Looking for a program that could help me plan a route for a week long trek through the Appalachian trail. Planning on beginning at Springer Mountain, GA, USA and ending around Johnson City, Tennessee, USA.
Also looking for hiking tips, tricks, stories, etc.
i personally found the smokeys and the section between Erwin Tennessee and Damascus the nicest parts.
you'll probably get better feedback for these questions on /out/

I appreciate you getting back to me and do you think I should just make a duplicate post on there?

I've been in JC for a year now, totally go if you can on that route. Great scenery and nature, bring good boots. If you have more specific questions ask.
Hello,
I am heading out on a Eurotrip on Monday with a couple of friends. We are going to Croatia (my country), Vienna, Prague, and Germany (my friend's country). We have figured out most of our plans already.
Any last minute advice? Safety suggestions?
Thank you!

condoms
>>1284129
Lol, me and my friend are already in relationships. I will tell our single friend though! Thank you!
>>1284111
dude what's your itinerary like? doing a similar trip minus Vienna in October. Really confused about where to visit in Croatia. The tentative plan is to arive in Dubrovnik from a Ferry from Southern Italy and then end up in Hungary 7 days later.
In Venice for a couple days.
Any suggestions on what to do / hidden gems you've found on your way?
how expensive would hawaii be? Not counting the obvious expensive plane ticket. Most of the activities I would be doing are outdoors stuffy, hiking, swimming etc.
Swimming is free bro.

Resident here.
Friggin expensive for food and lodging.
Milk is like 5$ a gallon, cereal is like 6$ a box for name brands, just to give you a baseline for food expenses. Most out doors stuff is free if you arent hiring a company. We have a severe lack of campgrounds as well, so that sucks for budge traveling. Also, unless you are on Oahu there is a shortage of nightlife.
Which island? Big island is probably the cheapest, but also kinda the least visitor oriented.
I'm in a huge dilemma here guys
Is traveling in an 7 person Dodge Grand Caravan with 5 other people for 3 weeks a horrible experience?
My friends wanted to visit the USA, Californa, driving in what amounts to 30 hours. We are from Denmark, I could not go because study but now that I got kicked out from the study I can go with them but other than horrible fear of flying is this not too much, I mean I'm already getting stressed and frustrated from my free time because I haven't done anything in like 2 months. I can imagine 3 weeks with 5 other people in a car with just a tent can be real tired after a few days.
I'm more of the type that wants to spend extra and then gets a better experience than having a shitty trip.
Around 949$ per person is the price going to be so it's really cheap.
They have been my friends since 3rd grade too so I think I'm going to miss much but at the same time, they're really lazy and often ends up sleeping when we get together instead of having a fun night outside.
Seriously no replys?
>>1284017
On any road trip you're gonna get a bit sick of your traveling companions. I think if you take time at a few places to spend a day on your own or in pairs or something you'll find that that eases the stress. I doubt that it'll be a horrible experience, but you're going to have to work to ensure that
>>1284117
Yeah and I think it is going to be hard because most of my friends are really lazy, it's like they're offline, like talking to them is like sending chat messages to a person who barely replies.
But a friend that is really lazy says he got more energy when he was in USA, Mostly it's just an excuse, a country's climate can't change a person from being a lazy boring person to a cheerful person.
Currently i'm Serbia with some friends for an interrail and we are planning to go on the seaside in Bulgaria
Any suggestions on where to go?
If it possible near varna or easily reachable by bus and/or train
P.s.: sorry for the bad English btw
Go to Vama Veche. It's a places where hippies used to go to party and it still has a cool and authentic vibe there. Easily the best town by the black sea. Weekdays are quiet but on weekends it's packed. The beach there is good aswell.
>>1283991
I support this, even if Vama Veche is in Rumania and not in Bulgaria. Otherwise I'd say the more beatiful beaches are more towards the south (around Sinemoretz), while the central coast is more touristy (especially the Gold and Sun Beach which I'd advise you to avoid)
Looking to visit Dubai (have a friend who lives there)
I'm an American. What should I know? Dos and don'ts?
(I've been to Europe and Mexico)
Don't: Being American.
Culture clash will happen as you folks are kinda unable to adopt even in a basic way...
>>1283998
My friend that lives there is from Germany but claims to be American (spent a quarter of his life here)
He doesn't have a problem
1. being any from LGBT gets you death sentence.
2. No sex allowed unless you're married.
3. Don't come during summer unless you want to face 49+ degrees (Celsius) of blazing heat
4. No kissing in public and at all times in public 75% if your body should be covered
Are there any good unli-data simcards for people travelling to Europe?
Places I'm hitting are Frankfurt-Munich-Budapest-Prague-Rothenberg, so an all Eu simcard is ideal.
>>1283933
Eu has eliminated roaming charges as of this year so technically any Sim you get should be an all-EU sim.
>>1283938
A bunch of companies got exceptions to that rule, though, and they can charge up to 7.70 EUR per GB for mobile data. It's much better than it was, but it's worth checking what different carriers are offering. Some only offer "roam like at home" prices on long-term contracts not pre-paid.
Guys I've travelled to Seattle from Australia for TI7 and have 10 days afterwards unplanned before the flight home. Can't decide whether to go east to Yellowstone or south through Oregon and Cali, or something else entirely. Plz help. I've got 1.5-2k kangaroo dollars to work with. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
>>1283928
Oregon and Cali are much better, $150-$200 aud/day is twice as much as you need desu.

