Jace walks around the island, Ha Ha What a story Mark!
>>
>>55254995
Well that's a nice looking beach.
Cudos to the artist.
>>
I can't wait for Jace to start humping Vraska's leg.
>>
>>55255269
This whole block is compelling me to draw romance novel covers featuring swooning jace and vraska. Or perhaps just editing their faces over them. Either way.
>>
>muffled Ocean Man in the distance
>>
>>55255269
I found it kind of odd how quickly she went from threatening to kill him again to sympathy. It's odd based on how personal their last encounter was.

Is Vraska just Yandere?
>>
I want Vraska to obtain the the power of the Immortal Sun and immediately betray Bolas.
>>
>>55255413
I think it's less sympathy and more shock. Prior to this point, she'd always dealt with Jace as a prepared, relatively in control opponent who kind of outclassed her. It's the equivalent of a mid-tier supervillain walking down the street and seeing Superman sitting barely conscious in an alley, looking like he hasn't eaten in a week.
>>
>>55255512
And what was their beef anyway? Was it all connected to ravnica? And if so does this mean that since they're on a different plane that they can't escape and Jace lost his memory that they'll work together?

I have to say I really like this article. I have a feeling that it's going to be enjoyable aaaallll the way through. Hopefully.
>>
Meh, I don't like when they wipe their memories but they still retain them deep in their brains, like Tezzeret or Jace. At some point he'll remember everything and Bolas crushing his mind will be for nothing.
>>
What swear did he say anons?
>>
>>55255667
Huh, apparently her goal the first time was actually just to recruit him. She just did so in the incredibly Black assassin method of mass murder and threats of mass murder.

I wonder if she's about to lie and tell Jace that he's her cabin boy or something.
>>
>>55255667
>>55255759
Yeah, Vraska's deal was that she wanted to end the guilds, because of the fact that all of them are kind of amoral assholes, and also she got a face full of police brutality. She just managed to make her recruitment pitch the least diplomatic thing ever, so Jace outed her plans to everyone and ruined her whole setup.

>>55255745
In Tezz's case, it was Jace deliberately erasing every single memory he ever had, including the ones that let him know how to do things like breathe. Bolas had to build him back from basically scratch. This time it's more just "shrug, undirected mind flay" from a disappointed Bolas, so its not quite as comprehensive.
>>
With transform mechanic returning again they missed the opportunity for a cloak boy Jace to transform into a cabin boy Jace.

Liliana coming to save Jace only to find him completely enamored with Vraska with no memory of her would be neat.
>>
>>55254995
I know we're just supposed to not think about it, but has anyone considered how ridiculous this is?

There are infinite planes in the multiverse, right? What are the chances that two people randomly planeswalking at different times, from different points, would ever randomly meet one another?
>>
>>55255859
The same chances that everyone's initial Planeswalk always brings them somewhere perfect rather than dropping them in the middle of the ocean or in a volcano. Like how Chandra sparked and got to go to a pyromancer monetary, Lili got to go to Innistrad and master zombies, Gideon got to go to a place with lots of angels and knights, etc.

Generally when you planeswalk randomly, it seems like sparks themselves guide you towards where you 'need' to be almost.

In short, plot convienience
>>
>>55255859
>implying Bolas did not kick Jace to Ixalan to meet with Vraska, whom he gave her compass
all according to Keikaku
>>
>>55255859
Realistically, when you spark you'd have more chances stranding yourself in the blind eternities than actually hitting a plane, let alone a safe, nonhostile part of the plane.
>>
>>55255834
Eh, he doesn't spend that long as cloak Jace in the set. If anything, I'd expect him to turn from Cabin boy Jace into his old self once he gets his memories back. That might be spoiling too much story in the first set though. I'm kind of glad transform is more limited here.

I'm starting to really like the idea of Vraska getting close to Jace. Can't be any less healthy than his relationship with Liliana, and at least Vraska has Green to help mellow her out.
>>
>>55256003
Maybe that's how the eldrazi titans came to be.
>>
>>55255747
My guess is "Poops."

>>55255808
In that case it would be interesting for them to team up

>>
>>55256222
>>55256270
Well then, guess we have to make it happen.
>>
So we know that Ixalan is a prison plane for planeswalkers. We also know that all of the planeswalkers (including Bolas) are looking for the Immortal Sun. This makes it pretty clear that the immortal sun will let them leave Ixalan. What if it is a spark, or a spark activator/implanter?

