how much does it cost per day (not including travel) to stay in cambodia and thailand if you get a budget room and eat local food, no drinking or hookers.
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>

If you're willing to stay in a hostel dormitory, accommodations in both countries can be had starting at around $5, although most are a bit more than that. Private rooms start around $15 but will likely be grim. Basic but decent 2-3 star places can be had for as low as $25 or so. Street food is in my experience slightly cheaper in Thailand than in Cambodia unless you speak Khmer and can access the local places (and even then you're going to be charged more than a local would be). Sticking to street stalls and night markets, you can eat for $1-$3 per meal in Thailand, $3-$4 meal in Cambodia.
>tldr--somewhere between $8 and $34 per day, depending on a lot of factors.
>>
>>1075777
Both countries are listed here with prices in USD http://projectinspo.com/2015/03/10-of-the-cheapest-countries-to-travel-to/
>>
>>1075867
Pretty much this. I mean, there is some variation - in bkk and some smaller cambodian villages you can get a private room for $5 but good luck finding a dorm under $20 on koh phi phi, generallly though this guy's prices are on the ball.

Hey, first time here, figured someone here might have some experience with this. I was thinking about studying abroad some point in my college career, good idea or not?

I was thinking of England since I have a friend who lived there who said he liked it, and they speak English, also I've lived in Ireland a few years of my life so I know a bit about Weatern European functions. Good idea or bad?

Any advice, tips, comments, anything at ALL would be really appreciated!!

Always a good idea, and probbably an amazing experience regardless also nice to have on your CV. concidering you have enough money that is.

i have been studying abroad for about a year now, from Norway to New Zealand. its been an amazing experience and it feels really nice to be in a new place with little or no ties to Norway for me. mostly because of the +12 hours difference.

Not sure what the prosess is where you are from but check the requirements ASAP. i had to begin preperation 1 year in advance.
>>
I studied in Thailand, 1 semester abroad covered 3 levels of language, or 9 credits and I forget if it was another 6 or 9 credits of sociology and other credits.
Don't go to a place that speaks your language, branch out.
>>

conveniently i'm english and gonna be studying abroad in america next year
our universities are a bit more self directed learning oriented from what i can tell, you don't normally get homework apart from one or two essays and an exam, and you don't get that many contact hours, you're expected to do most of your studying in your own time.

i'd reccomend brighton, bournemouth, cardiff, edinburgh or manchester, don't go to london its expensive and shit

Where can I find statistics about luggage room pricing and places?
What countries it is common in them (most Europe I know)?
How much they charge?
Is there big companies or just hostels and hotels that charge?

I am sorry, but it is not clear what you are asking.

What does "luggage room pricing and places" mean? Explain using enough words that we can figure out what you mean.
>>
>>1075324
As in: do X % of luggage rooms just belong to the hostel/hotel? How much they usually charge. Is this clear now?

I'm going to be in china for the next few months (leaving in feb) and I want to visit a friend in India while I'm there. I'm on a tightish budget, what is the most effective way of getting to India from China (I'll be in Sichuan province)?

>>

flights tend to vary largely in cost depending from here and to where you are flying.

Check ctrip for flights, see what you can find.

If you're already established in China, consider booking your flights through wechat.

I'm travelling to Ecuador and Peru in February and since my Canadian money is weak I am wondering if instead of exchanging my money into USD I could bring rolls of Canadian quarters instead. Would store owners, bus drivers and taxi drivers accept this instead of American dollar bills?

I wouldn't think so.

Also, how much weight in coins would you carry to pay for your trip? Excess baggage fees might eat up whatever exchange rate benefit you are after.

Why does everybody deem it necessary to take 20 pictures of everything they encounter?
And worse yet, why do they always have to pose? I don't get it, and it annoys me.

I don't take pictures at all, fuck these people who don't believe you unless you have some pictures of you being somewhere, everything i want to remember i have in my brain.

I like to take pictures of things, but don't like people in them. First time I realized that it may be odd was when my mom saw some pictures I took during a trip in high school, and she said "Looking at these no one would know you were there". I responded with I would know. But that's what made me realize that people pose in pics mail to show other people they were someplace, not to actually a picture of the place for themselves
>>

Nah ur wrong tho.

I would much rather look at a picture of myself and/or friends/family in front of some shit 5, 10, 20 years down the line than to look at the same picture i could look at on google with no one in it. Its fun to see what you looked like and how you were acting back in the day. Most of my pictures hardly anyone is even going to see other than myself.

Thats not too say you cant take dope pictures without anyone you know or yourself in them. But those are usually odd photos that captured something unusual or something typical yet interesting about the culture that you wouldnt see anywhere else, rather than some boring monument.

Maybe its vain to want to see myself in photos, or maybe youre just ugly.

Ofc you are gonna remember important shit, but you arent gonna remember every detail and those can be fun to look back on.

I usually just take phone pictures tho, bc why am i gonna lug a fat ass camera around when a phone pic is just as good unless you work for nat geo

This is a photo of a Torta Guacamaya.

