I'm going to Israel for two weeks. No religious reason, just want to visit because why not.

Tel Aviv - Jeruzalem - Haiva (+ more?)

Any tips on where to go, what (not) to do?
Any behavioral tips?
Tips in general are apprecciated

I did the same and had a blast. I'm not religious but I'm into history and anthropology. I would change haifa for Akko though. I visited the Nimrod fortress in the golan heights and was pretty cool and empty.

That's in Iraq, if you went there you got your ass blown up.

Same here

Why akko over haifa?
What kind of trip is nimrod? Hike adventure or just nature?

Me and my three friends (we're all Asian and female from Cali) will be backpacking and traveling around Europe for three months. Will the fact that we are Asian and female make us easy targets for people trying to harm us? I assume we will somewhat stand out from the crowd.

You will stand out because you are obviously tourists. It will make you a prime target for pickpockets.
>>
> I assume we will somewhat stand out from the crowd.
>Thinking you're a special snow flake because you have slanty eyes and a vagina.

Europe is a melting pot of different ethnicities. No one will bat an eyelid. Of course, it would help if you told us what parts of Europe you're going to. You're more likely to stand out in Eastern Europe to Western Europe for example.
>>
>>1130021
From the moment you step foot on the plane the cabin crew will give a nudge nudge wink wink and the word will go out in europe for anyone wanting to order chinese take-out

once landed you'll be drugged and taken to the local whore house in europe where you will begin a life of servitude being sold to highest bidder each night

suitable replacement similar looking mongols will be brought in from asia and sent home to your parents

hello /trv/
i want to move about for a while and think by myself.

my question is: is it a real thing to go to the airport and ask the staff to suggest you one of the cheapest tickets currently available,to any destination? Can I get a cheap flight, like by filling the last seat of a plane that's just about to leave?
I'm in quebec, canada
for context, I dont intend on spending much but I have enough money in bank (18k) to move around for a little time. I would like to visit other continents. I'm open to trans-oceanic boat alternatives too.

ty for your time

I suppose it doesn't hurt to ask, but if you really don't care where your destination is, I bet it's possible to find tickets for the same low prices online.

What I dream of is to one day just hop on a train/bus which leads mot SOMEWHERE. And then just go with the flow. I have the money. First I'm just gonna get /fit/ and complete nursing school. Then I'll take the next flight to SOMEWHERE.

The goal is to find the unknown - Anon
>>
>>1129726

>ask the staff

I think that would have worked a few years back, but nowadays they'll most likely look at you with wide eyes like you're a fucking retard for not knowing how to use the internet (google.com/flights).

feeling lost traveller need help from travel mates.
>19 years from germany
>8 month in new zealand, now since 5 weeks in australia , townsville
>smoking weed since 2 1/2 month every day
>working for accommodation+ food. i spent 200$ a week for weed
> budge 2300 euro left from heritage

guys i need your help. i dont know what to do in my life. basically i life good, friends, new people, my farm is nice... but i dont know i feel lost somehow. 3 of my best mates went home for some reason, they start studying this year.. and I ? i want to stay 12 month in australia and then south america! but i miss in my life a goal, .. something i can live for ..
do you have any ideas?
its so hard to find words for that ..i hope you can understand
are there some travellers who feel the same?

Stop smoking so much in the first place, you're gonna waste your life. Go back home, work and find some direction, you sound like you've travelled enough for a while. 2300€ is not enough to sustain drug-fueled aimless wandering for very long...
>>
I got lazy back then and went home instead of starting to work on a farm again.
Ever since I left Australia and came back to germany I knew I want and will come back to Australia.
I'm currently doing an apprenticeship (mechatronics) worth three years of education at work and in school.
I am planning to leave Germany with that "certificate" of being a certified german electronics/mechanics/IT-guy.

Why not sit down and think about what where you would like to be in ten years time and what you have to do to achieve that?
Also think about your own strength and weaknesses. You need to reflect a lot.

Don't rush decisions. You might not make the right decision right now and you will think about that decision when you're older but you can always go back. Mistakes are made so you can learn from them.

