I am a girl from Germany who will visit he states this summer, the country where my male online friend lives in. Known him for 2.5 years and have video skyped with him. I want to meet him irl for the first time when we are there, but he doesn't seem to want to meet me. The reasons? He thinks his family members will distrust me a lot because we met online and he doesn't want people to think that he was online dating me.
He is an 18-year-old who just graduated from high school when I will turn 20 soon. He doesn't seem to want to meet me (although he said he will "try his best" to get things sorted out). I feel really disappointed - I can't help but think I value this friendship much more than he does. I be like flying to another continent which happens to be his homeland and he be like "we're not meeting as my family members will distrust you".
What should I do about this situation and how to feel better about this?
>inb4 you were catfished, I bet you want a relationship with him, etc
>>1125252
Is your name "Michael"?
He should come to you.
>>1125257
I am a girl so my name is not Michael?
He cannot afford flying to Europe. He has never been outside of North America.
>>1125257
Dont reply to this b8 thread, "she" posts it every week. Just sage, report and move on
Hi. I am coming from Japan back to EU. I will touch in Turkey first; then land in Italy although I am from Austria. My passport is stapled with invoices from Japanese retailers because I was buying tax free.
Will I have to pay any additional tax once I come to Italy? Can I avoid it? What if I get rid of all these invoices once I land in Turkey?
Nope as its schengen zone.
Australia isn't part of the EU

Sup /trv/, Really want to learn to scuba dive but have no idea of what the best place is for this for me really. Im a White British and was wondering where the best place for it is? only mention this for language barriers etc Thanks!
Maybe start with stating where the fuck on the planet you are? What a sad thread....
>>1130464
A scuba diving school.
Use google.
Go to your local dive shop and get your cert.
Concentrate on how to dive first before getting all worried about where you are going to go.
Places that are the best in the world... Indonesia ( Raja Ampat, Komodo, Lembeh Strait), Palau, Truk Lagoon, Fiji, Galapagos.
But seriously, get at least 20-40 dives in before you go to one of these places or you'll turn out on the news as some idiot diver dying. Some of these places have strong currents and noob diver will have a hard time fighting it.
Literally you if you make your try to dive at one of these exotic places as a noob
>get off dive boat
>descend to 60ft
>chill
>get caught in current
>be a noob
>panic
>150FT deep
>be a noob
>dont check air
>doesnt pay attention to depth
>ascends fast as fuck
>dies from bends
Please, anon. This stories are way too common. Become a decent diver before you decide to to dive trips to "the best places".
There are places like Bahamas, Florida, Mexico, parts of Caribbean that are great for noobs.
Before you hit up Indo, Fiji, Galapagos, Palau, get good at diving at easy places.
I plan on backpacking eastern europe from october-january and just wanted to her from anyone who's done the trip before. The impression i seem to get is places like greece and cities such as varna, budva and hvar tend to be boring outside summer.
Im in my 20s and hope to meet like minded travellers at hostels up for a good time but dont know if they'll be there during this time of the year
Ugh, friend. E. Europe gets snow during those months (realistically, December through March), so going to the beach (Varna, Bourgas, etc) in the middle of a blizzard can be boring, yes.
In Bulgaria, for winter we offer skiing and all other snow-related shenanigans.
Look up Pamporovo (chill, locals go there), Bansko (expensive af, the meme ski place in Bulgaria), Borovets (ez skiing for people from the capital (Sofia) who can take day trips there).
Rhodopa mountains are amazing to look at and stay during heavy snowfall, and I'm sure there's some entertainment value as well, I wouldn't recommend them for something active.
Pic is Koprivshtica.
>>1130391
OP - I'll most likely be in bulgaria while its still autumn though. Pamporovo and Banksko still worth going to during then?
>>1130400
Hey mate, nice dubs.
I would recommend the Pirin mountain region (Bansko) and Rhodopa mountain region, which is adjacent to Pirin (separated by the Mesta river). Seeing the Rila monastery is a must any time of year and golden autumn is no exception.
Attached is what to expect from Rhodopa region. Pirin is more rocky+lakes and mountain lodges. Should be a tad cheaper because it's off season (Ski Season 2015 kicked off on December 12 iirc).
You should get very favourable weather for hiking, hitch-hiking and general outdoors time.
Just got done traveling the country over the past year. Hit all lower 48 states and 23 National Parks and a buncha National Forests, etc. etc. Money started dwindling so I had to settle down somewhere, and Boise is where I ended up.
Any Boise/Treasure Valley fags here have some suggestions of things to do, places to go, etc.? I've done some hiking around the area and have checked out a couple places, but I've been here a week now and need to get out and meet some people and check out the city. Suggestions are very welcome. The town seems pretty awesome and I haven't heard a bad thing about Boise yet, so I'm pumped to be here.
>>1130267
wow that looka so beautiful. shame about the weather though
>>1130274
What you mean? The weather is gonna be one of my fav things about this place. 4 true, distinct seasons. So much better than the southeast where I was living with the humidity and brutal heat for like 7 months of the year.
>>1130277
Id rather enjoy hot summers than brutal winters to be honest. Enjoy the mountans and the view though
hi there
i'm going to be moving to portland before the month is up. i have applied for some jobs and will continue to do so until i move, although i realize that's a long shot until i get there. currently in seattle though, so who knows. i am also looking for a room, but don't imagine that will be any easier to secure from miles away, so i was wondering if you guys had any recommendations on dirt cheap lodging options. preferably pet-friendly as i have a cat. i can try to arrange something else for him temporarily but would prefer to bring him with. i'm going to be on a super tight budget until i find a job (have about a month's worth of pay, like $1600 or maybe a little more depending on how much i can sell before i leave).
any ideas?
I live in SE Portland, I may be able to help you out. My bf and I are trying to take a month-long road trip (appx. July 10-Aug 10th). We are looking to sublet our place for that month. It wouldn't be long term obviously but it would a hell of a lot cheaper than trying to find a place from Seattle, trust me trying to find ANYWHERE to live here is a nightmare. If you're interested maybe we can talk about it. We'd be totally cool with the cat situation.

