The 1d4chan consensual reality stuff really doesn't seem to gel with the Outer Black stuff that shows up on Wikipedia and in official descriptions. All I know is the players are agents of a secret faction rooting out cultists(?)
>>55318771
It's been a while since i last looked at Esoterrorists, but if i recall correctly, the basics are actually fairly simple, someone please correct me if i got some stuff wrong.
So you got our world, and the Outer Dark, and between the two you have "The membrane".
Our world operates under laws of physics and is an onjective world, Outer Dark is the opposite where pretty much the whole reality is subjective, these two worlds cross over ever so slightly, but are mostly kept separate by the membrane.
By weakening the membrane the bad guys (the actual Esoterrorists) can pull stuff through the membrane from the Outer Dark to our world, and that Outer Dark entity then takes an actual physical form which may be influenced by the people who summoned it, or perhaps some other general fears of the people in that region.
The weaker the membrane gets, even crazier shit can be pulled through.
The various Esoterrorist groups have different motivations, and some creatures can be pulled through unintentionally.
The player investigators work for this shadowy organization known as Ordo Veritatis, which is a sort of Delta Green on steroids, however the investigators are usually given very little information on he Ordo.
Also, it's worth noting that all the information we have on the Outer Dark, the Membrane and the Outer Dark Entities are pretty much based on information that the Ordo has collected, and very little is actually set in stone.
If you have any other questions i'll try to answer as best i can.
Are the Ordo Veritatis operatives full-time operatives or do they have a "day job" like Delta Green agents? Does the OV has its own infrastructure (bases, labs, safe houses, vehicles, firearms, databases...) or do the operative have to "borrow" the equipment they need from other organizations? Is the OV active around the world or only in certain areas?
>>55320006
>Are the Ordo Veritatis operatives full-time operatives or do they have a "day job"
Yeah they got day jobs and normal lives. OV investigators also tend to have more mundane careers than their Delta Green counterparts.
>Does the OV has its own infrastructure
Yes, this is what i implied at with DG on steroids. However, players rarely have access to most of these, they can request information, equipment or access to safehouses but they can't just walk to a OV base, partly cause they would have no idea where such a facility would be.
OV is pretty much divided into sort of core infrastructure and field cells, and they try to keep them mostly separate to avoid any Outer Dark infiltration.
In the field they have 2 types of cells; The investigators and secondly the Special Suppression Forces, which are pretty much anti-esoterrorists/Outer Dark entity Swat Teams
>do the operative have to "borrow" the equipment they need from other organizations?
Weapons and other restricted material is often given to the investigators by their handlers (always called Mr. Verity) if deemed neccessary, simply because most investigators won't normally have access to such items, due to their often otherwise mundane lives and careers.
>Is the OV active around the world or only in certain areas
Another part where OV is DG on steroids, as they seem to be worldwide.
Published adventures take place in US and Europe, i think one takes place in south east asia.

Is the decline in high fantasy linked with the decline of metal?
In the 70s and 80s there is a direct link between tabletop games and metal. Now that metal is completely outside of the mainstream music taste are we seeing it's influence on fantasy decline?
>>55316358
I blame LoTR, Harry potter and game of thrones. non of them are very over the top spiky bits and murder, but are basically the biggest influences in fantasy in the last decade. before that you had stuff like doom and quake that were taking bits from fantasy ad dding it to shooters. then shooters moved away to realistic modern stuff, and the cross pollination of stuff like 40k ripping of doom slowed down.
add in colobine and the west memphise three getting heavy metal and peganisum a real bad rap, things kinda split hard. that one lady that replaced gygax really hated all of the pagan stuff. no way she was into heavy metal.
besides, when metal bands stopped putting dragons on the album cover, you knew that they were stopped getting influenced themselves by fantasy imagery.

what does /tg/ thinks of fallen london/sunless sea/ sunless skies? i really wanted to run a campaign for it but i don't know how it will work with 3-5 players.

An excellent cosmic horror story that retains its own identity even within the context of the genre. What kind of game are you thinking of running? Number of players shouldn't really be a concern I don't think. Can I play as a rat post office worker?
>>55316343
>I don't know how it will work with 3-5 players.
It won't. Having two players with this setting is already problematic, anything above makes it close to umpossible, unless you want to just use the setting as a basic backdrop and do dungeon crawl.
Which I doubt is your goal.
>>55316462
i just don't know, the series have been designed for 1 player hence my question. i dont want to go murder hobo as well

I've been looking forward making a campaign inspired by those animes/series where people tries to fuck each other with plans thought absurdly ahead of time (Like Sherlock or Death Note) and everyone is like "That's right Light Turner ! I predicted that you would predict just what I would predict ! " kind of bullshit.
What would be a good system for that? Now obviously there won't be many physical battle so there's no point in Gurps/Strike shilling here.

Are you open to homebrewing a system?

What would happen if the 40k universe entered the 40k universe?
>>55315591
Actually an interesting question.
Of all the factions to get doubled, I feel like Necrons would come out most strongly ahead, followed by the Eldar. The Imperium wouldn't know what to do with double its population, Kayoss would probably get weaker because of the guaranteed infighting, Tau still wouldn't matter even if pentupled up, and Nids and Orks both fall into the eternal status quo camp.
Eldar being doubled means a big win against Kayoss for everyone, flat out. Necrons, however, present a problem of exponential threatening-ness. Double the Crons and shit will get real wacky, real fast.
>>55315591
The Tyranids would've enveloped the galaxy.
Orks would be everywhere.
Eldar webways would crossover into multiple dimensions.
The Imperium would colonise most of the webway, as meatshields.
Chaos would exist as Gork and Mork vs The Great Devourer. Emprah isn't getting his hands dirty this time.
Necrons and the C'Tan get looted.

OP= A man with excellent taste
So thread. Are you up for a bit of cooperative creation? Because I've got a bunch of OC power slots to fill out in an upcoming jump, few limits on the sorts of powers and a hankering to encourage some creativity. If you want a chance to maybe get a power of your own design in, read on.
I'm in the process of writing up a short jump for a series called Petals of Reincarnation. In this series, there are guys called Reincarnators who call back to an ancestor to gain a Talent/Power from them. These are generally based on their achievements and can get pretty kooky. By taking on those powers, you often get visual or even mental changes (Don't worry about this stuff, the jump will address it and provide ways around it). That said, isaac Newton becoming a man with an apple for a head is pretty funny.
Isaac Newton can create apples that he controls the gravity around in a 4 metre diameter, with enough strength to warp space or turn people to paste in an instant, even supernaturall tough people. Schrodinger can choose any possible path for his life to take, such as choosing for a single shot he makes to kill all his foes, so long as that possible path is, well, possible. Simo Hayha (Yeah, he gotta be in there) gets a snow based Reality Marble and crazy sniper skills.
So we got some pretty sweet stuff here. The Reincarnators are all based on actual historical figures, no purely mythical folk here, though historical/myth mixes work just fine. The powers can be pretty varied and even pretty strong. In the untranslated parts (Holy fuck why does the translation cut off just as we get to see a dozen more foes introduced) they can wipe out cities or mountains, with things like orbital satellite astronaut lasers or what has to be Nikola Tesla firing giant lightning bolts. Even on the hax side, guys like Schrodinger above are crazy.
