The console was okay, the Master System had a much rougher start for example. But it was irrelevant because Atari was synonymous with failure and the NES already conquered America. Because of Nintendo's policy that required their system have unique games meant it was not ever the top choice for ports.

The $79 pricetag didn't really matter in America where budget consoles weren't a thing but dragged their feet from releasing it in Europe, until practically Sega Megadrive came out. Atari had no fucking idea what they were doing.

I haven't seriously played in years, probably like 5-6 years if not more.

No idea how things have changed with the patch(es?) over the years, but I'm from from current on D2. I do have fond memories of running an MF sorc to build a hammerdin back in the day though.

There's ackchyually two kinds of games in there; you've got the "grid-snap" platformers, with a more focused and logical set of game mechanics (Oddworld, Flashback, Blackthorne) and then there's the ones that people usually call "cinematic" platformers, with an usually looser control and flow and -often- specific per-scenario mechanics (Another World is the prime example).

Both rely on trial and error to a certain extent and some walk the line between the two formulas (Prince of Persia, Heart of Darkness), so I do understand why people bunch them together, though I really consider them two different types of games.

Prince of Persia should be on that list instead of Bermuda Syndrome

I guess I was not too creative in my weapon use or exploits and preferred the Crissaegrims. Allows me to move and deal damage, lots of damage, some critical. I think it was the joy of pressing the button and not coming to a dead stop to attack. I'd almost call that weapon almost game ruining to easy like Orlandu in Tactics. Maybe the shield rod or other combinations, or that blood sword with lots of blood grinding can deal more damage at once, I cannot swap off of the Crissaegrims because it is uniquely fun to wield.

I just finished the game for the 5th time about an hour ago and the alucard sword was really good enough.

A long time ago I used the Crissaegrim but that's fairly cheap, although the alucard shield + shield rod is probably maybe 20 times more cheap which I really don't understand. How could they just give you such an option so easily available to you in the game? You can obliterate anything in the game with that in a matter of seconds. It's anti-fun. Sure you can just not take that as an option but still, it almost seems like "the option for debugging purposes".
