Thanks
Alright guys tell me your opinion about my current situation.
>have kid young
>now 40
>son is 18
>live in a rual area with a small house and a huge gated yard
>have 2 dogs and 2 cats
>dogs are both mini poodles and cats are small (don't know anything about cat breeds)
>never tried to train are dogs before
>son now wants a third dog and wants to start training it from day one
>wants it to be his dog and to be 100% responsible for it
>say it will help him become more mature
>wants a standard goldendoodle
>look online for prices
>their expensive as fuck
Should i get him this dog?
I'm not sure if we can handle another dog.
any advice?
There's no reason for him to get a brand new dog when you have two untrained already. Make him take responsibility for them and if you see an improvement in their behaviour consider getting a new one? Or make him get a job and pay for all pet expenses himself
>>2168314
One of are dogs is 13 and one is 4 so maybe he could train the four year old.
>train are dogs
>their expensive
>one of are dogs
Whew lad that's some ignorant spelling
Anyone know anything about this? I have 2 dogs, and only one of them is well-mannered enough to sleep in the bedroom at night. The other finds and eats dryer sheets, licks whatever body part of ours she can reach from the side of the bed, or starts trying to play rough with the 'good' dog that is trying to sleep. Nothing you can actually *punish* her for, just harmless mischief.
Will I be birthing a serial killer if I allow the 'good' one to sleep in the bedroom and not allow the other?
Don't get me wrong, the 'bad' one has her own strengths - she is the only one that can be left alone and not meltdown completely, and she won't bark like an asshole at every little noise not in line of sight, or start whining if she can't get to us.
Just ... strengths and weakness ...
TL;DR will a dog feel envy and act out if denied a privilege that another dog is given right in front of them?
Yep. Recent study proved that dogs do feel jealousy when other dogs are afforded privileges that they are not.
http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/25/living/study-dogs-jealousy/
Tire out your silly doggy more before bedtime.
>>2167588
In my experience with this exact tipic, denial of the privilege actually bad the not so good doggo be a good girl during bed time. So I just don't know for sure.
>>2167598
Thanks for the link. I read through it. It seems to suggest that at the very least, a dog's capacity for jealousy is the same as a 6 month old baby's. So I imagine the long-term effects of another dog being favored would be detrimental.
So I guess neither of them will get the bedroom. Poor pups. Oh well.
Thank you for answering.

one of these things is not like the other
Had this white looking shepherd pop out a week ago with 7 other normal black looking shepherds. The parents are pure bred German Shepherds. What is it?
I think it's a dog.
>>2168380
What the fuck are you even asking? You seem to have all the details already.
>>2168383
It's like having two black humans parents and out pops a white kid along with 7 black kids. What happened?
It's 2016 /an/, why haven't you bought a u-pet carrier so your cat can see the world
>tfw when you're cat loves going on adventures with you
>>2168215
I have a dog.
She walks next to me.
>>2168215
Yeah--I'm sure the cat will love being crammed into a container so you can have the novelty of a cat wherever you go
>>2168238
She loves the carrier, she never tries to jump out when I put her in there because she knows were gonna go on an adventure together
so I'm gonna apply for a job at a pet center nearby
it has qts and rescue kittens and dog school etc, as well as being just a general retail for pet merchandise and peripherals
what are some interesting things about generic pets that can make me look smart, common misconceptions and whatnot
i've owned cats and dogs and fish all my life but I feel I still need an edge on the competition, it's my destiny to work with these qts
ok let's just make it a fun fact thread
>FUN FACT
if you can't easily feel your cat's ribs, or see its waist from above, it's a fat shit and it's your fault you fat shit
FUN FACT
Dogs is a bastardization of the Ebonic word "Dawg," and they are named such because canines are the niggers of the animal kingdom
FUN FACT
Pomeranians will grow to the size of the tank you keep them in if you make sure they always have Timothy grass available so their stools are nice and watery. Also, there is a new hypo trans morph on the market which was bred in Australia, where the breed originated from.
Studying in the vet tech field myself. I've picked up a few fun facts that might give you an edge
>if you open up a cat, inside will be bricks and a minimum of 3 grocery bags
>wars have been fought over hamsters in ancient times due to their ability to magnetize minerals. That's how the pyramids were built
>snakes can eat over 11 billion crabs when the time is right
>touch your dog's tail. If you do this fast enough, your dog may reveal it's true form to you. Nobody has gotten a picture yet though
>combining 4 parakeets creates macaws. Do this wrong and you'll end up with a broken toaster instead
>feed your turtles enough tinfoil and they will eventually glow in the dark
>keeping at least 1 live shark under your bed at all times will stop those pesky lungfish from stealing your boxer briefs
>frogs actually turn inside-out to become salamanders
I guess that's some good general info, if you have any questions on specific stuff I can tell you what I know there
How do they move if they are non-living? I know that they don't walk (or do they?), but how do they squat to inject their DNA on bacteria if they are lifeless and thus can't do anything on their own?
Aliens bro I ain't have to explain shit.
Pretty much the same way things like parts of cells work, through complex micromachinery made up of proteins.
>>2167887
Hi /an/, what is this?
Its a flower bud on some sort of squash related plant.
at first sight I'd say aristolochia but I'm too tired to focus.
I posted earlier this week about Damon, who was having sudden pains. We got the results back.
Ass cancer.
Seriously though, a malignant tumor in his anal gland. I don't know if it has spread-I don't know that it matters. Even if it hasn't, ~2,000 for surgery is too high a price to pay for a 12 year old dog, even if I could come up with the money somehow.
Really, my question is what do I do now that he will never be better? How long do I wait before I put him down? Do I wait at all?
Damn ur ugly

