Best platformer on the GB. Totally overlooked, ignored, no one ever talks about it.

>Best platformer on the GB

Let's be reasonable; it's a great game but it's no Mario Land 2 or 3.
>>
>>4107756
It has amazing graphics. Normally sprites are tiny as fuck without any details. Here you get big sprites, lots of details and charm. The enemies are great and hilarious as well. Just think of the first boss fight. Young ghost, father ghost and grandpa ghost is too old and he just faints because it's too exhausting for him. This stuff is clever and hilarious. You've got other very clever bosses and amazing level design which means there is always a change in the game to make things interesting. Just think of the second level: first you go all the way up on a tree (vertical scrolling instead of the standard horizontal scrolling) and then it goes it horizontal scrolling where you have to shoot flower enemies in order to create a path of veins with two rows and you have to watch out for owls killing those. Clever. Then you later get the fast paced roller coaster level.
In order to make everything even more interesting, add something rewarding and a strategic element you will learn (actually remember) new skills. Use these skills to you advantage. You also get cute and charming cut scenes that progress the story after each level. The music is amazing and as a bonus you get fun mini games which make collecting coins (you only get if you kill an enemy with a special attack) really rewarding. The mini games are also quite fun.

So it's alright. What the hell do you even want? What platformer is better? Don't tell me Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins.

So what approach you follow for your "perfect" DKC game save files? Do you clear each world and level alternating main characters for the an even as possible proportion of clear icons per map? How do you deal with an odd number of worlds, and worlds with an odd number of levels? Do you give priority to the main Kong for each game?

The ideal method for me would be keeping two saves, each with everything cleared with one kong, but it's a bit unpractical since it leaves only one "free" slot for casual playthroughs

I used Diddy for everything.
>>
>>4107281
This is some hardcore OCD you've got going there, bro, no offense.
>>
I complete the game, then go back to levels that haven't got the "!" mark and try to find the secrets I missed.
I use DK as my main, and save Diddy for last since his hitbox is smaller, I prefer to have him in the reserve.

It's not THAT bad, but thanks to AVGN all the kiddies like to scream about how terrible it is even though none of them have played it

Is it possible to beat all the retro final fantasy games without using magic even once?
18 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
In the first game it definitely is. Not sure about 2 and 3, because I'm not that familiar with them.
>>
Probably.
Using attacks and items should get you through all of them, and you could just grind and overlevel to get you through a pinch.
>>
>>4106905
FF4, 5 and 6 have gimmick dungeons that prevent you from using physical attacks. Magnet Cave in FF4, Fork Tower in FF5 and Cultists Tower in FF6

Depends what you like playing I guess.

Have you thought about this AT ALL or are you just jumping on the bandwagon and looking for spoonfed recommendations?

How do you feel about your consoles having 'battle scars'? Are they an endearing sign of a loved childhood toy, or a sign that it's ready for the trash?
Pic related is my childhood SNES, missing some corner chunks.
I'm torn between its sentimental value, and my desire for pristine hardware. Should I do a shell swap or embrace the rot?
35 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Do you have it for display, or to play games?
>>
>>4105860
I just got it out of the wardrobe after over a decade, and have been considering buying a flashcart for it.
Thing is, if I do that then I'd need a 60Hz mod for it as well, so there's a potential case for buying a new console and finding a way to display my old one.
The cartridges I own are SMW, SMAS, Yoshi's Island, & the DKC trilogy, which as I understand are all 'PAL optimised'.

Another shot from the back. The missing chunks are all from the top half, which has turned more yellow than the bottom half, so it makes sense that it'd be more brittle

why doesnt yu suzuki get the same amount of recognition and praise that miyamoto gets?
31 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>4105023
Suzuki's games are basically designed as thrill rides (and he's explicitly said that this was a design goal). As such, they don't fare as well outside of arcades and people ended up playing inferior ports of them.
Shenmue is the exception, but it's a relatively niche game.

In contrast, Miyamoto's games are meant for the home market.
As such, they did well there and it's a lot easier to remember something you had more consistent access to than an arcade cab.
didn't help that when Sega's home systems could recreate the visuals his games demanded at home (Saturn, Dreamcast), Sega was busy fucking up completely in the home market
>>
>>4105108
arcade ports are just a waste of time in general. nobody wants to play something that was designed to be turf you off the cabinet as quickly as possible by being completely cheap, tacky and frustrating. being able to push start and get more credits only adds so much extra.

Pic related is a solid 4/5; has aged well, but modern "gamers" could find getting trapped in deep didgeri-doo and having to start over a little triggering.

I really enjoyed the original Bonestorm and its sequel Bonestorm II, however I feel that Bonestorm 3 added in too many ridiculous characters proving once again that the developers did not truly understand what they originally created.

What is the best kind of stand to get for displaying a gameboy?

Recently picked up these phone stands without realise how small they actually were. The gameboys are too thick/top heavy to stand up on them, but they are perfect for the games.
Looking for something similar but for the gameboy/pocket/colour itself.