If this is the case, then this card also heavily implies we'll see a merfolk planeswalker next set
>>
>>55256361
>implying wizards will print non-human planeswalkers
Apart from Ugin and Nicol Bolas, name a single non-human species that has more than one planeswalker. Kiora is all you're getting fishfag.
>>
>>55256361
Do we know why Ixalan is a prison plane? Maybe Urza used it as a workshop plane a long time ago and made it so no one but him could Planeswalk there and then leave with his secrets, which could be The Immortal Sun.

I'm just spit balling here because Bolas has the Planar Portal and his Eternals, but now he needs some other all powerful item form another plane.
>>
>>55256446
>Freyalise and Nissa

>>
>>55256541
Well I'd imagine the sun is what's keeping it locked, but what the hell else does it do?

What is Nicol's endgame?
>>
>>55256446
Ajani, Tibalt, Sorin, Freyalise, Daretti, Ashiok, Dovan, Karn, Nahiri, Tamiyo, Vraska and Xenagos.
>>
>>55256541
I like the thought that it's the reason Bolas sent Vraska instead, because he's not sure if he could Planeswalk away either.
>>
>>55256446

Well shit you got me, I'm going to say "Elves aren't people", any response?
>>
>>55256583
>>55256614
Maybe The Immortal Sun is just some magic item that binds Planeswalkers to planes like everyone on Ixalan. If he figures out how to weaponize it like the bridge, he could trap all other Planeswalkers on their respective planes, while him and his turbo mummies murdered around the multiverse as the only actual Planeswalker.
>>
>>55256570
>>55256612
>Freyalise
They said 'nonhuman'
Just because she's part elf doesn't negate the fact that she's also part human
>>
>>55256446
Fuccbois aren't human.
>>
>>55256676
The condition wasnt that the walker isnt human at all, the condition was that they have matching nonhuman species
>>
In the Ixalan podcast, they mention that Vraska has grown a bit because there's now someone who believes in her, whatever that means. Is that person going to be Jace?
>>
>>55256583
Does Bolas even have an endgame? At this point he might be in it for the trolling.
>>
Is Jace's type supposed to be "powerful, black aligned, and will have no problems killing you if it conveniences them"? Because for all the talk about how he's not supposed to be a self-insert character I can self-insert that pretty well.
>>
>>55256993
I assumed it was the Golgari character from her story from before Amhonket.
>>

Hythonia the Cruel, from Theros.
>>
>>55258122
I think that's either supposed to be Hythonia.
>>
>>55257982
I honestly don't know if they ever bring Garruk back. His goal is killing Walkers and we can't have that. Also he gives off a white, rapey, serial killer vibe full of toxic masculinity.
>>
>>55258275
What if this plane is Garruk's perfect hunting ground.

Planeswalkers come in and never come out.
>>
>>55258275
I want the return of Garruk to be a set that focuses on both a walker that's never met him before, and in a setting in which he ends up being kind of a supporting character, the interactions with the other walker helping to help reassert his humanity. Like him running into Tamiyo and going on comfy ruin-hunting adventures, while he goes out and punches baloths, or Kiora, where they get in giant shitfits over who gets to keep/kill the krakens.
>>
>>55255389
Jace better be the one swooning though, Vraska just doesn't seem like the type to swoon for someone.
>>
>>55258275

I want Garruk to meet Kaya and Samut
>>
>>55258420
Bolas convinces Garruk that Ugin is better prey- why kill a dragon when you can kill a dragon thats managed to come back from the dead
>>
>>55258328
That would neat, but I think Garruk is a bit far gone to be redeemed, as he's embraced what he's become.

He would have been a perfect Gatewatch antagonist. Not some massive sweeping multiplaner threat, but still a danger since he targets walkers. A small group of the watch getting hunted and outsmarted by one predator.

Throw Liliana in there to get more proper development as she has to deal with the mistrust of the watch since it's her fault that Garruk became this way, and observe as she eventually comes to want to help him since it all ties to the Veil.
>>
>>55258485
Ugin would convince Garruk to kill Bolas because Bolas was the one who had killed him in the first place.

>>
>>55258521
This made me audibly lol good job
>>
>>55258538
Thanks! The interaction did flow kind of naturally, since Vraska struck me as someone who would actually be sympathetic towards those weaker due to her guild and past, just not showing it. Meanwhile, have Jace lose his memory makes it possible to start over convincing him fresh. It would no doubt lead to drama once he gets his memory back, but thats just more fun.

