I'm replaying through Sky now, and I'm content with it's difficulty level. If there was a hard mode, maybe there would be less items or higher level enemies, something simple like that. No need to drastically overhaul the game.

I've had a few wipes. I class them as failures. Some people like to grind up their box replacements and claw back a victory, but for me, I kind of feel like that gives me no failure condition.
As for my run in White 2, I've just finished getting everyone to level 48 for Drayden's Gym.

Got an Impish Gligar, which is awesome. It has Sand Veil rather than Hyper Cutter, but that makes little difference. It's really a shame the Razor Claw isn't obtainable until you get Watefall (because fuck doing the PWT or Subway) so hopefully the Eviolite will have to do.
Swoobat is finding less and less things to do, but honestly, while I have a few really good back ups now, I don't really have anything that would fit the team or be less redundant. I mean I have an Elgyem, but I don't see it being all that effective. I've also got a Jolly Altaria, but Dragon Claw and Earthquake are postgame so I'd be relying on shit like Aerial Ace/Fly/Bulldoze and I don't feel like doing that.
Drayden could be interesting - Gligar might do some work, Samurott has the ever unreliable Blizzard, and Scrafty will probably be most useful. We shall see later.

Reminder that all Flygon needs to be worth using over Garchomp is two minuscule adjustments:
>Switch it's offensive stats or buff it's Special Atk stat by 20 points(most likely scenario when GF modifies base stats)
>Allow it to receive Quiver Dance from the Bug pokemon from it's only egg group
No bullshit mega, no broken ability, just slight adjustments.

How come grass type starters have been consistently shit compared to fire and water?

Venusaur was the best of the Gen 1 starters till Charizard got two megas.

Torterra at least had a good design.

Why did pokemon just give up marketing after gen 4? 1998 was a fucking mass media craze where you could find almsot everything imaginable in some way shape or form pokemon related, Spoons, cereal, towels, stationary, etc.
But in Gen 4 and beyond its like all the good toy potential went into the shitter. If it isnt charizard, lucario or ash it gets squat.
We have tons of heroes and their pokemon but no villains to battle it out with.

>No Lusamine figure
>No Colress figure
>No gym leaders or elite four outside brock/misty
>No other trainers other then ash/red
>No any 700+ something pokemon as anything more than a PVC/vinyl 1 inch statue

Honestly, yeah. At least with the state of the current mainline games. I had a lot more fun posting here and seeing the new designs be revealed during reakseason than actually playing the games. Just a prime example why you should never hype yourself up for a game, since in like 50% of all cases it won't live up to your expectations.

I'm only interested in Pokemon as a tabletop roleplaying game. At least then I can have an interesting engaging experience instead of a hamfisted babby story with a garbage battle system from 1993.

I agree. Thinking about the Pokemon world and creating ideas with it is some of the most fun I've had with the series over the past years than I've ever had with the mainline games.
I think the only real time modern games made me feel anything other than stone face or confused disgust is getting to fight an actual legit non-event version of my favourite Pokemon in ORAS. Other than that? Nothing.
Maybe it's because I'm older? I don't remember thinking like this growing up; I used to get so involved with my team, the world, the online; Gen 4 was a magical time. I fondly remember the random wifi battles of Pokemon Battle Revolution, back when I'd put Hyper Beam on everything because I thought it was so cool.
I don't know what's happened, whether I've changed, the game's changed or something else, but it just feels... empty. Numbing.