that would be great! do you want to skype me with more details? delitebrite
>>1130290
just added you, I'm lucent_alchemy. fuck yeah x files!
Someone know the town "Isla Vista" ?
Just next to UCSB (University of Santa Barbara).
I lived in this place but I return in France.
I will come back in US and I search cities like this one with party, girls, university mood ... Someone know a similar city ?
there really isn't another town quite like it, at least not on the west coast.
Really ? Not same town with the same vibes ?
To be honest, the beach is optional for me aha
>>1130078
Not that I know of. Maybe look up a list of college party towns. I don't know if they have the same vibe though, a lot of their parties seem to be hosted by fraternities and such. idk.
What's everyone's experience like with Turkish Airlines?
I'm flying with them from JFK to TLV with a 3 hour layover in IST. Is Turkish Airlines generally dependable, and will 3 hours give me more than enough time to get through all the security checks?
>>1129868
Lufthansa employee here, i work with them every day, cocky assholes. But from FRA at least one can say they are dependable, expect nothing special, they will get you there safely and on time. 3h in IST is enough provided you have no major delays, in wich case you will be rebooked anyways.
fly with them every second week. top service, very professional. you made a good choice, no problem on security checks. best european airline for a reason. please report back with your experiences when youre in tlv. have a nice flight :)
I got through IST within an hour but I don't know if that was a very busy time or not
Got an cheap error fare to Tokyo, was able to reserve window seats both ways on the app, no bullshit, nice ride
Hello travel Board! Next June i will be going to Koh Samui Island (Thailand), will be staying there for 23 days training and drinking. after that i will og from Surat-Thani by plane to Bangkok. when we arrive at Bangkok we will travel to Wat Bang Phra temple to get traditional tattoos and to give offerings (situated 50 minutes from Bangkok).

if you are wondering about all the gun ranges then the answer is that we live in Norway so not alot of guns to shoot here LOL

>>1129841
We're the 2 other SEA generals not good enough for you to ask your question?
Hey guys i'm 20 years old from Australia. I want to backpack Europe in September for at least a month. Ideally i'd go with a mate but they are either busy or don't have money so i'm doing it by myself.
My question is, in your opinion what are the must sees and is there anything that is overrated and I should just skip it to save time?
I would love to see some incredible nature, and just really get outside and experience everything. I am not huge on the whole nightclub scene but any festivals or anything that sound appealing would be great.
Honestly it's pretty broad question
Just what should I do? What shouldn't I do?
I thought best to ask here, everywhere I look online or who I ask just says go to to each capital city and do the tourist things. Which I assume I will do, but i'd love to really venture out and see more than that
Forgot to mention I haven't left Australia other than a family holiday to Thailand a couple years ago. However I am heading to NZ/Samoa in 3 weeks
Do you have at least a vague idea of the countries you want to visit?
>>1129693
i'm from germany
i liked:
Berlin
Amsterdam
Belgrad
Cardiff
Strasbourg
Was dissapointed:
London
Paris
Litarally nothing to do what you cant do anywhere else in germany/france/netherlands:

