I will be heading to Singapore and Malacca in July.

Looking for things to do that aren't the same boring tourist things that come up on every site when you google 'things to do in x'.

I want to get off the tourist path as much as possible, see what the local see, etc...

Hi /trv/ I really want to travel but I get horrible anxiety on planes and being far away from my flat. I have travelled in the past when I was younger (20 I am 25 now) but have not travelled since I did a big solo trip to indonesia when I was 20. For whatever reason I developed anxiety when I flew and became anxious being far away from my flat and it has really put me off. I since havent been out of the country and only done small 1.5 hour max flights. To make things worse I live in New Zealand so any where I want to go there is no option of just driving back or something and the closest country (australia) is 3 hours away.

Has anyone had anything similar? How did you over come it?

It fucking sucks I just want to travel around the world meeting cuties but the what ifs put me off. I always worry that I will be so anxious that I wont be able to move or that I cant breath when I get over to a new place or something its fucking retarded and I know it is but unfortunately reasoning isnt very effective. Its so bad that I have a job offer that would require me to fly to sydney twice in the next year but I am put off taking it just because of being anxious.

The what ifs scare me too, so I just started doing short trips that last a week, and am going to SEA in September, along with seeing a doctor about anxiety. Just worried once I get somewhere completely different I'll panic and won't be able to navigate.

Depending on where you go, you may be able to take some medication. I'm 23 and pretty jealous of people who traveled at 18-22 so keep your head up.

>Has anyone had anything similar?
Still do.
>How did you over come it?
Obviously it can't really apply to you since you're from NZ but now I do road trips almost exclusively and I love it. Living in North America does help.
>>
>>1128591
That was my plan just doing short trips to places that are short flights away and having some xanax or some shit and enough money to fly back if I fuck out majorly. Or as lame as it sounds travelling with my parents for support

How do you guys handle being sick while traveling? I'm 3 days into a 2 month trip and I've caught a pretty nasty cold. So I'm currently laying on my bed at an estonian hostel being miserable?

I feel like shit, I don't want to lay around all day but I want to get over this thing ASAP. Going to venture out to a supermarket and a pharmacy in a bit to pick some stuff up? What "on the shelf meds" can you get in Europe for colds? Can you get psuedophedrine here? Please help, or share or own stories of traveling while sick.

Who cares.
>>
Europe isn't a single country, so the availability & brand names vary. Plenty of OTC stuff though.

Go to pharmacy, try English. If it doesn't work just make a coughing gesture at the people and they'll give you stuff.

I haven't gotten sick. Make sure to eat properly, dress accordingly and you'll be fine.

Good luck getting a work permit anywhere in Europe if you don't have a EU passport.

Ireland is almost the only European country (perhaps even the only European country? I know we have very few) that has a Working Holiday Visa agreement with the US, so that may be the place to start:

Hola,

I'm traveling to Delft for a week then I have another week to travel around a bit. Best places to eat, see, or just hang out in Delft?

I've been to Amsterdam once for a few days and I'll probably go back there.

Just looking for any general information or suggestions.

mfw Frankfurt Airport closes by 11pm and we can't take off again
mfw anyone from the staff is left to unload the luggage
mfw we arrive in the hotel at 2am
mfw we have to get up at fucking 7am to go to the Airport again
mfw I get to know I got rebooked on a flight at 6pm (could have slept so much longer)
mfw I got rebooked on Turkish
mfw Etihad doesn't want pay the compensation (They offered 30.000 miles instead. They finally paid after 18 months)
mfw I realise Ethiad is the Ryanair of long haul flights

Fuck Etihad.

Oh, and getting being rebooked for a Turkish flight was a blessing after all. Some of the passengers were put in the very plane from the night before which was scheduled to start at 2pm and still parked at the gate when we took off at 6pm.

I was looking at travelling to either of these countries and wanted some advice for anyone whose been or knows about these two countries.

I will be going with a friend and was looking for somewhere that we would be able to go out at night as well as do a lot of adventurous stuff. Stuff like trekking, any water sports, quad biking, camel riding if possible.

Also somewhere where the food is nice and the people are relaxed and friendly. I went to Morocco and did not like the constant hassling from the natives to buy their stuff.

