Incidentally: all of the Joe stuff so far apparently took place prior to All Hail Megatron, with AHM to Dark Cybertron taking place in the "5 year gap" between this series and GI Joe vol. 4. Which is the only way it really makes sense, given... well, AHM destroying 1/8 of the planet.

Yep. In 2016 they were retconned into both taking place in the same universe, which actually does work surprisingly well, though it's pretty tight.
The Joe stuff does get a good bit more silly and sci-fi after that, though, which you may not be into.

Dixon's handling of Destro and the Baroness hating each other seemed like "doing something different for the same of doing something different". They're popular together, so it's not that surprising a later writer would do this.

Dixon also started out with a Duke/Scarlett/Snake-Eyes love triangle that was already over, and everyone had lost. It was another odd choice.

They've always been different guys. Heavy Duty was a Literally Who? character until Hasbro started pushing him as a Roadblock replacement in the 2000s, notably in GI Joe: Sigma Six, and in the Rise of Cobra movie.

The IDW comics had Heavy Duty in them from the start, but made things more confusing by making him look more like Roadblock.
