My 8 week old puppy whines all the time. I've only had him for 4 days and if I am not right next to him in the pen, or hes sleeping, he whines. I can be right outside the pen and he will still do it.

I have tried to ignore it (He keeps it up for hours), rewarding him for being quiet, and my vet gave me a pheromone collar, but nothing has seemed to work.

I know that whining means 3 things, bored, food, or bathroom. However it can be after a very long walk, i let him run around the house and play with him, and he has food and water in his pen, and still, he will whine.

Does anyone have any tips at all to stop him from whining? I know hes basically a 5 year old who doesn't know better, but it has to stop. I am really getting pushed to the edge, i am starting to think i am not cut out for this at all.

I'd say more personal attention. Petting, belly rubs, etc. Or mix it up with his playtime doing something like swimming.

I have been giving him belly rubs and lots of pets, but so far that hasn't seemed to help, hopefully the little guy likes the water.

Hey /an/ i got a gf that own a 2 years old male shih tzu, he is neutred and spoiled i just cant stand it, i met him two times, he was staring into my eyes frozen with tail shortly rapidly wiggling, when i tried to pet him he attacked me, she told me that he doest that to all the people that he doesnt know, so he only knows family, he is spoiled, so whenever he doesnt gets whatever he wants in the moment he starts to growl and bark, also he is barking for attention, he is also spoiled by food, he only eat treats, also what makes me rage the most, the people from the family doesnt even see it or realize it i think, they all like him, give him even more treats, when i make it obvious when chatting or talking with gf that i dont like him, she is like blinded and says stuff like "yeah thats him (the name of that rat dog)". also she is talking about him like about a god, saying stuff like he is confident and everything, he is not, he fears everything. i just wanted to tell someone cause i feel like breaking up with gf because of it.

Pls no fanboyism. I always disregard answers which begin with praising the first animal and then calling the other weak/coward cause all it tells me is which animal you happen to like more. It happens in every animal "vs" debate and it's always bullshit.
>>
I guess it would depend on where each one came from.

Both live in a wide range of habitats, so individuals probably differ in size, weight, and temperament.

Hey guys, I am having a hard time determining the breed of my new puppy.
The humane society told me he was a husky shepherd mix, but he looks more lab than shepherd in my opinion.

Alright, I cannot get rid of these fucks for the life of me. My parameters are good and I've tried two 4 day blackouts with hydrogen peroxide at 1.5x doses, to no avail. It hasn't killed any of my livestock so it's benign for the most part, but it's unpleasing to the eye.

>inb4 diatoms/cyano

I've dealt with both of these in the past with ease.
>>
>>2165232
they can be a bitch.
Personally I just wait them out or get animals that eat them. Usually if you've got dyno there's a lack of pods. Some fresh rock or sand with a good batch of pods might help.

Other than that try to get 0 nitrates/phosphates. Carbon dosing and solid skimming discipline might help. They often go away on their own for no apparent reason.
>>
>>2165232
a couple other suggestions in case you aren't doing them already-
run a UV sterilizer at an effective kill dose

dose vodka

fluidized bed or canister filter. Yes, they're nitrate factories but they also consume nutrients and compete with other nastier critters. A biofilter and a turf scrubber are an effective combination for starving out dino and cyano.

Passive filter carbon until it clears up.

Water changes, make sure your RO/DI is still working right.

Why don't people keep rabbits in large (500+ sq feet) outdoor paddocks or pens? It seems like it'd be lower maintenance and make the rabbits a lot happier. It'd also be pretty easy to predator proof the fence. Is there something I'm overlooking here, or are people just lazy? I was going to try and build a large pen for meat rabbits, but I'm a little weary because that nobody else does it.
Pic related, the only thing I could find resembling what I'm thinking of.

I have about 104 rabbits currentlly the reason most dont put large cages is because rabbits will just keep humping all the time even guy on guy which could lead to broken bunnys
>>
Rabbits dig, hump and fight. You would also need to have a roof over it due to animals that can climb or fly into the pen. The fence would need to be far into the ground because they are excellent diggers.

When I had meat rabbits(50 or so) they had the typical diy hutches without wire bottoms and we would rotate them in an out of a dog kennel so they had more space to run around. We would power wash the hutches and kennel so they weren't living in fitth or getting bumble foot from shitty wire bottoms. I think it was easier than small wire and wood hutches since that shit rusts and rots fast but then again when you are raising something to be killed people don't really care, which is why you'll see them raised in 2x2 cages that are never cleaned.
>>
>>2165220
That's a lot of fucking rabbits.
What do you mean by broken? Most of them wouldn't live more than 4 months anyway, and I'm sure I could handle putting down a few injured bunnies a year.
>>2165224
I already need to dig proof about 200 square feet of chicken fence, so I wouldn't mind doing a couple hundred more. I haven't had any problems with birds of prey in my area because they're too small to take anything, but raccoons/similar are an issue. Will rabbits go into a hutch or house at night like chickens will? It'd be easy to lock them up at night.

