Visit Kangaroo Island between Australia and Tasmania.

Have you tasted kangaroo milk before? It's a true treat, especially iced. Far more vitamins than cow's milk.

>Planning on going on holiday in Europe in August

>I've been to Cyprus, and nearly all of the Canary Islands multiple times already.
>Been looking at Crete and Corfu recently

Not sure why but from most of the pictures I've seen of Crete/Corfu it seems really dried out. The towns/cities seem poor, not really modern and not really old looking either. From the hotels I've seen, they're pretty much the same thing, there's a couple of nice looking ones but they're either in the middle of nowhere or are insanely expensive. The pictures of the actual terrain and water look pretty shit too, not as green and blueish as the Canary Islands imo.

>Where would /trv/ recommend me to go to?
I only said Europe because I'm going during August so the prices are insanely stupid, and my budget is only £700-800 all together per person on All-Inclusive basis. If it was during off-season I'd definately go elsewhere for the same price but I don't really have a choice.

What type of computer should I bring on my travels abroad? It will mainly be for researching things to do, places to eat, and booking airbnb/hostels/hotels, and storing photos. Maybe some media consumption on the trains if I have wi-fi around.

I was thinking a cheap chromebook might work well, or could I do this all on a smartphone? What about a tablet? Keyboard+tablet?
25 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Smartphone will get you there. If you really want the keyboard and screen estate, get a laptop. If you're traveling for extended periods , battery life is your main feature. So probably no larger than 14.1 inch to save on screen consumption and low power parts.
>>
Are you concerned with how much weight you're carrying? What about personal information security?

Consider what would be easier to lock down in a case your shit gets stolen. A lost computer is the fastest way to lose your identity.

I suggest a tablet because it's lighter and There's no HDD to take out that contains your data. A lot of tablets have a built-in cellular data connection you can use so that if your tablet does get lost you can locate it or remotely wipe it. Without it having access to the Internet it can't be remotely wiped.

Where the fuck is your data then? Obviously they can get it if they steal the whole thing.

Is this worth it? I know someone who has a member of OneWord and uses their card. And it seems he flies business class like every other flight with the amount of points he has.

only reason I'm looking at United is because I live next to a UA Hub.

Is your credit score good? If you're able to avoid getting into credit card debt, then do it. Making your minimum spending gets you a shitload of miles. United's shit though, so if you're looking for flexibility then I suggest getting the Chase Sapphire card. You'll be able to try different airlines without the guilt of missing out on those awesome miles.
>>
>>1126271

Wait. Explain this Chase Sapphire card to me..

Yeah I have good credit.
>>
>>1126275
> 50,000 reward points that can be converted to miles upon spending $4k within 90 days
> Double points from spending it on food, drinks, and trips (that includes Lyft fyi) without any foreign transaction fees
> $95 annual fee is nothing if you have good credit
> Points can be used for flights on BA, Korean, Singapore, United, and Virgin, as well as Hyatt and Marriott hotels

So long as you keep up with the payments, you'll be able to travel quite well fairly quickly.

i'm in the planning stages of a trip up The Pacific Coast that I'll be making in August. I'm moving from Las Vegas to Spokane, Washington with my wife and we decided to take the very scenic route, and the Pacific Coast Highway is a trip that we've both wanted to do for a while.

I've figured out most of the stops along the way, have some couches to crash on, but I still haven't found a place to stop on the coast in Northern California. Talking to people from around there, apparently I'm not likely to, so I'll probably end up camping out that night, but I still expect a phenomenal road trip.

Right now i'm preparing my 1991 geo metro for the trip. I'm going to be going to a shop with some friends and doing some maintenance, and probably looking at the engine to make sure it can handle the whole trip.

Are you on a tight schedule? Aside from the usual cities, make sure you go to Redwood National Park which is right on your itinerary. If you have time to kill head up to Sequoia and Yosemite NP's.
>>
>>1125345
A little bit. There's not going to be any rush on our part, but we want to be done with the trip in about a week. We're going to be running on a budget of around $500, for 2 people, for gas and food, and I figure by around Newport, we might be running low, and that'll decide what the last leg of our trip looks like, whether we just cut through washington directly to spokane, or take the scenic route through northern washington.

Definitely going to stop through Redwood Natl Park.

The last stop on the coast is going to be Westport, Washington, before we cut inland. We've got a friend there that we're going to crash with before the last leg through washington.

Hey guys,

I'm on a budget right now, but my girlfriend and me still want to go on a either a short city or beach vacation in July. Our budget is 150-200€ per person (including everything). We live in Germany and due to our central location, we can get to most of the touristic places in Europa for about 40-50€. Our stay should be around 3 and 7 days and we're open-minded to nearly everything.