Good luck, maybe we meet in Australia some day
>>
>>1128395
If you're smoking 200$ worth of weed a week, either you should try and smoke less, or just get a new supplier where you get more for your money. That's the first thing to do.
When you're down there, you should just enjoy life, and if it's possible then make a plan to save up for south america, you can't go there if you spend all your money on overpriced weed in aussie

Travelling is great and it does come with some pitfalls, but to some there's a certain kind of education in the phenomenon of travelling for years with a backpack, some companies actually find that as a good thing on your personal resume...

But shortly I'll just tell you, that it's a hard thing to decide what to do, especially at age 19 and when you're already out in the big world then you're set for now, don't rush into thinking about getting educated, the development that comes from travelling might make you want not to even have any specific area of expertize.

Am 30 years old, and have the opportunity to go work a year in either Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Taiwan. Honestly, it's between NZ and Canada at the moment. NZ because it's literally on the other side of the world, but it's an island, and actually pretty expensive. Canada is huge, and it has the US as a neighbour (I love travelling the US and Canada), so it has more 'opportunities' I guess? Australia used to have a romantic image for me but I'm not really attracted to loud people, racism and fucking dog sized bugs.
Taiwan, meh.

I will go there solo.

tl;dr go to NZ, Australia or Canada for a year to work/play?

I'm Canadian living in nz for the last 4 and a half months. Its fucking waaaaay overrated. I really want to go back home. Mind you 90% of Canada is shit. So home for me is downtown Toronto, whereas everything outside of it is shitty. It's up to preference. Auckland is the worst place on earth, and the rest of nz is countryside fuckwits. Beer and drugs are expensive. And northland mostly looks the same. Nice countryside but gets boring after a month. South island is cool, but still only towns, Dunedin is great, unless you like farming and bored to death. Nz is not worth it

I'm from the states and I got to stay with an amazing host family in Germany. Both me and my friend are 18 and our host "parents" are a childless couple in their mid-30s. Is it ok if I keep in touch with them? Nobody in my social circle is from that generation (except for family members of course). I don't know if cross-generation friendships are odd.

How do I explore the World, or at least travel my own country (USA) if I have a full time job with only 2 weeks of vacation? I'd love to venture to either Cali or to Hawaii. What do.

Avoid major responsibilities in life such as kids. Don't get loans, don't owe money you can't pay back immediately. You get a job and live under your means, save up, quit your job and travel.

Easy.

Match vacation up with holidays to extend that 2 weeks. Break up that 2 weeks for two trips. Travel within your region on holidays. Negotiate for more vacation days, vice, or in addition to, a raise when the time comes.

You my initial advice, 4th of July is on a Monday, if you started a vacation this Friday when you left work, then you have 10 days for vacation. Also it's advantageous for someone in your situation to do packaged tours. www.gate1travel.com has a bunch of reasonable ones which include free days in the area you are in. Also Groupon has a lot. In fact, I found gate 1 on Groupon. To use the ever so popular Thailand as an example. Gate1 has a 10 day central Thailand tour for as low as $1199 with air. That includes your travel days. $629 without air.

>posting this from my cubicle

But I actually get a month off each year, stackable, but you can't enter a new year with more than 60 days. I am actually going to lose a couple days this year. I was planning on flying out to California around the 4th, but just got put on a big project that lasts 3 months. Already bought the tickets. Thank goodness for travel insurance. Doing the 9 day in November, but staying for an extra 2 weeks on my own.

What is the best island that can be visited and why?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Palau if you want ALL OUT scuba bonanza.

But if you still want reslly good scuba with lots of rich culture and land based things to see, I would have to say Fiji.

Hawaii is also another good group of islands. They are relatively close, not too expensive to hop between, each island offers its own little unique environments to explore.

Which is your favorite hawaiian island for culture, and which for snorkeling?

I've only been to Maui and the Big Island, I think I like Maui more.
>>
>>1131341
For culture, It really depends what you consider "culture".

I would say Oahu, although filled with meme tourists, has some amazing restaurants and night life.

