Party Time!
You survived the run with most of your limbs, none of your chummers died, and you even flipped a few 'misplaced goods' for some sweet cash. Now it's time to get out of the flat and celebrate. What's your town, and how do you paint it red?

That never happens. It's just passing out and then a cut to the next mission.

I don't understand why people do this. You might as well be playing a board game at that point.

the run is the party brother
why else would I bring party favors?
So, I am poking around trying to create, if not a setting, at least a bare bones set of assumptions about how society is structured before kicking off a D&D game. One thing I'm thinking about at the moment is how there's essentially three different religious strains among player classes.
Obviously, you've got clerics and the like worshiping gods. I think I have an idea for how that'd work; I mean, a god is like a totem or a patron saint. And you've got druids; still trying to figure out how to work with the nature angle, but I kind of want to treat them as the animist substrata under the major divinities. In places like Thailand or India, aside from your mainline Buddhist or Hindu beliefs, you've got these village-level deity figures and spirit beliefs and stuff. Something like that.
What I don't get is monks. Where do they come into all this? I mean, the inspirations for them are obviously more Taoist than anything, but what's the spiritual significance of what they do and what are the societal implications? Like, in RL Europe monks were dedicated to the Christian deity, and in Buddhism they're supposed to be seeking enlightenment, but the former's more the cleric role and taking the latter straight out means borrowing a lot of Buddhist doctrinal assumptions that I'm not sure I'm ready to dive into.
What are your thoughts? How do the societies of your settings work with monks?
Players don't care about that shit. Worry about making a fun and engaging game, rather than spending all your time figuring out how "society is structured". Like, what are you even doing man? Fuck.
>>55248140
Wizards learn to bend the world. Clerics borrow power from god. Monks bring out their own, internal power. It's not from anything or over anything but themselves. The problem is it's almost never represented well mechanically.
>>55248140
Very, very few people want to be a monk because they crave a character that attains spiritual oneness. 99% of players pick monks want to punch things in the face and the remaining 1% are cancer anyways that are likely to abandon the group because it's in character.
Remove the Law requirement, and just have Monks as basically a martial counterpart to the Wizard, thematically. Wizards seek to push the art of magic to new heights, Monks seek to push the human/dwarf/goblin body to new heights. Wizards create fireballs and planar gates, Monks run up walls and punch dragons so hard they explode. Have Monks inhabit more academic settings where they actually learn shit, then put it into practice. Making a dragon explode is only like, 50% how hard you punch the dragon. 25% is figuring out how a dragon explodes, and 25 is doing that while punching it. Then there is figuring out how to not explode yourself from the forces making the dragon explode.
Being a monk is partly being able to run this stuff as fast, if not faster than a Wizard needs to be able to recall how to start casting his Fireball.
People who actually seek spiritual oneness can put that in the religion spot of their character sheet.

Warmahordes thread
>I don't have the copypasta edition
I'm looking for some good battle reports, but I have a hard time watching the ones where it's all filmed from a fixed point, the video is sped up, and the players commentate on what's happening over it. I have some attention issues and it's really tough to follow.
House of Dice is one that I really like. They walk you through everything that's going on, remind you of all effects that are in play, etc. Here's an example:

Guerrilla Miniatures Games is another good one, not as good as the above but still decent.

Painting a bastilodon as close to the box art as possible because I have no imagination.
How do I get the wavy-fire effect at the tips of the armor plates? Is it some kind of wash, or done freehand?

Bump
Yo /tg/.
Whaday'all think about psionics?
Whatever they want me to.
I like it especially in 4e where it changed some of the ways the game was played without needing new whole books to explain it or it stinky being magic-lite.
>>55246586
For some reason, a large part of /tg/ has a massive hateboner for psionics, at least in Pathfinder, even though psionics are perfectly fine.
How does /tg/ feel about politics and racism in a campaign when not done to a /pol/ish level?
pic very unrelated
>>55246471
In a campaign, politics and racism should do two things. The first is to divorce them from current real world politics and racism. The players and the GM are there to have fun, not a political debate. Don't make people thinly veiled expy's of existing political figures, don't make a minority a 1:1 copy of an existing one, and if you are going to use real figures (like in a historical game) use them fucking carefully. It's really easy to go from "tasteful and dramatically appropriate" to "complete shithouse" when it comes to things like that.
The second is to then only have them if they're going to be something important to the plot/tone/setting. Having racism or political clusterfuckery for the sake of having it is just a drag on the campaign. The racism and political shit have to serve a purpose within the game, otherwise they're just there to cause argument. If you have elves be discriminated against by humans or whatever, make that an important factor in the actual plot that's developing, instead of just an extraneous detail that people might bitch over.
>>55246471
taking it to /pol/ish extremes is half the fun.
>>55246645
We're probably safe with a /thread right here
But since fags are gonna shitpost, let's turn this thread into an art dump of pretty girls with big cats.
Most RPGs have at least a page of common items with a value of jack all. Bedrolls, flint and steel, tunic, meals, who gives a shit, they all cost a fraction of a fraction of what your first quest gives you.
I assume someone's gotta get off on tracking that shit, otherwise they wouldn't be there, but seriously who gives a rat's ass and why aren't there more "basic cost of living" summary options?
>>55246361
basic cost of living summary is in the DMG.
I do get off on tracking that shit.
Not OP, but somewhat related question:
To what extent do people track things, assuming they enjoy tracking things, in gameplay or worldbuilding?
I like how dungeon world is "Backpack", you pull whatever you need out of it.

Would you watch a show that portrays a gaming group playing a roleplaying game, but is either completely or mostly scripted?
What would it need for you to be interested?
>>55246183
So, what, like "The Gamers" or its sequel? Because I've watched those. Maybe you should watch them, too.
>>55246223
I was actually thinking something almost educational, rather than just a straight parody.
Something that would show an ideal group in action, complete with well-timed jokes, clever combat tricks, and emotional roleplaying.
I was actually thinking about doing a Critical Role type show with some actor friends of mine, except even faker than Critical Role. Might even start a kickstarter/patreon if the pilot is succesful.
Are there any tabletop games that allow you to play a heteromorphic race, rather than limiting you to humans and demi-humans, without having to homebrew it? I'm exhausted with the usual, boring options.
What monsters have you played, and how did you stat them, if you had to brew it yourself?

I murdered a woman, bottled her soul, and took her daughter as a slave. I cut the girl open and took two ribs, with which she would would grip her steel. I'd use the mother to possess other children. Mine, they would commit murder and perform as prostitutes beside the daughter. When I grew bored of those trinkets, I'd murder them, slowly, over days, and make the mother share their pain. Each I dined together with her daughter and my pigs. From each I took a tooth I'd carved the image their faces and their names, a gift of pearls to our daughter.
