Any of you have a homelab or server grade hardware? Single host, hyper-convergence, virtualized, bare metal, Linux, Microshit, BSD, whatever.

Anyway what do you do with your homelab?

Pic in OP isn't mine. Running a type 1 hypervisor with a bunch of virtual machines for things like file servers, web servers, build server (so I don't have to compile shit on my laptop).

You should start a homelab general to get more people to make homelabs. I always wanted to get into that community but the only one I ever found was /r/homelab and they're all retarded

Nothing I do on my personal rig is critical enough for ECC, and according to Google's own testing, errors resulting from flipped bits happened 1% of the time on average, up to 5% from one unnamed supplier.

It's borderline meme tier if it didn't destroy your work with out it.

Is there any reason to use any version of debian at all?

Think about it. The stable version is old software from 3 years ago, The testing branch is broken as fuck and the unstable branch is basically just arch except not as good.

Why the hell even use it?
29 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
>>58982429
because for 99% of packages I don't give a shit if they're old. For the ones I do care about (I can count them on one hand), there's backports.
>>
depends how much you value stability relative to being "bleeding edge"
>>

>The stable version is old software from 3 years ago
I think it's actually 4 years.

>The testing branch is broken as fuck
Not much more so than fedora which updates every 6 months.

>and the unstable branch is basically just arch except not as good.
More packages and architectures and competent devs who actually contribute upstream (to the linux kernel and GCC among other things) makes it superior to arch. Arch is garbage for dumbfags.

AVOID Solid SEO-VPS, WORST customer service ever!

A couple of users had suggested buying SolidSEOVPS, and said that they have "excellent customer service"? They have the WORST customer service I have ever dealt with. To anyone reading this? DO NOT EVER USE SolidSEOVPS's service, EVER.

I tried buying the VPS and and Private Proxies and first ordered with my father's credit card. I got the "Fraud Error" message so I emailed them and they said to use my own credit card. So then I did that and got the same "Fraud" error. I emailed them again and asked them what is going on? They said try to pay with PayPal. So I tried that and got the same error message for a third time and then customer service replied to me that "We cannot accept your order as we don't think you are legit". I answered back along the lines "What the hell is wrong with you people? You can't even create a functional online payment system and you expect me to want to use your crappy VPS/proxies service? You guys are the ones who are not legit". By the way, the name of the customer service agent is Sam Marshan. He is extremely rude and an embarassment to the company. I wonder if Solid SEO-VPS is aware of his rude behavior? Perhaps they should fire Sam Marshan before he turns off even more people from the company by his rude and hostile behavior.

Really, what a joke. I'm really surprised those guys suggested Solid SEO VPS as the best because they are literally the WORST service I have ever found. I am writing this message to warn others NOT to use their services because the customer service is not only NOT helpful, they are very rude and hostile. A real bunch of jerks. AVOID this company!

You ever notice you'll be hanging around bullshitting with a group of friends, or maybe you'll just be talking to one of your friends (hell, maybe you're talking to yourself) and they'll bring up what they just did in their field. "Yeah, we went and took samples at this lake for my biology class to study the effects of geo-thermic-tempulation (I made that up)" or "Yeah, I just got done studying some jazz chords and this is how this chord relates to that one, and why it works to play".

Then you bring up the very beginning of what you just coded, not even really describing what you did, just that you did it, and the eyes glaze over and silence arises. It's mystifying.

I feel like I'm fairly interested in a lot of things. I'll take a chance to hear about some geo-thermic shit, I play guitar so I want to know about some jazz chords, but I've yet to meet anyone outside of the programming world seem at all interested in coding. It's weird.

What I'm really trying to say is, when I finish something I've been coding for a while and I want to show it to someone in real life, I can't (I never made friends in the comp. sci. dept. of my school, those guys are the most socially awkward people ever). My friend can show me the song he wrote, or my other friend can talk to me about some work he was doing with physics and the Tesla coil he built himself, but damn if some code I write isn't worth the pixels it's held on.

I'm the programmer in the house, so whenever I say I'm coding they call it "1s and 0s" (indeed, my music major roommate and I even wrote a song about it called "Binary Blues"), "hax0ring" (we say that out loud). One of my roommate refers to everything I do as "buffering".

I don't know how to conclude this submission with anything worthwhile so I'll just do it here.