Of course, realistically he's just gonna be stuck on their crew for 5 minutes until he meets a Merfolk and goes off to be a big nerd and get his memories back.
>>
>>55255413
>>55255512
Vraska has a strong sense of...not justice, exactly, but something akin to it. People should pay what they owe and deserve to suffer consequences. Jace being humbled as he is means that he no longer pings her radar as being undeserving of his station.
>>
>>55255859
Jace's recent memories included interacting with Bolas, and a conversation with Ral about how Vraska was planeswalking to somewhere that didn't exist. Between those two things, it's not entirely unreasonable for him to have unconsciously latched onto some kind of trail left by Vraska holding Bolas's compass.
>>
>>55258983
I guess it's a sort of Green/Black eye for an eye sort of deal? I think it suits her well. I also think it's the kind of Black Jace could actually get behind

Your wish, my command.

>The cabin door slammed shut behind them. Jace staggered forward a few paces, hands bound tightly behind his back. Glancing up, he was greeted with a vision of ramshackle opulence. //Opulence.// Another word from a forgotten past, dredged from the depths of his brain. It seemed apt. He stood in a wide, spacious room cluttered with chests, charts, assorted weapons, wardrobes stuffed with lace and satin, gaudy tapestries, exotic furniture, and... statues?

>A firm hand on his shoulder jerked him out of his reverie. His captor marched him to the centre of the room, then shoved him face first onto an enormous, ornate four-poster bed. Vraska stood over her prisoner with a calculating look in her eye.

>"Let me ask again. What the hell happened to you, Jace? You're the last person I expected to run into." The gorgon leaned down and tugged Jace onto his back. She grasped his chin and moved closer, examining his face.

>/Jace,// the prisoner thought. //My name is Jace.// Somehow, it seemed to fit, perfectly, like an old jacket worn smooth and threadbare. He relaxed, and a faint smile played across his face, despite his discomfort and exhaustion.

>Vraska sighed.

>"You really are a mess. Oh, I've fantasized about having you at my mercy, but this is just... pathetic." Idly, Jace noticed that some of the gorgon's hair-tendrils were clenching and unclenching, as if agitated. //Irritation? Bemusement?//

"Do you... did you know me?" Jace asked, slowly.

>Vraska pursed her slender lips and grimaced. She perched on the edge of the bed and continued to scrutinise her prisoner, tracing a long-fingered hand along his collarbones and along his arm. Jace twitched at the gorgon's touch. The sensation of skin on skin was familiar, and yet so new.

>"Oh, I know you, Beleren. It's been a while, though. And we've had our differences." She sniffed at his neck, then drew back his shirt with a thumbnail.

Bolas' endgame is being shoehorned into the end of every fucking arc to say "keikaku" to give the illusion of structure to the story.
>>
>>55261541
They really don't. The Azorious symbol is a triangle with tunic circles in it. That symbol above Jace is circles, with one of the rings having 4 distinct points on it. Thus, not a triangle, not Azorious.
>>
>>55255413
Vraska never hated Jace personally, she hates 'the man'. It just happens on Ravnica that's exactly what Jace is. Here on Ixalan he's just a regular joe in a shitty situation.

It's the base of a pyramid

>>
>>55256003
Funnily enough that's what happened to Vraska. She spent like 20 years in a state of nothingness following her first walk.

>>
>>55262063
Maybe it's because Ravnica doesn't feel like home? It's a place she's spent her life in hiding and being persecuted.
>>
>>55256541
Locking a plane isn't that hard. Feroz locked Ulgothra on a whim and Azor locked Ravnica through the original Guildpact and he wasn't even a walker.

Maybe Bolas wants the sun to lock walkers into the planes he plans to conquer so they won't go around telling on him.
>>
>>55262154
That might be the case. Could be why she didn't have enough fond memories of it to spur her into leaving, even compared to the shadow realm.

Still, her time there was enough for her to hone her skills as an assassin, apparently, so it couldn't have been all bad.
>>
>>55256993
Mazirek in Ravnica is plotting a revolution thanks to her. And in Ixalan she has a whole fleet of pirates following her.

She realized her leadership skills may be more useful than her murdering skills.

>>55262063
Well it really depends on if the planeswalker WANTS to go home.

With all of the members of the (most likely defunct) gatewatch, something super-duper sad happened, making home a more foreign place that is emotionally scarring: Gideon kills his friends, Chandra's parents die, Liliana damns her brother by turning him a zombie, Nissa sees emrakul in all of her sexy hulking glory, Jace literally forgets his past and kills his mentor that betrays him by making him FORGET HOW TO BREATHE, and ajani's brother dies and his pride blames ajani the albino outcast.

