Have any of you guys taken your pet to the vet for a lengthy visit, and when you return home your pet acts sicker or weaker than before?

I'm kind of freaking out right now, because I'd just taken my cat in for a visit yesterday and he had to stay at the vet for a little over four hours. When we brought him home he seemed fine, but now today he wobbles a lot more when he walks and just generally doesn't seem very able to walk. This is kind of strange as yesterday he was going up and down the stairs completely fine but now he can't even get up the second step without sliding around.

I've read a few things of pets seeming to get sicker after a vet visit, but it's never really happened like this for us.

What did you take your pet in for?
>>
>>2168958
diarrhea and vomiting and lack of appetite.

They did an ultrasound and something like a smaller biopsy when they found his stomach lining was thicker than it should be to see if it was a tumor. He seems to have gotten his appetite back, it's just that now he seems like he's very weak. Like I said he wasn't like this at all yesterday after I brought him home.

Maybe coming off of anesthesia. He might have to recover for a while

I've moved to a new house and it turns out a homeless cat basically lives in my garden. It now comes into my house, other than say buying cat food what else do I need to know about cats.

Just remember, there's a good chance that there are people around you feeding it.

Don't be an ass and hog the cat to yourself and lock it up inside.

This. Toms are classified like that for a reason. They enjoy prowling around fighting for territory and showing up to greet different humans. As long as he is fixed, let him go on his way. If he happens to still have balls, take him to the vet and do your community a service.
>>
>>2168979
Be mindful, just because he has balls doesn't mean he's not fixed.

The guy I got was a bit older when he got fixed, so he still has a little pair.

I want to get "redpilled" on the inner workings of nature. What to read?

I liked "The Balance of Nature: Ecology's Enduring Myth". Stephen J. Gould redpilled me on the role of chance, though he went a bit too far.

I've also read some books that take a contrarian stance towards the policy towards invasive species. These include "Where do camels belong?", "The New Wild" and "Rambunctious garden". I feel it is somewhat imbalanced but those books had interesting insights anyway. And I do read a lot of pro invasive species stuff (but less books, since a negative stance towards invasive species is the mainstream view within conservation).

I am also looking for books that deal with how culture or ideology shapes the way we see nature. Ecocriticism seems exactly what I was looking for but it is very post-modern (=unreadable).

I am now reading "Evolution's rainbow" it is a bit imbalanced and repetitive as I read another book by Joan Roughgarden, but it deals a bit with how ideology shapes how we see nature and I like how it shows that mating is more diverse as we think.

I find it interesting that within the field of evolution you have a group of collectivists and individualists (notable Richard Dawkins with his selfish gene). It seems the individualists sort of won. Though many agree that both competition and cooperation play a role in nature.

Also I am looking for critiques of the romanticism view of nature and rewilding.

Maybe even a complexity science view of nature conservation - if something like that even exists.
>>
>>2168039
Nature is an objective thing, therefore the scientific view would likely be the most accurate.

But on non-scientific viewpoints are primarily related to morality and meaning, which can be objective or subjective but aren't the focus of science.

Origin of species sort of explains it all, though it is a bit old and some things are vague because no genetic info was known back then. As for your competition and cooperation: cooperation is a way to beat the other(bigger) competition. Take army ants as an example : a single ant would not survive a single day yet together these "raiding parties" scourge the bottom of the rainforests they inhabit.

ITT: Post anything you personally find fascinating occurring in nature.

Accompany your image with a little factoid or why you find it interesting. It can be as unassuming as a cat or dog but try to post information that isn't widely known about your subject.

These little structures were found in South East Peru, no one knows what makes these cute little structures but scientists guess it might be some kind of lacewing.

My guess is it's usually people who are using dogs to fill the space in their lives that their own children would normally fill.

A lot of people now seem to have replaced children with pets, and subsequently end up treating these animals like children. Not very good for either party in my opinion.

Oi, /an/ my doggo has this thing on her stomach and I wanna know if any of y'all know what this is.

She's had it for God knows how long, I don't shower her often(sorry), she's gots lots of other bumps on her but this one looks the worst.
It has always looked like this too it doesn't seem to get "worse" (aside from it swelling every now and then)

There's usually black things poking out, but I just grab some tweezers and pull them out.

She's a German Sheperd mix(papers don't say what the [mix] part is) and she is 7-8 human yrs old
She's also pretty fat( or bloated idk]

My wife and I are in between places and her mother offered to hold my wife's dog for a month or two, while we got a more stable situation. After a few weeks my mother in law got a hair up her ass( shes bipolar, skitzo, and a bad person) and sold my wife's dog. My wife tried calling her and asking, but her mother was too busy screaming about aliens and shit. We called the police, but they were of no help and told us to go to small claims court. What do I do? Pic related, its a picture of the doggo

Why the fuck would you give a person with mental issues, what is essentially your property for an extended period of time? You could legitimately be labeled a fucking stupid inbred twat for such a thing.
>>
>>2168419
we're in between places, and couch surfing with a dog is a lot harder than couch surfing without a dog
>>
Break into her place, tie her up while your wife calls every single number in her call history, and try to find who has the dog. Offer double what the person paid for the dog if you need to. Serve court papers if they don't surrender the dog. Take mom to small claims court for trying to sell stolen merchendice or get her institutionalized. Use a doggie boarding house for future moves.

Hey guys, long story short I'm in my countries K9 unit as part of my national service obligations. After NS I'm gonna be returning to Australia for university and to settle down there.
A couple months ago I was assigned a lab, Pearl that was narcotics trained but because she can't operate outside a comfort zone and is super timid she was taken off ops. So she's up for adoption, and part of my job entails helping make her more suitable as a pet. When I had her under me at first she wouldn't even eat while I was around, and she'd hide at the back of her kennel and look out occasionally, and she'd shy away when I tried to pet her. But after a while, from taking her out, socialising her with other dogs and people as well as walking her and taking her for runs she's a lot more friendly, she'll run up to the gate of her kennel when I walk up to it, she'll jump up on me and lick my face and of course, she lets me pet her. I took her out a couple days ago for a walk and one of my friends went to pet her and she hid behind me, and I realised that we do share a pretty special bond. And of course, it sunk in how much I'm gonna miss her when I go back. After looking into how much it'd cost, the airfare and vet stuff would cost me around $5.5k Australian, because of their customs laws, and unfortunately that's a lot of money.
My question is that IF I were to start a crowd funding thing, like patreon or something how many of you would actually get on board with that kinda thing?
I'm super biased towards that sort of thing and I'm really on the fence about it but it's seeming like my only option to take Pearl back with me so I'm just gauging a couple opinions.
Pic related, it's her
