One of the best looking GC titles that, for some reason never got a translation. Have you tried it?
It's on my list but I still need to get around to playing the first Star Ocean.
Actually, it did a short while ago:
http://www.romhacking.net/translations/2555/
I still need to give it a go myself.
I tried to play it in French because it has a high mutual intelligibility with my mother tongue but I got bored after a while. Same shit happened with Surging Aura.
why is it that some N64 games have save files you can copy off of the cartridge using a passport or other memory manager, but other games don't? How did games like Smash Bros. which does not have copy-capable memory, manage to save game data? And why does it not match up with games like Mario Tennis which did have copy-capable saves?
>>3262917
Neat picture!
1. Designers chose to do it that way.
2. Internal battery powers the Cart so it saves data by never turning off the RAM that the save data is on. These batteries last quite a while depending on many factors.
3. Designers chose to do it that way.
>>3262917
1. Because you're using the wrong memory manager
2. It wrote save data to the SRAM on the cart over the save lines
3. Because Mario Tennis uses a 16k EEPROM and SSB uses 32K SRAM so as you can see they literally don't match
I guess I need a different memory manager then, as the passport plus 3 isn't copying saves from anything which uses SRAM.
What memory managers are able to copy SRAM saves off of the carts?
Lately I've been playing some co-op games with a bro, but in some games there's a strange rule that when player 1 dies, player 2 dies as well. That, or something arbitrary like player 2 can't scroll the screen or enter doors.
>Pocky & Rocky 2
>Kirby Super Star
>Kirby's Dreamland 3
all very comfy games but shit sucks when player 2 isn't 100% equal to player 1.
What are some 'true' co-op games? Preferably SNES but anything goes really.
Contra 1, 2, 3, and Hard Corps
Goof Troop
Jackal
Mendel Palace
Pocky & Rocky
Any co-op arcade game
Turtles in Time
>>3262909
The vast majority of games fit, Kirby is just a bad choice for that.
How's about Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Did you like Forsaken?
Great Descent clone. Wish this type of shooter would come back.
>>3262473
My favourite game.
Played it on PS1 over and over, then got the N64 version too.
Great that it is freeware on PC and still gets maintained, the new level is hard as balls.
Excited that the 6dof genre could see a small revival with Sol Contingency and apparently a new Descent coming out.
>>3262473
It was pretty descent for a descent clone
What's everyone's favorite midi song from vidya?
>>3262298
Bitch what

Been listening to the Sam & Max: Hit the Road soundtrack. The Snuckey's music was always the best.
Do any of you guys have personal experiences with those infamous games like Action 52, Bubsy 3D, E.T., Superman 64 and the likes of those? Did any of you anons actually play some of those games back in the day or recently try them out of morbid curiosity? What were your thoughts on them?
>>3262194
I owned Action 52 as a kid on the Megadrive. I asked for it for my birthday.
The games were playable, some moreso than the others. As a kid you took what you got and made the most of what you had. There was nobody telling me that the game was shit and that I couldn't have fun with it.
I actually owned a few of those "Make My Video" things for Sega CD that they released back in the day. I remember playing it multiple times and even enjoying them (i didn't even like the music at all). Nowadays I would never bother with that shit. I think i was just enamored with FMV shit at the time
I played E.T. at some kid's house.
It's just another Atari game; its badness seems overrated.

Fuck this stupid thread, sage.

Don't you mean how ARE?
Mind what board you are on.

Is there any way to make an emulator look like a CRT?
No because CRTs and LCDs/LEDs are physically very, very different.
On CRTs, the image will change depending on how far you are from the screen. Most emulators that try to look similar to CRTs make it so that it looks like you're looking at the CRT very close, which is not how it actually looks like on a real CRT if you're several feet of distance away.
Just get a CRT.
>>3260717
There is no way to emulate CRT on an LCD.
If you think you will ever want to buy a CRT, it's better to buy in sooner rather than later.
$200 gets you an amazing, top-of-the-line 14" multiformat PVM or BVM with only very minor issues (burn-in or a tiny screen scratch). (Mint ones are closer to $500)
$200 can also get you a nice 20-incher if you don't care about 480p. For $100 you can get a sweet 13" 480i/240p desk tv.
Things only really get expensive if you want something professional that's either 20" and multiformat or larger than 20".
Even consumershit has better 'realism' and lag performance than LCD and people are practically giving these away for <= $30. Search craigslist. Only problem with this is most of the models people have kept to this point are the 30" and up, 250lb monstrosities and the smaller, more manageable ones are actually getting harder to find.
I inherited a Dreamcast from my junkie brother, but no games. What are some good games to get for it? Here's what I'm planning:
>blue stinger
>crazy taxi
>crazy taxi 2
>d2
>dead or alive 2
>ecco the dolphin: defender of the future
>gauntlet legends
>grandia ii
>guilty gear x
>hydro thunder
>jet "grind" radio
>jo jo's bizarre adventure
>legacy of kain: soul reaver
>metropolis street racer
>phantasy star online ver. 2
>re-volt
>samba de amigo
>san francisco rush 2049
>seaman
>sega gt
>skies of arcadia
>sonic adventure
>sonic adventure 2
>space channel 5
>unreal tournamentI already have the NOT RETRO GameCube versions of Resident Evil 2, 3, and Code Veronica.