For snorkeling, I'm not really sure because I scuba, so I dont know which areas are and aren't accessible to snorkelers.

Kaui has the best scuba IMO.

There is a place called forbidden island with rare hawaiian monk seals, lots of big ass sharks, walls of coral.

This stuff still exists off the coast of Oahu bit its a lot deeper. Also, Oahu has some WW2 wreck dives. Some of them are closed off and restricted to respect thr fallen.

I have heard Maui has some good snorkeling but idk for sure...

Is Exofficio the top of the line for travel cloth or are there better brands??

Icebreaker Merino underwear is amazing. I have never been so comfortable. Absolutely worth the 40 bucks.
>>
I like uniqlo's airism boxer briefs. They hold their shape better than ex-officios if you wear them multiple times. And they pack smaller.
>>
I haven't tried any of their other stuff but their boxer briefs are tits. Super comfortable, easy to sink wash, and then dry in a couple hours. They can be found for cheap sometimes on amazon if you scroll through the color options.

My question is, how do I go about leaving and setting up a new life somewhere different without have to go there first?

I live in Michigan as well. It's not that bad. Given that this is a travel board and not an advice forum, I'd suggest that you ask more particular questions and inform us as to your circumstances. I don't see how we'd be able to provide any information when your question seems to be so vague and open-ended as, "I don't like my life but I have no listed skills or qualifications. How do I go about moving and finding a new job?"

I don't think /trv/ is the right place for that question.

I live in a temperate climate and have trouble adjusting to the heat.

I will be going to China this summer.

Are there any tips you can give me?

light clothing, linen shirts will keep you cool. Heavy clothes like denim will make you feel much warmer than shorts made of some technical fabric

swallow ice for a quick cool-down

don't go out during the hottest part of the day (usually 12:00-2:00)

uh, use a fan?

Hello /trv/,

I am doing a road-trip through the southern USA from 27 August to 13 September, starting in Houston and ending in Miami.

My itinerary is something like: Houston->Lafayette->Baton Rouge->New Orleans->Memphis->Nashville->Atlanta->Charleston->Daytona->Orlando->Miami.

It includes a fair bit of driving, as you can see, but that is what me and my friends are looking for. To get a real feel for the culture/food of the southern US.

Do you guys have any recommendation around this area? Maybe some hidden gem along the road that might be easy to miss but worthy of a detour? My plans are still pretty flexible at this stage.

I've lived in the southeast most of my life, so maybe I can help a little. First off, if you've looking for good food, you're in luck; the southeast has the best food of anywhere in the country. Especially BBQ. Try BBQ in every state if you can; they all have different styles. Particularly, there's a BBQ place in Macon, GA called Fresh Air BBQ that's one of my favorite places. Also, in a town called Forsyth, GA (about 45 minutes south of Atlanta on I-75), there's a restaurant called the Grits Cafe, which is a "southern casual fine dining" restaurant. Some of the best food I've ever eaten came from there (I worked there for a few years). Go if you're in the area, and get the lamb chops or seared tuna if they have them.

You might catch the leaves turning in the mountains at that time, which would be cool. The drive through TN is fun and very pretty. The GA aquarium is a nice place to visit. I've found that AR, MS, AL, and OK are pretty boring. If you're into the bar scene, Athens, GA has the craziest one I've ever seen because of UGA being there. If you're looking for beaches, Destin FL is great. Lots of good forests and hiking in the southeast, too, but I don't have any specifically to recommend.

Have fun!
>>
>>1130433
You won't find much to do in Baton Rouge, don't stay very long and just keep driving through to New Orleans. If you insist on seeing something, spend an afternoon downtown but no longer.

t. Lived here all my life
>>
On your way down from Nashville I'd recommend checking out Asheville, NC. Neat little town in the mountains full of hippies. Good bars though.

Also I'd almost suggest going to Savannah, GA over Charleston but I suppose that depends on what you want to do. Savannah has open container laws downtown making it a great city to drink in, with historic bars right along the river front. Many a good night there eating good seafood and throwing back Jameson in bars as old as our country.
