I think the problem is that Japan doesn't really have the 'animation is for children' stigma that has only recently been abolished in the West. Therefore, they have produced more mature (or immature) animated works than we have. However, making generalizations and definitively saying one is better than the other is stupid.

Maybe it could work in a world where bein fat is a symbol of being healthy and good, but to me it's like, put the ice cream bar down fatso, then I dunno, maybe that would cut out at least half of your problems.