However, just because an experience is shocking and traumatic, it doesn't equal a commitment from the planeswalker to not return home: Kiora got swallowed by a leviathan and it took her months to find her way back to her home plane of zendikar, narset, after finding out that clans that were ruled by humans, willed herself to stay on tarkir when her spark ignites, and samut's spark ignites after all of the trauma, sees starts for the first time and then returns home.

In conclusion I'm not sure I guess I know too much about planeswalker origin stories and I like to share my knowledge maybe
>>
>>55262310
Well, that's a fair point, but Nissa didn't stay gone for very long, since she hung around Lorwyn for a relatively short while until getting out just before the Aurora.

Still, it isn't entirely consistent, and it does seem easier for some than others.

The seal on Ixalan has similar design for Ugin's Eldrazi seal , The Sun Empire heirogylphics have images of Ugin and other dragons that look like Ugin, and The Immortal Sun can produce Dinosaurs just like Ugin's Dragon Storms made Dragons

Azor may not have been a planeswalker, but he made the fucking Guildpact powerful enough to affect the whole plane and stay functional for millennia. >>
>>55265259
It'd be something I'm not expecting, so assuming they write it well, I'm gonna call this one an I NEED IT.
>>
>>55265259
Before he regains his memories, I feel like they're going to establish something of a rapport. Someone is going to have to show him the ropes, and Vraska knows full well how helpful he'd be.

I fully expect them to part at some point, either during a battle with him getting lost and getting his memories back shortly after, or him deciding to leave before she betrays him.

In either case, I think there is a chance that he'll try and convince her to betray Bolas during the inevitable scene when everyone shows up in the Immortal Sun treasure chamber at once.

However, unless they've really thought this through and plan to do something clever, then I expect them to go with her saying no before the thing breaks and spoils whatever plan this was supposed to be. At the same time though, maybe the time they spent will be enough, her green side will remind her of her care for others, and she'll join up with him for the finale. Maybe even join the Gatewatch, but with two green members already I find that much more dubious.

As for want, I really really really want to see this. Vraska is a much more compelling Black character than Liliana is, plus her motives actually do seem to align with the sort of thing the Gatewatch is worried about. I mean, Liliana literally only joined because Jace begged her and because she could get something out of it. Vraska seems like she'd be far more interested in freeing planes from disaster or tyranny. I mean, imagine if she'd been at Kaladesh. She'd be all over an revolt to tear down the Consulate. Similar case with Amonkhet actually. Less likely to laze around commanding mummies and more likely to actually dig into the populace's weird death cult and be suspicious of the gods.

It'd be refreshing to have a Black character who was actually trying to do justice, even if it is in the most horrifying way.

Dinosaurs killing each other for food hardly counts as them "being defeated" when compared to burning the living bodies of vampires.
Would two pirates dueling on a ship count as them being defeated?
>>
>>55271433
It's still 'dinosaur hate' if it features dinosaurs getting their butts kicked, even by other dinosaurs. Besides, pirates and dinosaurs both have colors that promote internal conflict, something that vampires lack.

Let's have a look at the original post:
>What made me actually mad is that the panel confirmed that anons theory that the vampires are mainly shown getting killed and maimed way more than pirates and the Not Aztecs since it's justice to the evil conquers.

There's nothing there about creatures being beaten by other tribes. All he wrote about was 'vampires are mainly shown getting killed and maimed way more than pirates and the Not Aztecs.' Which is false, as the 'Not Aztec' faction does have more cards featuring its creatures being 'killed and maimed.'

Changing the argument to 'which faction is shown being defeated by other factions the most' would be moving the goalposts for the sake of getting the answer you want, which is 'vampires.'

Genuinely good storyline. They could probably push Bolas for another set before finally "dealing" with him (in a no doubt temporary fashion) then another return to ravnica set with random new problems, then a "Garuk is hunting planeswakers one by one" set, another filler set and then circle back around to Eldrazi or Bolas again.

It never gets old.

Next few settings will reintroduce the Gatewatch and provide possible new members.

As we know, next setting is Return to Dominiaria, with Liliana as our main character. Koth will be there too, and they'll bond over losing everything.

After that is a Wild Wild West/mad max post apocalyptic plane starring Chandra.

Then there's return to Theros with Gideon and Dack Fayden to rescue the now Angelspeth.

