I know the elegan/tg/entlemen of this board like to discuss the their recommendation for favorite game in production or crowd sourced success, but what about some duds?

Like what comes to mind when I say "dead on arrival dumpster fire". I wanna see some real garbage. Absolutely shit games that couldn't raise a dime to save it's developer's life.

Can we get a list going of some real dredge going? For science.

Honestly, if you need kikstarter to get your project off the ground, it didn't deserve to exist in the first place. Lazy entitled hipster fucks think they have a right to money because they had an idea and want to pay other people to make it for them. No, you worthless fucking kike, you can produce something of value and then maybe I'll consider giving you my money (which was earned through actual labor, not sitting in a shared apartment smoking weed or at a coffee shop on my apple craptop). Fucking make something. I've made three fucking games that I am working on finalizing. Whereas the pieces of shit want hard cash for vague promises, won't even give shit about the mechanics half the time because of "muh copyright". If you really cared about making a good game, an not just money, you'd distribute your game for free. At least if it's and RPG. By charging money you're saying "this is a profit motivated venture and my game is a piece of shit". Trust me, if it's good, you'll get something from PWYW. Otherwise you're just being a slimy fuckin jew.

If you're on 4chan long enough, it becomes difficult to introduce an idea without greentext, because greentext allows you to use a fragmented phrase instead of setting up a proper statement.

Me and my pals are gunna start a D&D campaign soon. None of us have ever played and they all decided I'd be the best candidate to be GM. Any tips for me?

Make the first quest sooooo simple.
Maybe little girl is crying because her kitty went into THE SCARY WOODS... add in a few orcs,a misunderstood cat aficionado.
You all get to learn rolling dice,have a chuckle and make an in game friend.
Maybe buy a module(if they are still called that) after your players get used to this game.

Start with this.

Make sure everyone brings their own dice and pencils. Photocopy blank character sheets, at least a dozen.

GM should re-read the adventure the day before.
Prepare some graph paper for impromptu maps.

Prep and understand the monster stats, including special attacks, auras, powers, spells, etc.

Make sure each player has read the sections about their own character's skills, powers, spells, etc. It's not the GM's job to explain all that to them in-game.

>My players don't really care for the complex fantasy names characters usually have. Something abnormal is fine, but names like Zhuistmor Grandseek are hard for them to remember.
What's an easy way to name NPCs?

>The sessions we have last a very long time, we are about to finish Lost Mine of Phandelver (2 players) but it's taken about 12(?) four to seven hour sessions to get to the end.
How long is one D&D game supposed to last in game? (ie one session = one week in game)

Make a big list of names beforehand. Use simple, real life names that sound vaguely fantasy-ish. Alliteration also helps if you want players to remember a certain somebody. Felix Farcatcher. Adrian Aleron. Butch Bailey.

However long it needs to. There's no set time scale for this sort of thing. A session can be one in-game hour, or it can be a month long stretch of travelling. You just have to eyeball it.

Stakes. If they don't get the rare mushrooms at the bottom of the dungeon within a week, the king will die from his illness. Another adventuring party is itching to finish the dungeon first and claim the glory/loot. The NPC's buddies are mustering their forces and enacting their plans while the players are busy interrogating him. If there's nothing at stake, there's not a whole lot you can do to stop them from just up and leaving.

Cant help you much with names. Thats something I always have a hard time with.

A single session doesnt necessarily have to represent a specific amount of time in game. A session might be able to cover months or only a few minutes in game depending on whats going on. A big clusterfuck combat might take an entire session, or a session might be spent working out important details of whats going on during down time (shopping, crafting, individual characters dealing with stuff of their own, etc) and might cover a particularly large amount of time.

If they think they are done with the dungeon, and want to go back to town, that's fine. Players can be unpredictable beasts, and you shouldn't railroad them. If they miss out on something important, it might come back and bite them in the ass. Another person they need to deal with might escape, and it could lead to further adventures. Any treasure and good stuff might be removed by the other beings in the dungeon. Actions have consequences. If you are doing lost mine of phandelver, have the drow at the end abandon the place and off the dwarf, and leave a bunch of hobgoblin reinforcements. Its not a video game where NPCs will sit there and wait to be slaughtered. If they notice an incursion, they will adjust their plans to account for what they noticed of the incursion.

I make my players write down the name of every person, place, organization, house etc as it's the only way they remember them. I mean they should be doing it anyway but after a few sessions of them all forgetting where they were supposed to go or who they were meant to talk to it got old fast.

Do you build your campaigns or plots around a theme?

I've been wondering whether other people find it adds cohesion to a story, or if that much forethought is usually worth it in the grand scheme of grand schemes.

My campaign theme revolves around ancient heroes and villains who have sought the secrets of Immortality, and roughly a score of them have achieved it. Over the long centuries, the lines between the wicked and the benevolent have blurred. The Heroic Age that they sprung from has been nearly forgotten, and been replaced by a Grey Age of murky morality, where villains prosper and heroes tend to die young.

The adventuring party is part of a new generation of young heroes, their destinies forever changed by a cosmic confluence, who exist to tear down the old stagnation and bring about a new heroic age.

I build around interesting situations.
Coincidentally this may include something that can be read as a theme or I may apply one retroactively if convenient.

But the freedom that is maybe *the* inherent perk of roleplaying also brings freedom from structured arcs with it. So I embrace simulationism and aesthetic but ultimately unfocused compositions. For the illusion to work best I try to let the world stand as just itself, if you catch my drift.

Admech obviously can't match Conscripts by the score and their requisite support troops, but they're pretty good as medium troops go, have good support and may be able to augment their Knights a tad in addition to or possibly with their Forge World buffs. Also, lots of opportunity for cool fluff and conversion work with Sacristans and Stataraga Magi. (Knight House to Admech liasons, including people like pic related.).

You could take some Sniper Rangers to put holes in enemy buffs while you sweep up chaff as Troops and then go for Corpuscarii or Vanguard blocks to deal with hordes, then toss in some Onager AT or AAir specialists or Dragoon skirmishers.

Hell, if we can give them <FORGE WORLD> or something you could have rerolling 2+ Sv Knights with Cawl and Shroudpsalm. That's probably not happening, though.

Personally I might put together a full House Malinax lance to go with my Admech anyway, since I've already got one regular Knight magnetized and half-painted. Given I now have access to recasters I'd probably add a Castigator, Atrapos and Acheron since I like them and leave the standard chassis to the Scion Aspirant.

As a GM, I don't bother with HP anymore. I just let players kill stuff after a certain number of hits. Little fodder monsters take one or two attacks to take out, and bigger monsters take five or six. Whatever feels right. I still have the players roll damage though, just to gauge descriptions and such. Is this a bad thing? Nobody in my group has caught on yet.

Seriously. There are other systems that exist. Ones that handle combat differently, more efficiently, whatever. If you just want to run a freeform system, do that. Don't lie to your players about it though.

It was great. A new 4e will never occurs because 3.PFurries (5e is good, but bland).
But it started a whole new view in rpg design and clarification/obfuscation of rules.

Homebrews and retroclones of 4e are hard because of the sheer amount of material to create and balance.

But it is a excellent edition that did what it proposed to do. Had it flaws, but the clear design allowed for easy fixes.

We'll probably never get another 4e, but its legacy will live on.

Times when you or your party came up with a creative (or simply not expected) solution to the problem infront of them.