Is there any way of doing the Iceland ring road trip on the cheap? If you've done it before, how much did you spend? Will cutting corners on prices just ruin the experience?
>>1129668
yes, in March. Perfect time for northern lights. About 12 hours of sunlight. Everything is off season priced and like 80% less tourists.
You can rent a car that is turned into a sleeper car at e.g. www.campervaniceland.com
I don't remember how much I spent. The food and hotels are the most expensive things (after the car, duh), but if you sleep in the camper you can do the ring in like 8 days for about 1400 euro max.
But you need a car in Iceland, trust me. What you don't need is a jeep or 4x4. The ring road is just fine.
>>1129708
1400 Euros for an 8 day trip sounds pretty expensive to me. If that's the cheapest it can be done then, hey, that's life, I just wonder if there's any way to do it cheaper. We're looking to go in July though, so I think either way, it'll be out of our budget - I've had a look at some rental prices for camper vans, and that alone would be too much this time round, I think.
What were your highlights of the trip? Is it definitely worth doing?
>>1130143
Hey, if you do it in summer you have to add another 50-70%.
It IS worth it but you do have to do it on the shoulder season, the amount of idiot asians is already high then, but it can be worse.
Highlights: waterfalls, northern lights, volcanoes, geysers, seals, giant icecubes on the beach, being stranded in a snowstorm, being stuck in volcanic sand.
There aren't a lot of hiking options in Iceland, it doesn't have an extensive network of paths or trails.
Iceland is expensive, there's no way around that. You could try camping and hitchhiking though.
EU citizen here, going to travel to Russia's Far East & China overland trough Ukraine/Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan. Is Eastern Ukraine safe enough to just pass trough there or had I better choose Belarus in this matter?
>>1129158
lugansk and donesk provinces are not safe. (two in the south with border to russia)
the over 3 provinces should be safe
the road through belarus to moscow is better
Belarus is by far more safe than Eastern Ukraine, that being said, going there is not impossible. However, you can't cross from the yellow on your map to the red, at least not legally from either a Ukrainian or Russian viewpoint. If illegally crossing an active frontline is your thing, then sure, go ahead. If not, go to Russia with a double entry visa, go down to Rostov-on-Don, cross into Eastern Ukraine and go to Donetsk and/or Lugansk, then go back. They say you should find someone there to meet you and accompany you, an Interpals-gf for example. A foreigner walking around down there alone will seem suspicious for sure. It's hardly safe, but perfectly doable. Keep in mind, I have never done this, I've just read about it.
Okay, I see that there is some border near the grey region. I'm still more comfortable with going to Belarus, although I will have to pay for visa
Have any of you guys done wwoofing?
Where you essentially work on a farm in a foreign country in exchange for food and lodging.
It seems like a pretty good way to travel on the cheap, and was interested in personal experiences.
Pic unrelated
Yes! It is awesome. Definitely try it, but talk the host for bit first just to make sure they're cool
>>1129089
Where did you stay?
>>1129086
not OP but anyone done Workaway or Helpx?
I am currently staying in rural Japan near Miyoshi, Hiroshima. This has been freaking me out lately, so are Suzumebachi common out here?
>>1129050
Preferably, could someone with experience in them or living in Miyoshi tell me?
>>1129050
Hey, I have little to no experience with them or living in Miyoshi or Japan more generally (to tell you the truth I don't even know what they are and have never even been to Japan). But I will say that they are common in Japan relative to other parts of the world and they are venomous (you are right to be freaked out). My suggested course of action would be to google it or to commit seppuku (Japanese cultural reference).
>>1129050
>Suzumebachi
Is that even it's true form?
Sup /int/
Long story short, my girlfriend and myself are planning on moving to Japan at the beginning of next year, primarily to tutor conversational English.
Basically, I'm curious as to how Japanese people, in general, react to foreigners. Any answers would be appreciated, be it from Japanese locals themselves or from anyone who's had similar experiences. Also, we'll be based in Osaka
Thanks guys.
WAITO PIGGU GO HOMEU
Please take it to the Japan thread in the future, but before people start posting a bunch of distorted or exaggerated nonsense, Japanese people generally treat foreigners with kindness and respect, at least outwardly. They are polite people who hate confrontation (avoiding or ignoring problems is something Japanese are good at) so you should have no problems, especially in a big place like Osaka that has a higher % of foreigners than the countryside or a small town..Japanese people also want foreigners to have a good impression of Japan while they are here so that when those people go home they talk about how great Japan was.
>>1128920
Please don't, just stay in the states, you won't regret it.