Some destinations we've thought about are Barcelona, Rome, Venecia, Paris or some Greek islands, but feel free to suggest other places. We're interested in basic sightseeing, but also going off the path into less touristic areas. Also, we're both into photography (especially street and architecture).

TL;DR: you're still welcome to ask own questions about budget travelling in Europe!

I hope someone can help us out a bit. Cheers!

That's a damn small budget.
Barcelona, Rome, Venice, Paris, greek islands are all out of the question as you need at least 50€ per day and person even on a wild camping budget to have not a total hobo tier trip.

Suggestions are: Go to the east:
Poland (Gdansk, Warsaw etc)
Black Sea
Even Balkan should be doable.
comfy on a 20-30€ budget per day needed including hostel and eating out.
>>
>>1124593
Thank you for your fast reply. As I said, we maybe just want to stay for 3 or 4 days, not necessarily a whole week.

I was in Prague last month for four days and paid ~ 150€ overall. That's what I thought we could arrange also in another city. I think, when living at a cheap hostel and cooking on your own, we can get through the day for about 30€ per person, if necessary. But you're right, that would be very modest.

Thank you for the other suggestions. We're not that interested in Poland, but didn't think about the Balkan at all until now. We've been to Croatia already, but I'd love to go a bit further - so thank you, I really appreciate your suggestions.
>>
Bulgaria is the solution, my friend.
5 days of very good conditions (hostel+food&entertainment) is plausible.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primorsko
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsarevo

These are your best bets (Tsarevo's pics are shite on wiki, google image it) as they are within your budget. You an do Varna and Burgas, Golden Sands, Albena, etc but your budget will stretch. I recommend Primorsko. Plus with day trips you can go in the expensive places, just not sleep there.

Hey /trv/, I'll be going on few weeks trip soon but I don't have the bag for my camera.

What bag should I buy for my 650d Canon that fits nicely and safely in Farpoint 40l?

What bags do YOU use while travelling with your camera?

Does no one here travel with 1 packpack and carrying DSLR or no one wants to answer me?

Ugh, guys...I need to find some smaller bag to carry my canon that fits in farpoint 40l.
>>
>>1128154
Hey so... what i would recommend you is to get a small, cheap "boxy" camera bag that can also work as an insert for a larger pack.

I have a small Lowepro Event Messenger, and I use it as an insert in my 25L daypack, as having two bags is too cumbersome. Takes up about 1/3 of the available space, but the camera is well protected.

I am thinking of buying a Thule camera backpack. They have place for the tripod, and use an insert-based system so you can also use them as regular backpacks by removing the camera stuff. They also don't look like a typical camera bag... but as everything swedish, it's expensive.

I ditched my lowepro (space for DSLR, lens, lots of small accessories) for a bag like the picture, but smaller. I think it's meant for a mirrorless or point and shoot. I spent literally hours in a japanese camera shop trying to get the smallest I could manage

It's a squeeze to even get the DSLR in there, and I use a carabiner attached with a little lens bag. So all I have is camera + kit lens, extra lens and maybe a spare battery or filter

It's not ideal but I couldn't deal with having a larger bag and trying to stuff it in with my main pack. It fits reasonably into my daybag considering the lens bag being seperate.

It's just compromises, there's no easy way out. I'd like to take more gear comfortably but I'm trying to stick to carry-on, 30L (I'm planning on getting a farpoint 40 at some point)

>tl;dr suddenly changing cultures, location, job, etc. while you're still young

So let me start off with my backstory. I'm 28, single, house, dog, good full time job. Things have been 95% the same for me the last 2-4 years. I realized that the way things are going I'm going to wake up tomorrow and be 40 and in relatively the same place.

I'm just beginning to toy around with the idea of a big change. I'm from the US and I'm talking about moving to a country with a decent to big culture shock. I wouldn't be interested in like the UK or AUS. My biggest hurdle is that I don't have any desirable assets working for me and because of that this post is most likely as far as I go with this idea. I don't speak any other languages and I'm a tier 2 support technician for a managed IT service provider so I'm nothing special by any means (in the eyes of an abroad employer.)

So really I'm just looking for stories of people who made a big change. I would absolutely LOVE to spend several years in another country like Japan or Switzerland or something. So, if you've done this tell me your story, experience, obstacles, etc.

Just find an employer that allows you to work from abroad.

I am a digital nomad myself. It is not ideal, but anytime I get fed up, I change country.

Just make sure to never run out of money: Always keep a buffer.

I just started working after university and I fucking hate it.

I hate the sad cunts causing problems for colleagues because their life is boring, the people stuck in this shitty town who think there's nothing else out there, the shit mundane tasks that I do.

I need to get out and travel, but I'm already 22 and would need to save until about 23/24.

When do I become so old that I'll look odd in hostels and start looking like a bit of a loser?

I feel it's already creeping in. I'm also a little scared that I'll come back and be fucked with no job.
