How did ATI not go out of business by 2000?
>>4100954
???
What do you mean. They were almost always competetive. This isn't s3 virge shit. Ati128 wasn't bad, it was just the budget card. They also kept up with that tv out (and sometimes in) for years and years.

This card offers 4th generation 3D performance in a 5th generation world. However, if you?re a casual gamer looking for a card with the video capabilities of the All-In-Wonder 128 Pro, I?d have no problems recommending this card to you. ATI isn?t marketing this as a V5 or GeForce killer, that?s what the RADEON is for. On the other hand, with the All In Wonder 128 Pro, they have delivered a good all around solution with some great features.

1024x768 at 32bpp.
Tv in, tv out, mpeg2 decoding.
Kind of a good budget card tbqh senpai, all the features you need to turn a shitty cpu into a media pc.
I remember my radeon 9800 was hot fucking shit when it came out.
What was up with SEGA assigning tons of different manufacturers for it's production of the SEGA Saturn?
Seriously even the legendary stinker FUNAI produced HST 3210 models.
Also rather interesting subtle changes between the models, I had no idea HST 3200 had those ventilation holes on the sides and that the LEDs on the HST 3200 are bigger than on the HST 3210. HST 3210 internals also seems to overall resemble the what we call the Model 2.

/vr/, can we talk about THIS masterpiece?
>>4100760
We had a great thread about it where I found out it's been translated both to English and to Flash (?). At any rate, there's a site you can just go to and the game plays in English. Haven't played it myself yet but it's definitely on my list, I'm told it's less bleak, more malevolent than the anime. Also seems like it could feel better in general as an online experience.
>>4100768
someone post the site please, i'm intrigued.
>>4100768
Played the whole thing a year ago. In my controversial opinion it's better than the anime, though that might be because I love the horror aspect.
What are the best CRT to own in the year 2017?
Depends on your application
>>4100679
For what?
LaCie, Sony and NEC VGA monitors.
Meme Sony PVM and BVM monitors.
I'd like;
A consumer-grade TV (not a monitor)
Reasonably large (>20")
4:3
Preferably curved screen, although flat is fine if it doesn't have bad geometry issues
Component input
A good Japanese brand
That hasn't been thrashed out to the point of near death
Pic related would have been Interesting to see on the Saturn, Jaguar CD, or PS1. It could have been possible, seeing as the sequel had a DC port that got canceled.
>>4100406
Definitely deserved a PS port and I'd still have an og PlayStation hooked to my TV right now if the second had a port as well.
>>4100406
Are you retarded? System Shock controls would've been awful on consoles.
It did get a port to the PS1 but only in Japan iirc.
How exactly does one get into collecting old software/hardware?
Been wanting to collect retro games for a while, but don't really know where to start (besides checking out local yards sales, pawn shops, etc).
What console would you recommend someone start collecting on, and what sites do you usually use to buy your games?
>>4100397
Stupid faggot, just buy whatever interests you.
You don't "get into collecting", you collect something because you're into it.
It depends on what you're interested in. As a collector, I only go after systems that were important to me personally as a child. It's hard to justify a big cost for a game or accessory to some console you don't have an emotional investment in.
That said, at the moment I'd say your average cost for the consoles that /vr/ largely talks about (with a controller and all wires) is something like:
THIRD GENERATION
NES: $50
Atari 7800: $80
Sega Master System: $70
FOURTH GENERATION
SNES: $50
Sega Genesis: $20
FIFTH GENERATION
Nintendo 64: $60
Playstation: $20
Sega Saturn: $70
Mostly prices are commensurate with console price. Playstation games are generally cheaper than Nintendo 64 games, NES games are cheaper than Master System games, etc. That said, big name titles despite the fact that they were far more common generally have much larger price tags. For example, your average Super Nintendo game is $10-$20. Donkey Kong Country, despite having been sold like crazy and being all over the market retails around $35 because it's a big title that everyone knows. Logic doesn't always follow with collecting prices.
As far as where to start, against the general consensus of the board, I don't recommend craigslist and yard sales. There's not a lot of consumer protection in those instances and people are goddamn cheats. You're better off hitting major sites like Amazon to develop a baseline of what the game costs, then camping e-bay until you find a good deal relative to that price. If you're impatient, the secondary online retailers like JJGames or DKOldies usually have slightly better prices than Amazon and the same kind of consumer guarantees. But your best bet is generally ebay. It'll never be cheaper anywhere else and if someone fucks you there, ebay'll front the cost for you.
Unless you're a literal millionaire, don't bother collecting games - It's just too late to start. Just find yourself a system and then a flashcart for it.

My favorite high as fuck games are:
Metal Gear Solid
Donkey Kong Country
Chrono Trigger
Virtua Fighter 2
Yoshi's Story
Contra
any classic arcade game with black background screen, those are the best to play high.
DUDE
WEED
Post retro games that have FREEDOM in them.
Is that FREEDOM enough for you?

Happy July 4th
>install gog goty edition
>install deus exe
>install dx11
>install the maps version patch that fixes outdated goty maps
>install that one fix that fixes some npc that can break the game
>i7 7700k
>gtx 1080
>1080p at 144hz
What else am I missing from the ultimate experience? Not a big fan of texture mods or overhauls that change models or rooms entirely

Only having to finalize the installation within the week, I already discussed the matter with the senator

Nutatco?
That's dues exe? That looks like Swifty. Swifty is the Razer Naga sponsored WoW player if you don't know who I'm talking about.
Games you want to be into but just can't get into them:
The big one for me is Syndicate. I don't know why precisely; I like this style of game, the design is great, the setting is great, the controls are a little clunky but that's fine but for some reason it just never clicks for me.
>>4099959
Life is too short to try to "get into" games you clearly don't like.
>>4099974
It's not as if it takes long. Every few years I'll start it up, spend about twenty minutes on it and then just give up. It was the same when it was new and the same now. It's just something that really bugs me for a reason because I loved Cannon Fodder and X-Com and such, but I just can't get hooked on it.
>>4099959
Maybe what you need is Gender Wars.

There was a game I had when I was a kid in the 90s.
A strategy game in a fantasy-medieval setting. There was a faction called "Southerners" or "Man of the South" that looked like normannic soldiers and there also where units of druids that where recruited in a dolmen.
Does anybody remenber that game?

Hello, /vr/ethren,
A while ago I started working on a private server for us, sadly there was no interest in it.
But, in my research for the server, I stumbled across the original CipSoft server files from 2007 AND managed to get it working.
The result? I'm gonna play some old as fuck OG Tibia.
And I'm willing to share it with you if the interest is enough!
I'll be back in a couple hours.
>>4099209
Awesome!
Where did you find the server files? I'd like to archive them too.

I have the PAL version, and just found out Yoshi actually runs faster than he should. Has anyone played the PAL version at 60Hz on a modded console? I'm guessing it's one of those '50Hz optimised'games that shits the bed at 60Hz?
PAL wins again!
>>4099158
Because Nintendo was making the effort to convert their NTSC games to the PAL console, so when programmers do good jobs the speed between NTSC and PAL is the same.
>>4101896
What other games were optimised for PAL to run close to the same speed as their NTSC counterparts?
