Some say Eviolite is the reason Cross-gen evolutions are scrapped in favor for Mega Evolutions (Eevee being the exception). Eviolite raises both defenses by 50% and can make some Pokemon very beefy.
But why do they see this item as an issue? There are plenty of moves that remove held items, Knock Off being the most well known. And if that Pokemon has boosted its stats just use a phazing attack to remove them.
If Eviolite is such a big deal, why not remove it from future games problem solved right? Unfortunately GF has a throbbing boner for 'continuity' and is the reason we have Incense and evolutionary held items.
I don't know where I'm going with this.. Do you have a problem with Eviolite? Do you believe this item is the reason we no longer have Cross-gen evolutions?

Other than Porygon2 and Slowbro there aren't even that many pokemon that can abuse the eviolite. Yeah Friend Guard Clefairy is interesting, but usually a NFE pokemon with an eviolite will have no offensive pressure and be just support.

So what was the logic behind developing mega pokemon rather than just having more pokemon?
As much as trash can pokemon and ice cream and whatever doesn't fit, I really don't think the whole Dragon Ball Z-esque going EVEN FURTHER BEYOND fits pokemon whatsoever. It just feels so incredibly awkward and forced to give pokemon super evolutions that are temporary and just make them look like overdesigned versions of themselves.
Serious question, is there a reason to it?

Yeah I know that much but it just doesn't fit at all, all those in OP Pic just look so dumb. Maybe Blastoise looks reasonable but all the others just look terrible and don't really fit with the games style