Any advice? Thanks in advance

Currently with the situation of Lebanon, don't recommend it. If you do go, they cook some nice food.
Jordan is the pearl of the Middle Eaast. Loevyl place for westerners. Visit Ammam for almost all of your needs (but remember they are muslim so no alcohol :[ )
also visit the dead sea, notorious for many reasons, petra because its a beautiful ancient city, mujib desert (wadi mujib) which is basically grand canyon but jordan style.dana is a good nature reserve if you enjoy hikes. jerash is also nice place to visit. we are kind people, no harassment. for food, make sure you eat mansaf in bedouin gathering in desert, best dish ever i promise you.
thats all i have my friend, sorry :)
>>
>>1127344
I found plenty of alcohol in Amman. They have a sizeable Christian majority, who run bars and liquor shops

I think in most middle east countries you will get harassed to buy things, it's just something you have to deal with.

I spent 3 days in Jordan and I wish I spent more time there; the people are super cool, friendly and polite; in hotels and in restaurants the service is excellent they can't do enough for you.

I went to Amman, Jerash and Petra

I'm going to Taiwan for the whole month of July.

I want to do some hiking (snow mountain, taroko gorge and maybe yushan) but the permit application seems almost impossible to do. They ask for experience in taiwanese mountain hikes and a certificate???

Does anyone have experience in getting the permit?

Also Taiwan general since I don't see one.

Take a look here

If you're open to other mountains, Shoushan in Kaohsiung, Alishan in Chiayi, Elephant Mountain in Taipei, Baiguoshan in Yuanlin are all options

not OP but the china thread derailed into /pol/itics, thinking of visiting wuyi a few days then going to xiamen and getting the ferry to taiwan, is this feasible, what other options do I have instead of the taiwan route? Tea is a major motivation of the trip, i'm there for 13 days total(1-13 september) but can be more depending on other ideas I might have
>>
>>1124345
Not sure how much of a hassle it is to come over from China by ferry, flight seems much easier.

Teawise,Taiwan is awesome.

There's a place in Miaoli. http://globalteahut.org/

Alishan and other mountains have high altitude teas. Tieguanyin is widely available.

Ok guys I need to learn spanish this summer. I spend hours every day driving.

>Anyone here used one and can recommend?
I can't recommend one, but what I would do is check out some from my local library. As technology grew, the lockdown on priced programs skyrocketed, but schools and businesses both had to produce audio cassettes and CDs for decades before that. FREE and probably a great selection. Old Berlitz and whatnot, it's not like the language changed it up much over the years. You might even get better/classier accents to emulate than more modern versions.
>>
That is a really good idea.
Was hoping for something already in digital format but will keep this idea as an option
>>
How fast can someone learn a new language ?]
Is it worth it just for travel ?

Want to visit Italy but I'm not sure whether to visit Venice and Florence, Rome or Naples and Sicily?

Any advice on what I can expect from each?

>Rome & Venice
Top 10 places in the world to visit in your life
>Florence
If you bring someone with you (someone you love maybe), it might be even better than Vanice
>Sicily
Depends where. But, anyway, it's summer! Find a nice place with a beautiful environment near the sea (a lot to find on the web)
>Naples
Nothing special to see. Of course, people from Naples will tell you it's a beautiful city, but it's not. Maybe it was a lot of time ago. But not now. Avoid Naples, do it for yourself.
>>
Venice and Florence are tier 1.
Rome was on that level but is sloping down to Naples level, which is tier 3.
Sicily is summer holiday seaside vacation tier.

Hey guys,

Going interrailing next week, and I'm just making sure, when it comes to reserving the trains, I can just do it at the train station a day before or so, right?

Also, the first trip out of UK, will that need to be reserved, or would we be able to get to the train station in London and hop on a train?

TL;DR How do people interrail if they haven't reserved in advance and want a flexible schedule?
6 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Yes you can reserv one minute before if theres any space on the train
>>
I don't think you interrail pass supports going out of the country you bought it in but you can always say you're a tourist and came to the uk by plane and start your interrail journey from there
>>
>>1128881
Yes. But realistically, is this possible?