Then there's the Norse plane with Nissa and Thor and Odin and shit.
>>
>>55276171
>Liliana as our main character. Koth will be there too, and they'll bond over losing everything

I'm tempted to make a BLACKED joke, but it doesn't work in the context of Magic, and I think the only thing Koth can get up is a Rage Hardon at New Phyrexia.
>>
>>55276392
Someone mentions a white woman and a black man in the same sentence and the first thing that comes to mind is a BLACKED joke.
>>
>>55276392
I was on mobile when I posted that, but when I realized that RtD would be the best place to reintroduce Koth (since he's been there before in Scars of Metal and his home plane is probably completely unlivable now), I was already formulating the BLACKED jokes.

Who else do you think will return in the upcoming few settings? I'm personally itching for some Ashiok.

Imagine Ashiok messing around on the Wild Wild West/Mad Max plane against Chandra.

Wild West will be another problematic tropespace(tm)

"Gods" are just oldwalkers that built the plane's religion around them thousands of years ago, but are closer to dying post mending. Their hold on the plane is slipping, and it's returning to its old form, making it a wild, chaotic place not unlike parts of Zendikar. Nissa's right at home, experiencing the rebirth of a plane, connecting with its mana, and watching a civilization experience what they think is !notRagnarok as their gods forsake them and die to the planes powerful new elementals and monsters.

Also, Valkyrie angels at low cmc! And good green and red warrior support. It's like how New Phyrexia shifted all colors to black, but red instead.

And more Nissa midriff!

>>55276682

By Magic rules it would be Koth getting BLACKED, not Liliana.
>>
>>55276844
What Gatewatch character would that be?
hard mode: No Liliana
>>
>>55277434
That's the pace with which old magic used to tackle its problems. How long had it been since we last saw bolas, and he's advertised as Magic's premier antagonist? I feel like you're implying that they're intentionally not using him anymore. I feel like it's pretty obvious they would set up "a dude that hunts planeswalkers, the most dangerous game" and then decide THAT'S how they shove him under a rug as we continue to follow planeswalkers.
>>
>>55277090
A good counter-point, but Garruk is a lot less intense story-wise than a lot of older Magic characters. Yeah he was cursed, but he kind of grew to like it and go with it.

Compare that to killing your broken, twisted brother, spending 2,000 years in a vengeance-fueled delusional haze, being increasingly unable to value the people around you because you're too obsessed with the bigger picture, having your ideals twisted after another few thousand years of conflict, and dying to fulfill your purpose.

Or shirking your responsibilities only to find your family killed, trying to do the right thing and losing your love because of it, confronting a great evil and having to kill your loved one, being cursed with Phyrexian vampirism for your trouble, and being warped into a puppet bend on your own world's destruction.

Or hell Barrin. His wife was Urza's protoPhyrexian experiment, he had to live with all of Urza's mistakes, and his family dies.

>>55277434
Tragic. Wizards hates characters that change or aren't marketable to idiot children
>>
>>55277507
I hope you can see how clearly and obviously you trivialized Garruk's whole arc versus how you described Urza or Crovax. The hypocrisy is so blatant it almost physically hurts me and I'm baffled how you could type that with a straight face and feel like your analysis was correct.
>>
>>55277458
Would be cool to see one of them be turned into some abomination. Like disgusting abomination, not some retarded human shaped phyrexian.

>>55277471
At most, they'll have him kill some C Lister like the devil guy.
>>
>>55277533
The comparison was fair where Urza was concerned, he was a much better character, but it gets iffy around Crovax or Barrin.
>>
>>55277561
I'd say the only reason I couldn't boil down Urza to a trivial flippant discription is just because he's gone through so many hands and so many arcs. And you probably still could if you tried.
>>
>>55277549
My only point was that it seemed like you were implying that they made him evil so they'd never have to use him, when the way they made him evil pretty much means they HAVE to bring him back eventually which I'm sure they did on purpose, and probably more than once unless they just outright kill him or he otherwise has a change of heart.
>>
>>55277549
>At most, they'll have him kill some C Lister like the devil guy.
pls don't bully Tibalt
>>
>>55277458
Gideon. They already want him to be a nuanced version of white, and with since some sources indicate Ajani is more liked, they could switch the two as main characters. This would let Gideon act as a conqueror, trying to save the multiverse by personally running it with an iron fist, ensuring that all laws are his idea of just.
>>
>>55277608
I couldn't see this with gideon considering his whole schtick is that he risks himself tp protects others because he hurt those close to him when he protected himself. I feel like it'd be more like he decides something/somewhere isn't worth saving anymore.
>>
>>55277589
>has a change of heart
>when he is turning into a demon
>when liliana goes "like I give a fuck" about any horrible shit she's done

