When a Wizard casts a spell upon enemies, do they;
>Cast a powerful magical attack that does direct or AoE damage?
or
>Use curses that disrupt, weaken, or kill enemies in more indirect ways
Which is better?
Depends a lot on when and the party.
Sometimes just blowing shit up just to kill everything and move fast is needed, and other times, seeing that the battle will drag on, you need to play the long game.
>>53754601
Not based on the situation, I mean what's best for the feeling of the setting and general magic system?
>>53754570
I feel that you should go for more curses and trickery in a more folklore/ fairytale inspired game while you should go for a more fireballs and magic missiles in a more action packed, video gamey game.
Why do some many terrible fantasy tabletop artists put pauldrons on every character?
Is tackling a huge part of combat in D&D and similar games?
Because they look cool and visually distinctive. Practicality is almost entirely irrelevant.
>>53754331
It gets a lot harder to lift a weapon or a shield when your deltoid's severed.
>>53754331
Not really. I've only played a handful of systems where it was mechanically meaningful to tackle, sweep, or otherwise disorient your opponent, and D&D certainly isn't one of them.
Chess General: Albin Countergambit Edition. Famous/ Favorite games edition. Discuss openings, theories, pro discussion, etc
e4 vs d4: The Great Debate
>>53754259
I love seeing the Albin countergambit. I used to train with a GM (Gennadi Sagalchik) who, on occasion used to throw the Albin against d4 players like myself.
I guarantee it, you will not play it as well as he does. I might not have seen all the tricks, but I'm comparatively well booked on this variation, especially one that often gets seen for surprise value.
Frank Marshall had a boner for the ACG but nobody has seriously used it since WWI.
/tg/ what is your opinion on retconning?
What I mean by that is - the changing of past actions because someone forgot or wasn't aware of an ability they had in game.
Is it acceptable for either players or DMs, should we ignore the feasibility and linearity of the world to by the rules? After all it's just a game system not real life. Is there a time limit on when it is acceptable?
To give some combat examples.
>Ranger shoots 2 shots dealing 20 damage
>This leaves the enemy mage on 5hp
>Enemy mage casts cone of cold on his turn doing X amount of damage
>A turn later the ranger pipes up "actually I have favoured enemy humanoids, so I would have done an 8 extra damage on my round so that CoC never happened"
or
>Spirit guardians
>Make the saving throw
>Dice hits the table its a fail
>"Oh wait I forgot I have counterspell, obviously I would have counterspelled to not take that damage"
or less combat
>Players confront a corrupt official
>He had an escape plan to jump out the window onto the secret carriage he had prepared
>DM finishes describing the event
>"I shot him before he left, didn't you hear me say that?"
>>53754035
For the combat, no retcon because you forgot a feature you have. You will remember the next time. And I will encourage you to mark it down in evidence, and I will remind you that you have it.
For the narrative, it's different. If I didn't hear a player doing something, it's my fault, not his. So the retcon is deserved.
If he wanted to do something but didn't because I talked too much, he didn't succeed at interrupting me, he wanted to talk but other talked before him, etc, for all this type of shenanigans, I can do a retcon.
For story event I'm lenient if you say something while this is hapenning and the retcon is just seconds or one/two minutes away.
When the scene has passed, it's generally over.
>>53754161
>For the combat, no retcon because you forgot a feature you have. You will remember the next time. And I will encourage you to mark it down in evidence, and I will remind you that you have it.
What if its the DM making the mistake?
>>53754232
Then we do a retcon.
If your players can't trust you because when you fuck up you don't fix it, you should put down the GM hat. Not retconing a mistake you made will feel unfair and sloppy.
I know this probably gets asked a lot, but what systems would be great for a Persona-esque game? Local mysteries suddenly being interdimensional/wacky psychological conspiracies and the only ones who can stop it is goofy teenagers and their personas is my jam. Mutants & Masterminds? Of Dreams and Magic?
It doesn't have to be EXACTLY like it (I don't expect any game to actually have social links as a tabletop), but something close enough in spirit would be pretty rad.Haru is worst girl
>>53753890
You want MaOCT. The ORE general seems to be dead today. Got archived few posts in. They have WIP pdf conversion, but the system can be used for Persona out of the box.
>>53730295
>>53753890
I would suggest taking a look at either Night Wizard or Kamigakari.

