Sly 2 and 3. The hacking minigames are just shmups. Not very good ones, either, but better than shit like Bioshock's pipes or Fallout 3's circular lockpicking.
Shout-outs to Alpha Protocol for having the worst hacking minigame of all time.

It'll probably be a cut above your average musou. Not quite Hyrule Warriors level, but that's just because the Zelda franchise makes for more interesting movesets than sword/lance/axe/bow/tome/dragonstone.

The way they're putting in FE mechanics is interesting, or at least repainting some older mechanics with FE themes gives it a more genuine feel.

Not at all. Deadly Premonition is what Alan Wake wishes it could have achieved. Alan Wake is just a slog start to finish with constant, poor combat against the same enemy over and over again and homages to Lynch that aren't as well done as Deadly Premonition.

I am but part of me really doesn't want to invest too much hype into it like last time.

I would say it's the other way around. The gameplay is fine, for the most part. The things you mention are true, empty open worlds, lack of bosses, long helicopter rides. But the thing that's really bad is the plot.
But then, that was always a problem. Like, why did The Pain choose a water stage for his boss battle, literally the worst possible place for him to fight?
Yeah a PMC or VR simulator would be cool.

There are plenty of kindly people, but not every landlord is going to be one of them. Besides, Sojiro is a fucking barista who happens to be giving you a place to stay not a landlord by trade. People who rent places as a career tend to not be terribly kindly.

Do you enjoy super-fast, super mobile arena-shooting with good gunplay and some E.Y.E. and Painkiller-esque undertones, with huge variety of enemies, weapons, approaches, and can swallow down repetition of levels?

Do you enjoy spending 10+ minutes autisticaly micromanaging updates, statistic spreadsheets and arbitary rulesets in order to actually make sure your guns are running at full potential and not underpowered in between ever level?

Unless your answer is YES to BOTH, I'm afraid you probably won't love the game.
Because sadly, while this game can be really fun if you learn how to get the most of your gear management - if you don't, then you'll end up either very frustrated with the so called "bulletsponge" enemies and weapons feelling underpowered, or you'll be forced to play the game on lower difficulty which takes away a lot from the experience.

Personally, I loved it. But I am an actual minority. Most people will not even begin understanding how the gear upgrade work, because it's not straight-forward at all, and they will just get frustrated and leave.
And I can't even blame them.

Done my share of autistic management of gear in other games but not sure how that would play out in a shooter. Thank you for telling me about that, I knew it had a gear grind aspect but had no idea it was such a prominent part of the gameplay. Seems like a weird mix.

Your best bet is probably second hand (inb4 MUH WRITE CYCLES) because people forget how much it originally cost them and will either offload them cheaply or as part of the PSTV.

Other than that, that's pretty much it. There's no competition in the market because Sony's the only people who make them, so there's no incentive to drop the price. The prevalence of piracy now probably means there's more interest now than ever before.

I haven't done this, but jailbreak and get homebrew on your vita, and apparently you can use regular sd cards.