Looks like a good list. I would add SoulCaliber, Narvel Vs. Capcom 2 (The unlockable system is so much more satisfying thean the PS2 version), Evil Dead (If you're into the movies), Power Stone 1 and 2, Sega bass Fishing is fun as fuck if you have a fishing reel controller, Shenmue, and probably Worms Armageddon.
You have Skies of Arcadia on the list. Good choice. Still my favorite RPG of all time. They need a re-release of it on a modern platform, with proper marketing, so that they can generate interest for a sequel. If the dreamcast had sold better, Skies would be a flagship RPG by now.
>>3260258
Where is Shenmue 1+2? the GOAT DC games
Also Power Stone 1+2
If you can get a light gun and are using a CRT like you should be House of the Dead 2
Soul Calibur 1
Lack of Love (l.o.l)
Zombie Revenge
Rez
Shadow Man
Daytona USA
re-volt
Ikaruga
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Rival Schools 2 (it hink this might have been project justice in the US)
Rayman 2
Sega Bass Fishing if you can get the rod (it's fun - no really!!)
Also play Virtua Tennis I don't even like tennis and those games are so fun.
Man, honestly, if you enjoy arcadey games (and especially if you have games to play with) there's like 200 pretty good games for the dreamcast.
Hope you got the loud dreamcast and not the L-O-U-D dreamcast. One variation of the dreamcast sounded like a tornado warning for some reason. I've come into contact with many dreamcasts though and that one is rare so it's probably just the loud one.

Ah man you got there before me with some of the same stuff. GOOD STUFF TOP LAD
There are already some music threads up, but what about a ending credits theme thread.

I fucking love Hard Corps.
Tell me about the Wonderswan. Only thing I know about it is that it was fairly popular in Japan.
Is it worth the import?
Please respond
>>3258894
I have a few. It's a nice handheld and very cheap (usually). Don't overpay, but you might pay a premium for shipping out of JP.
Be VERY careful when buying games for it. I would say 95% of the games on it are completely unplayable to people who don't speak Japanese fluently. It's easy to get fooled by a game with an English title and then you get it and it's not even a game, it's a visual novel fully in Japanese. Emulate before you commit to buying.
There's a black and white and a color version, the B&W is very cheap, but will not play color games, it is not forwards compatible. The color will play all games. B&W games are in a black case, color in transparent case.
But if you're just starting out I say get a cheap black and white one for about $10 and Gunpey and a couple games to see if you like it.
My recommendations:
Gunpey (only game I know of that's fully in English)
Crazy Climber
Run & Dim (one of the few shooters, pretty good too)
Ultraman (the best Ultraman game I've ever played, but that's not saying much)
any train sim (just for shits and giggles, they're cheap and actually pretty fun to screw around with)

>Is it worth the import?
Wouldn't know. I bought all mine for ¥100 at the local flea market.
Good machine with some fun games though.
This isn't very good.
Your opinion is wrong and you're a faggot.
>>3257751
Stupid and wrong contrarian opinions belong on /v/.
I think it's a rather good game that made some clunky choices in level design and flow that prevented it from being a great game.
Wish Raven did a 3 in the early 2000s. Considering how modern gaming is I don't want the Hexen series revisited at this point.
When I was looking at the back of one of my PlayStation games I noticed a most curious phenomena. What do you make of it anons? Have you ever seen it on the backs of some of your PlayStation games?
Nope, never seen that before.
Maybe these Digital Eclipse Software were a bit confused about the unofficial name given to the PlayStation by several magazines at the time.

FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!

FUCK
Have you ever finished Super Mario Bros without using warps, cheats, or save states? If so, what did you think of it?
Yes, I did.
It's a fun game. 8-3 is pretty hard.
>>3256190
Not missing out on much.
I have. Great game, especially for its time, but World 8 is a real bitch. The bullet bills in World 5 (or was it World 6?) are really annoying.