Tortas are just sandwiches made in Mexico. I had them all over the place. I've seen a few different versions but the one with roasted pork meat was probably most common. They were all awesome. Until I made it to Guanajuato and tried this one. This one wasn't just awesome, it was one of the best things I've ever eaten.

First of all, they person just made a regular sandwich with some roasted pork head meat. Lots of fatty bits in there. Then they started putting in pieces of chicharron in there. They just kept stuffing it and stuffing it to the point where it was no longer possible to bite it without pulling out some of the pieces of fried pork skin. Everything was covered in the best salsa I've ever had in my life and one I will likely never eat again. The person who made it said it was made with 7 different chilies some of which were local. It's pictured in the back. Avocado was in there as well somewhere but seriously, it's all about the chicharron and salsa in this one.

Let's share some fun travel shows. I've watched all of the episodes for this particular one. These two guys go on a hitch hiking/couch surfing trip to SE Asia on a $1000 budget each. Any similar youtube/other video site links would be appreciated!

So how celebrated is Canada Day in Montreal? I know Quebec has a questionable relationship with the rest of Canada, but will there at least be some sort of celebration? I'm heading to Montreal from June 26th - July 6th and staying at the M Montreal hostel and just wanted to know if there will be stuff to do on July 1st.

Speaking of Montreal,

any restaurants I can try out to get the Canadian experience?

Any places to check out?

Is there a train that I can take from Montreal to Quebec City or Toronto for a day or two?

What clubs should I look into?

Any pub crawls I should look into?

Any places outside of Montreal I should check and how to get there?

It's still Canada, bro. Not some angry Uighur village in farflung China. Yes, there will be plenty of events. Only the buttmaddest of Quebec nationalists will stay away, and we're all the better for that!

Yes there are restaurants and 'places' to check out. As it seems like you've done zero research and expressed no interestes, I'm gonna skip replying to that until you give us more to work with.

Yes, there are trains (Via Rail), and busses too. Quebec city is a "day or two" kind of place, Toronto you'll need at least 3-4 days.
>inb4 buttmadd bitchfest about Toronto vs Montreal
>>
>>1076871
>Quebec has a questionable relationship with the rest of Canada

Easy far over-stated. Actual hostility to Canada is very rare; it's a matter of competing allegiances. More analogous to, say, Texas than Turkistan or whatever you have in mind.

But Ottawa is really the place to be for Canada Day, and it's close to Montreal. Also IIRC Canada Day is "moving day" in Montreal so a lot of people are occupied with that (leases run out / start then for whatever reason).

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-06-05/barcelona-s-mayor-to-tourists-go-away

Lately there s been some talking in Spain about how to restrict or control in some way the flux of tourists that invade Barcelona.

The new mayor, who has a social activist background, wants to limit new hotel licensing and does not like AirBnB,

I am not from Barcelona and I dont particularly like the new mayor but I kind of support all these measures.

I ve been to Barcelona several times and it just gets worse every time I go. If I was a Barcelona habitant I would certainly be pissed off and I would feel like an outsider in my own city.

Las Ramblas has no charm left whatsoever. Drunk anglosaxons invade the whole city. La Boqueria is a shithole, completely ruined. The bottom line is that Barcelona is not an enjoyable city anymore. In the other hand, many bussinesses depend on tourism and this might cause some unemployment, but I think massification will have worse effects in the long term.

What does /trv/ think about massified tourism? What do you think about this kind of measures?

Barcelona is just an example but we could talk about Venice, Rome, Paris, Hong Kong...
26 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
Catalan here. I support it. We should extend the same kind of measures to all kinds of tourism. Generally speaking the mediterranean coast of Spain is an example on how you should not develop tourism. Barcelona is still ok but is going the wrong direction. I'm glad we are tackling this problem now.
>>

What are the major complains from Barcelona residents?
>>
>>1076372
you name it. Drunk chavs everywhere 7 days a week, real estate prices ever on the rise, all the bad side of gentrification, people walking around the city as if it was a caribbean resort, traditional shops closing, prostitutes everywhere tourists are, not being able to enjoy some parts of the city without the crowds, and I could go on and on

How's this country? I rarely hear of people visiting it. I have always been interested in MENA countries, particularly ones around the Maghreb part of Africa (namely North Morocco, Algeria, Libya, and Tunisia). I'm curious about visiting this obscure little country Algeria. How will a 18 year old girl like me do there ? Is it safe? What can I do?

And most importantly.. are there QT boys to ogle at?

The Delhi Belly meme is really exaggerated. Don't eat off the street if it wasn't cooked right before your eyes, and don't eat at really dingy looking restaurants. Guts need time to acclimatize it's true, but having some fucking standards of hygiene goes a long way.

Anyway, I'd not visit more than one city in Rajasthan/Gujarat. They're all the same ... desert scrub scenery, camels, skinny Indians with turbans.

Consider adding Amritsar (Golden Temple is cool, Sikhs are based, Punjabi food is fattening and delicious) and Aurangabad (Ajantha and Elora are amazing).

Don't spend any longer in Agra than you need to see the Taj Mahal. If you can, plan it so that you arrive early in the day, hustle over to the Taj Mahal, spend a few hours as necessary, and then get the fuck out.