Can humans go into heat, or anything similar? When for a certain period of time, a couple of weeks literally everyone just seems like... seriously more attractive? Even when they know they normally would never go for those sorts of people?
Like there's a strange current in the air and falling in love feels so very easy, you'd blink and you'd miss it. And the whole thing would be so subtle, it'd take years to even realize there is a pattern to all this?

Long shot, but anyone know what's wrong with my dog?

>he had untreated arthritis, ticks/patchy fur, uncut nails

>Now:
>When lying on the floor, he will suddenly jump up and look back at where he was, like something bit him. I give him flea meds monthly.

>He has recently been chewing on my wall. This wouldn't seem that strange a behavioral thing for a young dog or one that has undergone a life change recently, but he is neither of those. Just wondering if it's related

>He sometimes won't stop panting, no matter how cool i keep my apt or how much water he has available to him

>took him to the emergency room the other day when he was having a panting fit, they did some blood work and said maybe a UTI but nothing concrete.

He's getting along in age, and I'm certainly far from independently wealthy, but it's not like I'm looking for an excuse to put him down. I just want him to be comfortable

Hey /an/, rookie rabbit owner seeking advice and possible comfort in regard to how my vet is treating my bunny

Took advice from a previous /an/ thread and set up an appointment to neuter my new pal, as well as treat an ear infection I noticed, due to shaking his head, and one ear always dropped. Was given ear drops on first visit to establish new patient, and found out his liver enzymes were over double what they should have been when pre-op bloodwork was performed on the next. Was told to continue ear drops, and to give an oral med to help with the enzymes. Came back a few weeks later, and more blood work shows the enzymes went down a bit, but not nearly enough for surgery, and the ear infection has persisted with treatment for over six weeks now, with the doc ordering a special balm to rub in his ears, so I won't have deal with daily drops anymore. Also, the nurse / tech told me that the doc was going to consider a procedure for the liver issue, but had to think on it and give me a call later that night, with no follow up thus far, and no meds issued to help treat it.

I'm no rabbit expert, and I'm looking to find out if there are things I can do to assist my bunny in all this. One of the bills notes that they think it is coccidia, and that was when they handed the oral meds, which has me feeling uneasy that there wasn't any additional meds given out this time around, and the doc having to take time to consider a procedure for the elevated liver enzymes. My family keeps saying that my rabbit isn't going to live long if it's liver issues, and that I should put him down, but I don't see any real signs of him being in pain, since lots of binkies and grooming kisses when I let him run loose, as well as lots of high speed zigzags.

I plan to either email or call the doc tomorrow and ask about things, and I'm trying to just learn as much as I can, to hopefully ask the right questions and obtain proper care for my rabbit.

Would it be unwise to ask the doc if they're yanking my wallet on all this, due to three visits over six weeks, with two more already planned and a possible surgery and follow-up after that? I mean, they charge $17.50 for a nail trim, as well as double the going rate for ear medicine that I can nab off Amazon, and $50 for a follow-up visit, which is tearing through the bank account, but at the same time, I don't want my rabbit to die, and not sure if he will if I don't keep on top of all these vet deals. I feel I need to explain to her that I'm at the end of my spending limit, before she suggests something really pricey, since I have about $200 left in the money I put aside for rabbit expenses for the year. I figure being honest and upfront is better than going in and landing another bill twice or more from what I expected, right?

I also am guessing it is fine to ask the vet about if my rabbit is potentially dying due to the enzyme thing? Stupid family comments and mixed google searches have me worried that he may be on the way out by natural selection over this coccoidia stuff. I'm trying to treat it the best I can by sterilizing things bunbun uses, but the doc never gave any plans outside of "give this oral med, come back later to check results", making this feel like unexplored territory for me.
>>
>>2164820
I don't have the attention span to read all that, nor do I know that much about rabbits, but I do have some words of advice. Exotic / small animal vet or no vet at all. If your vet isn't explicitly experienced with rabbits and other small animals, take it somewhere else. With anything other than cats and dogs, regular vets simply can't be trusted. Good luck, OP.
>>
>>2164887
This. Find a vet that knows how to treat rabbits. 'Regular' vets will just use a cat/dog procedure in smaller doses, which doesn't always work.
