A couple of questions about concept art that I've wondered about for a while, don't know where else to put other than /ic/ seeing that questions about concept art have been posted before (and then turn into arguments about the necessity of 3d skill in a concept artist). Not interested in being a concept artist, just curious. Pic unrelated, random image off Google.
1) How much are 3D modellers and the like expected to follow the concept art? Is it a concept to be followed loosely or a blueprint to be followed exactly?
2) How common is it for companies to not have dedicated concept artists and instead have people from other disciplines create the concepts? I doubt most projects can afford a dedicated concept artist.
Again, not that interested in getting into the industry, just curious about these specific details.

>1) How much are 3D modellers and the like expected to follow the concept art?
They follow final designs, not early concepts.
>>3012389
2 is more like they hire a concept guy, but he also does other shit.
>>3012389
people with any size budget almost always hire at least an artist, usually though they do a bunch of other art department type jobs as well, like everyone in the art dept. lol, 'concept artist' isn't a very common job title at all

Author is Joan Miro. Figures and Dog in front of the Sun. 1949.
Now OP, please be a good person and delete your thread.
What do you guys think of this guy's art?
I've seen it spammed across the boards lately and all of the uncensored shit is patreon locked.
Viral marketing? His tumblr posts rarely get up to 10 notes.
>>3015095
i think because of the female insert that people think the artist is a chick, and that's why it's getting traction on 4chan
>>3015095
>I've seen it spammed across the boards lately
Delete this thread, OP.
Don't answer to me, I've already Hidden this thread.

Why does the guy's face look somewhat feminine while the girl looks like an ugly dude?
Until what age is it acceptable to be /beg/tier if you want to go pro?

Thank you
its, uhh
I've been trying to help some artists but now they just take my concepts without crediting me.
This happens a lot. I said I would stop trying to help other artists cause the egos can be out of control, but I got a soft spot so I try to give them critiques and reblog their art to give them exposure, but they seem only interested in gaining followers.
After they get bigger, they never reblog my art or even give credit for things I help them with.
They take all the credit for things I help them with.
At first I thought them taking my ideas was flattery but now it feels like they're against me or trying to compete with me or something.
Am I just being naive?
How do you tell the difference between an artist being inspired by you or them trying to compete with or even step on you?
>>3014294
Artists are always both inspired and trying to compete with you and step on you.
lmfao don't kid yourself, your ideas weren't shit. the fact that you're worried/salty about competition means you're shittier than they are, which means your "ideas" were shit to begin with. just another dumb ideas guy spending more time on anything but improving the actual craft

Would you still eat this cheeto EVEN IF you dropped it on the ground?
Is there a secret to digital inking?
I'm pretty good at analog inking but I cant fucking ink digitally, the different levels of zoom completely fuck me over in getting a consistent lineweight.
Are there any good tutorials or videos?
Pic unrelated, sorta
>>3012726
Your drawing is just shit op.
>>3012726
inking digitally should be easier, becauseyou can delete and redraw everytime a line doesnt feel right. and that's what you should do. use the eraser and the brush alternatively to make lines as smooth as possible and change the weights of the line on the critical points such as the curves and the straight lines.
>>3012726
then lock the zoom level in your program?
Which artists do you look up to, /ic/?

Is 3D modeling the true digital analogue to drawing/painting?
>>3010367
yes
Perhaps
>>3010367
Yes.
I trained to do 2D concept art, got really good grinding fundamentals like FZD students do. But, the truth is 2D concept art is dying.
People here should switch from 2D to 3D.
Just look at the front page of artstation and you see Tor Frick.
2D was a mistake.

Sculpture thread.
Beginner here. Just finished a sculpt called King of the Highlands.Very happy with it for my third sculpt.

you will make it, dont worry.
>>3012625
i do some found object sculptures, let me take some photos
>>3012625
Do you really think you're finished here? I think you could've worked more on this. You've only begun to scratch the surface of the work that should've been put into the fur and inside the ears, imo.
I only see students at FZD doing this.
Concept artists on artstation for example posts only well composed and poor detailed works. It is the same job ?
>>3008487
There's actual concept work. The stuff in art books and marketing (= artstation profiles) is superpolished.
Think of the last game you played. If it was an AAA game, they had their specialized concept artists to design the doors, windows, furniture, stuff on top of the table, ... He doesn't even touch the character or creature design.
Highest competition is in character design. Environment and props gives you a better chance of a job. Doing graphic design, UI design, programming, 3D modelling and the likes gives you an even better job, because concept art in general is oversaturated.
>>3008498
Sorry for bad grammar. Am tired.
As far as I understand it it's just different kinds of Visual Development/Concept Art.
A lot of the time in-studio a piece of concept art would require a lot of work and variations on said work done in relatively quick succession within a short period of time, but sometimes it calls for something like this/more detailed work, it just depends on what's needed at that point in production.
Concept Art is used in various stages throughout production. At the beginning, it's more about idea generation (and sometimes later in production when things need to be changed and restructured or new things need to be added), but as the project moves forward you'll need solid design work from which the various departments can take from, which is where things like the image in your post come in.
A 3D modeller could take this and work with it.
Has anyone on /ic/ been to FZD? Is the experience really difficult, yet rewarding? Are the teachers engaging? Do they always favor their favorite students? Are people in FZD secluded, or are they open to meet new people? Is FZD generally worth it?
The girl who wrote the sticky went to FZD.

If you're from outside Singapore. No. IT cost like £35,000 just for ONE year. You do 16 hour days. You will need about another £10,000 for living for that year. So with food about £50,000.
Thats basicallyl a deposit for a house. It's pointless, you might aswell just teach yourself, plus they don't teach you any of the tricks he shows in his videos, he just keeps going on about the fundamentals. It's pathetic.