I know. Good thing your dad has bad taste

Are bones okay for dogs, /an/?
I've tried searching and searching for a proper answer, but opinions seem split. I've heard "all bones are fine since splintering is rare", "never small bones but huge bones are safe", "only pork or beef bones and only raw", "never pork bones", and "never ever feed any bones whatsoever". It seems like raw bones might be a bit safer, since there's not much of a chance of splintering...? I got a natural pork femur bone specifically packaged as a dog chew, and gave it to this handsome guy, and he ADORED it but within 5 minutes he'd bitten off one of the chunky ends. I took it away from him since it was a little too small and I was worried he'd swallow and choke on it. The rest of the bone seems fine, still greasy and meaty and not splintered at all even where it broke off, but I'm worried about giving him the rest. Thoughts?
>>2167533
Just beef and pork.
Never chicken.
T bones are the hardest.
Use your brain to figure out if the bone will splinter.
>>2167536
do you generally want the hardest bones possible? I've heard people say soft bones are safer since they won't splinter and can be digested easily.
Not sure if this is the right board and i just wanted to share this somewhere
>hanging out in backyard at 12 ish
>hear dog scrambling in the back
>call her
>doesnt come
>get up to take a look
>she approaches me with a fucking possum in her mouth and drops it
>im freaking out and get the dog to stay the fuck away
>call dad
>by the time he comes possum is getting up very slowly(he was severly injured)
>he lets the dog have another go
>after that i poke it a few more times
>slight flinching
>get a pipe and smash the skull in
>burry it
This was a weird night.
>>2167397
Cool blog
>live in the country
>have dog
>find possum/coon/groundhog/fox carcass
It happens OP. You don't want to attract wildlife so make sure all trash and food is secure. Keep all shots up to date for your dog. Pay more attention early in morning and late at night, that is typically when something comes around.
So I was taking my dog outside before bed and on her way back she smacked her face on a wooden porch post running full speed. Luckily her eye is unharmed and it only scraped off skin under the eye. What can I do for her tonight before I take her to the vet tomorrow?
Porch post she hit
>>2167290
Calm her down as much as you can. Use hydrogen peroxide to sterilize the wound, and keep applying pressure before and after the sterilization to make sure the tissue and blood do not move more than they should.
>>2167290
I am also very sorry to hear that. And, Check em'.
How can I carpet my Aquarium? I really want to do this and I need help. Any tips/answers/advice would be highly appreciated
>What are the best plants/moss for this?(fast growing/hard to kill).
>Can I grow some without any additional products?
>do I grow them in my established tank or the"dry method"?
>If my tank is already established and I do grow the carpet with dry method outside the tank, is it safe to transfer to my tank once it grows a lot?
>does having a carpet change water levels?
>are there known shrimp/fish that will eat such plants?
also how exactly does hair grass spread? I get the other plants but this one seems to only grow up, how does it spread horizontally across the ground
>>2167281
>>What are the best plants/moss for this?(fast growing/hard to kill).
Growth rates are going to depend on your lighting, ferts, and CO2. Moss is going to be slower than other plants, but it's among the easiest if you tie it to wood.
>>Can I grow some without any additional products?
No ferts or CO2?
Dwarf sag, moss, marsilea minuta, glossostigma (maybe), chain sword (maybe), crypt parva (spreads super slow), anubias petite (also super slow)
>>do I grow them in my established tank or the"dry method"?
Dry start is to make it grow faster.
>>If my tank is already established and I do grow the carpet with dry method outside the tank, is it safe to transfer to my tank once it grows a lot?
I'd only suggest it if you're planning on buying a very small portion of plants.
You'll put the plants through some shock and may cause them to melt by transferring them, but they could grow back. Actually hunching over with tweezers and planting the stems is also an incredible bitch, so most people prefer to let the plants establish themselves and spread on their own.
>>does having a carpet change water levels?
No more than any other plant.
>>are there known shrimp/fish that will eat such plants?
Whatever fish/inverts eat other plants. Boisterous bottom-dwellers can be a problem while the tank is newly planted.
>>2167282
horizontal underground roots called "runners."