Before you leave the state, visit the Olympic Peninsula.
Go on a hike in the forest there.
The peninsula has the only rainforest in the continental united states.
At the end of August, I'm moving to Armenia and have a few questions about very practical initiatives I need to take before or ASAP after I land.
1) Banking - how do you bank abroad long term?
I will keep my US bank account. The paycheck from my company back home will continue to direct deposit into that checking account. However, I also want to open a local account either with HSBC Armenia or Ameriabank.
HSBC is a global brand, so I feel I'd have a more standard relationship with them, but they have fees for opening a personal account and a monthly fee as well. The monthly fee is 0.62 cents in USD, so not that big a deal. I am mostly using this account for tuition payments, and the country uses a lot of cash so cash withdrawals will be important.
2) Credit - will my VISA suffice?
It has no foreign transaction fees. I assume if I tell them I'm remaining overseas permanently the experience won't be any different than if I told them to place a travel note on my VISA for 1 month.
3) Finding a long-term, furnished rental
I know a lot of expats on here get housing through their schools if they are a teacher or student. I could ask my university for guidance, but I have no intention of staying in a dorm and rather have my own apartment. Did you use any websites to find housing beforehand? Stay in an Airbnb for a few weeks while looking locally? Use native nation websites, which in Armenia are a bit outdated functionally, to say the least.
I think that's it. If anyone has other advice I'm happy to read it. I don't know anyone where I'm moving, and don't know the local language beyond a few phrases, so besides my university, I'll be very much on my own.
>>1283892
>besides my university, I'll be very much on my own
If your university regularly accepts foreign students they will have an international office that will help you with all this stuff.
Good luck OP
I would love to move to the Caucasus but I feel it would be hard to find a job in there.
I wish you the best
>>1283958
You are correct. There is an international office available. I guess I just don't want to call on them for every little question I have. And the advice of people who have moved overseas themselves can be different or more informative. But thanks.
>>1284075
Thank you! My job can be done remotely, and I spent the past two years saving. That's how I'm affording the move, personally.
>>1283886
I'm in the same boat as you, OP. Travel to destinations that interest you, whether it be the history of the area, or the landscapes, or the culture, or historic landmarks. Just do your own thing, travel for yourself. Go on an extended excursion and end up wherever the wind takes you. It's easy once you start.
>>1284089
>Travel to destinations that interest you whether it be the history of the area, or the landscapes, or the culture, or historic landmarks.
History is something i can read about in a book. Anything less than experiencing something like the arab spring or annexation of crimea first-hand doesnt really interest me.
>experience the history and culture of a foreign nation
what does that even mean? that never really made sense to me, nor did
>experience the true/native/[insert adj] nation x
anyway, i'm not interested in that kind of kind of tourism.
to be honest, i'm not sure i'm interested in tourism at all. My best experiences were traveling for study, or most recently for work.
Maybe I can turn traveling into enjoyable work, but I don't know how I can turn traveling into enjoyable for its own sake.
Going to Prague next week. My question - is there anything on the outskirts of the city worth seeing? Like some natural shit, not urban.
Food in barcelona. I don't want to get ripped off.
Will traveling to Russia teach me how to be a man? I have no working skills besides being able to play Nick Drake songs and I'm halfway done with a bio degree
as someone who can play nick drake songs only moderately well and dropped out of college youre doing better than me. i think travelling almost anywhere, getting outside your comfort zone, and learning to navigate and live in a foreign place is general will help you to become a man, anon. then again we're both sitting here posting on 4chan

haha literally me
I'll be in Athens for a couple weeks soon. Dont really have any plans.
I'll probably be staying in hostels, but I dont mind splurging a little bit here and there if it's worth it. Any recommendations on where I should go, what I should do? It's my first time in Greece.
Beware of the Albanians
Was in Greece almost a year ago to the day.
Are you planning on staying put in Athens?
Its kind of a dump desu. My friend has family there so we had a flat to stay in for the 2 weeks in southern suburb area of Athens. I recommend checking out the tourist trap areas such as the Acropolis, and city for a day or 2. The beaches in Athens are just meh.
If you can, you should venture up to Thessaloniki (lots of history there too) and then over to Chalkidiki (if you want beautiful beaches). Chalkidiki was absolutely amazing in my experience.
Enjoy your trip!