Hey, I'm the guy working on the mod along with some other regulars from /ore/. Hopefully we'll have a new thread up tomorrow but if not I'll be able to post about the plans for this project if this thread is around in the morning.

The trend in thread titles has been namefags. Strike, Heavens, and Crux were the last three. Next one can be Elona Forever or something.

I don't need the handjob. I just wanted to know that he was okay.

Do you ever restrict race options in your games? How about classes? How about race/class combinations?

Another thing- The prethoryn are plotting something, and we are keeping our stance. As always, any ship will be destroyed, trying to cross. We are searching for these secret routes, and will destroy any ship trying to pass.

How would you neck breads feel about a Command and Conquer table top game?
Which game from the series would you like most?
I like Tiberian Sun the best myself. It's got the best feel and the best soundtrack. You could probably manage it fine with Dark Heresy or something.
>>53750082
Wouldn't be too hard to run, just make goofy 90s level villain plans and run it like Renegade.

I've seen the neck bear, but not the neck bread. Drawfags assemble!
Do you specify the temperature in the current area in your campaigns?
>>53749772
Yes.
>>53749905
Good to know.
>>53749772
Sometimes. If it's important to the atmosphere, absolutely.

What do hope to hear from the announcements this week?
Sheldon Memery found to be centuries old lich feeding off spite; removed from Rules Committee.
>needed a shitty casual deck
>didnt want to spend more than 50$ on one
>find out spider is super cheap
>allready own some cards
anything im missing that I NEED?https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/670584#paper
What does Ruric Thar need? I might go with the "fuck you no matter what" approach.
I stuck Harsh Mentor in there somewhere. I think I might put in Zo-Zu.
8th Edition Guard and T3 humanity thread
Thinking about putting some Death Cult Assassins in my Guard army. 9 in a Rhino with a Priest. Maybe roll up with some other units to assault first to eat the Overwatch or use an Inquisitor to cast Terrify.
http://www.3plusplus.net/2017/06/astra-militarum-tank-weapons-40k-8th-ed/
Remember, only Russes that matter now are LRBT, Punisher and Demolisher. Others can go fuck themselves. Get lascannons in front. Sponsons work pretty well now too, since vehicle facing is gone, so take meltas or plasma.
Get a Pask in a Punisher and make him order around two tank commanders in LRBT and Demolisher and you're golden. Also, get Hellhounds.
Artillery is amazing now. Two Manticores and two Basilisks with a Master of Ordnance will melt both heavy and light targets en masse.
>>53747721
Crusaders are also dope. 3+ invuln for super cheap, it's easier to get into assault, AND power swords are more versatile.
>>53748303
They are pretty dope. 2 attacks isn't much but I just noticed they have acts of faith and shield of faith. Kind of weird but also interesting. I gotta find some good crusader models. Same with death cults. I have 2 of each of the GW models but I don't want to buy a full squad of each.
We're looking for a GM for a Pathfinder or D&D game. We've got a discord going of 4 players who would be interested in about an hour or so. After I get a few replies, I'll post an invite link.
>>53747419
I hope you step on a d4
>>53747419
1. Are you actually paying for this service? Or do you expect someone to take time out of their day to run a game for people he doesn't even know for free?
2. Do you honestly expect a DM to put together an entire campaign in an hour?
3. Not even gonna tell us what kind of characters everyone is playing or what kind of game you're looking for? Gritty and serious? Lighthearted and noblebright? High-Magic? Low-Magic?
This has to be bait, and I know I just responded to it, but fuck damn.
