like they do?

Also, countries like Singapore and Hong Kong don't have natural resources, but exploit their strategic positions and services industry for their benefit. Could this happen in the West like it did in 1600s Europe, or in areas like Panama, where they have easily one of the most strategic shipping lanes in the world?

Hi /biz/,
I'm an International Relations / Poltics student (I know) taking my whole degree abroad. I've lived in 4 different countries at age 20 and have extensive connections to Japan, China, America and throughout Europe. I'm the rank 1 Uni in the country and would be looking to work abroad again literally anywhere in the world.

So my question is really what kind of sector / field should I be looking at going in to? I realise that having a degree in IR isn't as lucrative as say Finance, commerce or Law (even though i'm taking subjects in those fields throughout my degree), but what would be the most desirable position I could afford to go for comfortably with the advantages I've had?

I'm not really trying to wank myself off about what I've had the chance to do throughout life, but I'm just a bit misinformed about what I should be aiming for. A position in an embassy? Working in International Business in Asia? Consultation in the US? Any help would be appreciated.
14 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
So you took a degree without a plan in mind?
>>
>>1778435
I've always been keen on the idea of working anywhere in the world and was a huge cultural / historical buff in high school. Politics is something I've been interested in during the past few years so since I knew i'd be studying abroad and have moved from culture to culture so much throughout my life I'd take it as my major in University, whilst taking more 'employable' subjects like business and law on the side.

I wouldn't say I didn't have a plan per se, but more that I knew whereabouts to go logistically but not in any particular sector. I guess right now if I had to pick a dream job I'd go with working in an embassy or doing something like being a political envoy, but I'm also worrying about the economic and employability side of such a position, especially coming straight out of college.
>>
>>1778418
Bump for interest.

I'm not an IR major, but easily >33% of my introductory microeconomics lecture last semester was. Most of them were learning another language, most commonly Mandarin, Arabic, or Russian.

I don't go to an Ivy League, so is there a chance for any of these fucks to go to Foggy Bottom? I talked to a couple and they came across as the most annoying pieces of shit.

>decided to get coffee with one and work on our problem set
>"So, you're an IR major?"
>"yeah haha, I've always had very global perspectives"
>"That's good, so what kinds of stuff do you want to do when you're done with your undergrad?"
>"I want a position that gives me a lot of global exposure. My life dream has been to work as a diplomat."
>"That's nice"
>"And you're an econ major?"
>"Yeah, math/econ double major, I want to work on Wall Street"
>"But isn't that such a selfish life?"

Considering the fact you're on this board, I hope you aren't one of these people OP. Best of luck finding a lucrative position.

My girlfriend is an only child and her parents earn an (approx.) 1 mil USD / year. Her inheritance will be in the low 8 figure range, much of it invested in real estate. I'm in college full time and work part time. My parents pay for part of my tuition, and I cover the rest as well as rent. My girlfriend's dad is going to give me 20k interest free dollars to pay for the next 2 years of school, with the understanding that I'll pay him back after college. If we get married, the debt will be forgiven. The 20K, combined with my annual earnings of around 10k or more, as well as roughly 13K per year from my parents, and a 5k yearly scholarship, will be more than enough to cover my expenses. Additionally, i can potentially get in-state tuition next year or the year after, which will cut my tuition costs by about 2 thirds. I assume that I will have in the ballpark of 7 to 15 thousand dollars of unused money by the time i graduate. Should I invest it, pay back any unneeded money as soon as possible, spend it, or what? Also, for the long term, if i marry her what would be a wise investment with her inheritance? I figure than keeping it in land is wise, but what do i know...

It wouldn't be a crazy to assume you both are in your 20s and her father is in his 50s. He may live until 75 and you'll both be in your mid 40s. In short, thinking about inheritance now is stupid. You might already be divorced by then.

Give me your robinhood account.

I can pretty much make that 50 dollars into 100 within 2 months. Then give me 25% of all earnings.

If I were an American I would be able to use robinhood, but I am Canadian.

So I found a steady job a few months ago and I've been putting $100 from each paycheck into a savings account, but I was wondering if that money could be set aside for something better that would yield larger dividends in the long run?

tl;dr how does a chump who makes $2000-$3000 a month start investing for long term and what are better alternatives to a savings account?

I'm a millionaire. I don't usually have more than $3k in the bank. Millionaires don't have piles of cash sitting in a bank. That would be silly.

we usually have a house or two and a business. Sometimes our houses and our business are the same thing.

So your net worth is a million +. I've always wondered about that. Only around 3k though? What if your assets suddenly drop in value or depreciate ? I feel like id always want a lot in the bank at all times. Anyway, what do you do? I'm guessing real estate?

How to succeed without college education or a typical 9-5'er?

I'm about 25. I honestly do not mind being a gay escort, but it's dangerous and I don't want aids or to have my face plastered on some "outing escort" site. Otherwise I'd be down.

I'm alright at painting. I've been learning code but it will take forever for me to get great enough to snag work without a degree, and I am not good at thinking "like math".

I know there are many different ways to make money, by unconventional means, but.. how? I feel I am doomed to less than mediocrity. I just want to make roughly 70k-120k and not be miserable... At this point I am such a loser, it hurts. I want my family to feel kind of happy.

Is there demand for freelance essay editing on college campuses?

I'm thinking of posting ads at my local community college to edit students' essays for a price. Will people pay for this?
I was thinking like $3-$7 a page, depending on the type of editing.
After establishing trusted contacts, I would write entire essays for people for a much higher price, but obviously I won't advertise that.
If this works, I will extend advertisement to other college campuses as well.
The ads would basically just be flyers placed on bulletin boards.

What do you think /biz/? Is this a good idea?

I forgot to mention, I'm currently a high school student who is pretty good at writing essays, and will be attending a reputable college soon. So my credentials aren't amazing, which is why I will be charging less than professional tutors.

I was also thinking a first time discount would be a good idea, so that there's less risk for new customers, because they don't know if I'm a good writer yet.

Is anyone else greatly disturbed how facebook, google, etc are coming out making political statements? It is like STFU, your job is to entertain us and that's it. Seeing them band together and change policies to creepy pro-hillary garbage is a scary glimpse into the future.

Yeah, I saw those news reports too. I find it odd that anyone would care what the opinion of a store and a search engine would have to say. Furthermore, why would they even be allowed to influence anything pertaining to the political sphere?
>>

>facebook, google, etc are coming out making political statements?

Can you provide examples? And by that I mean, examples of political speech that go beyond serving their economic interest, i.e. beyond lobbying for or against certain regulations because they negatively impact the business they're conducting.

>Is anyone else greatly disturbed

I mean, they're private entities. They're entitled to whatever opinion they want. I'm not exactly disturbed by the plethora of businesses speaking out for conservative values either. If the business is the same, I don't care. And if it isn't, I can always vote with my feet and say "fuck you" to them. I'm not on Facebook. I block cookies from Google. I don't need them, why would their political position "disturb" me "greatly"?