Also wizards won't ever have the 3 women killed because yaas kweeen.
>>
>>55277608
What do we have for mono-colored antagonist in each color?
White: Elesh Norn, although Phyrexia isn't a serious interplanar threat at the moment.
Blue: No Idea. I guess Tezzeret could become mono U at some point.
Black: I'd say Ob Nixilis but I don't know much about him.
Red: Tibalt I guess? Sarkhan maybe?
Green: Maybe Garruk?
...damn, that's when I realize how long I've been out of MtG lore.
>>
>>55277638
>>55277608

I don't want Gids to go bad, he's the only member of the Gatewatch who is written have competently.
>>
>>55277533
I actually can. There's a heavy bias given I've read more about those other characters, Garruk's story ending (as of now) isn't entirely tragic unlike the other characters, and I'm not as familiar with Garruk.

But we get a lot more setup for Urza and Crovax, where Garruk is introduced cursed, you get a few comic pages of pre-curse backstory, and then we don't see him for a while. And again, Garruk's story isn't nearly as tragic in my opinion, though I'm not sure that's really that significant. "And then Another bad thing happens," isn't masterpiece storytelling in itself, so just piling on Urza's or Crovax's story points and holding them up to Garruk's comparatively few isn't entirely fair. Still notable though, and the basis for my personal opinion.

So my straight-faced typing comes from the option that
>Garruk = dark and sad
>other mentioned characters = darker and sadder

>>55277561
>Crovax or Barrin
I think getting to know a character and having the status quo change so harshly is more compelling. Is to me at least.

>>55277574
Distant selfish jerk hurts people around him in his quest for "the greater good"?
>>
>>55277695
White: Heliod (especially if he is connected to the Order of Heliud)/Elesh Norn
Blue: Don't know. Was there ever a mono-blue antagonist in Magic?
Black: Obby Nixilis gave the Gatewatch their first spanking, so he is in
Red: Tibalt fits, if they can actually expand the character beyond lolrandom pain XDDDD
Green: Someone like Feroz who hates planeswalkers and thinks that summoning things is immoral? I don't know.

Perhaps another Phyrexia on a plane Karn infected could be more flavored to Blue/Green instead of the White that dominates New Phyrexia
>>
>return to phyrexia
>gatewatch comes in because reasons
>liliana can't control zombies because phyrexia
>she gets turned into some half-lobster type creature

So for strong, independent half red women of color who don't need no men, we have:

R/U Saheeli Rai
R/G Samut
R/W Huatli

All we need is a R/B pirate lass with dreads or an Afro (cause she's black, you see) and we'll have a full set.

Then Chandra can lead the new mini team of The Firecats, a bunch of brownish lesbians that use red mana.

Kaladesh was the perfect spot for a green antagonist but they had to make a point that in this world green loves artifice to distinguish it from Mirrodin the first time around. An ecoterrorist type guy that thinks aether shouldn't be contained in machines would be really cool imo, and also it would make a renegade a bad guy the next time as opposed to Tezzeret making the consulate bad last time.

It was a bit more dismissive of Garruk than I intended, and colored by what I find more interesting in a story. And is was ultimately to illustrate that the writers had more time and ability to market a character who's destiny was to suffer and die as appose to modern stories (though Elspeth kind of hits that mark).

Don't know if it's unfair to compare them for that point, but directly, yeah a bit. Like trying to compare Jace's "Tezz is a meanie" arc to Garruk's "everything I care about is rotting and dead" story in some ways.
>>
>>55278061
Also for the record there is in fact a faction of elves on Kaladesh that don't like/use artifice so I feel like that was intentionally leaving open this sort of possibility.

Generally there's supposed to be at least 5 planeswalkers per block, with one to represent each color, even if some are multicolor and some are monocolor.

So Kaladesh had Dovin Baan for W, Saheeli for U, and Chandra for R. Then in Aether Revolt we got Ajani for G and Tezz for B.

Currently, we're set up having mono U Jace, RW Huatli, and (presumably) BG Vraska.

Rivals of Ixalan should have two more, though due to the magic of dual color ladies they could be almost anything. All jokes aside a R/B Ixalan pirate would be cool, and either a Merfolk or Vampire (or both) as well.
