Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. You are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to Steadhold and House Malroy. The year is 285AC, two years after the Rebellion and a year after your return to Westeros.

House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.

If you’ve played one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

Steadhold had quieted in the days after your wedding, much of your time had been spent seeing people off with proper adornment and fanfare. Man of the Reach Lords and Ladies had been kind in their farewells, glad to finally meet the Lord that Ser Dontos Malroy had spoken so highly of in his letters. In truth you hadn’t even known Dontos was writing letters to his past comrades in arms, suppose that is what he did in those hours he spent brooding in his tower. Lord Mathis Rowan had extended an invitation for you to join him in the Tourney of Highgarden, and promised to speak well of your renewed horse stock, though little he knew of it. Either way it was a pleasant sentiment, word spreading into the Reach once more would surely do wonders for your coffers. Lord Raymun Darry and the Riverland Lords were equally courteous, their words instead giving praise to Lady Lysa Tully and her ‘victory’ in the Tourney. Lord Raymun’s tone had given away to you the displeasure in the sentiment, while others felt genuine joy. Even in the years after the Rebellion tempers flared at the most minor of trivial titles, though you could hardly blame them. Obella had become slightly distant in the days following your decision, it was not a distance born of anger you felt, but of distaste of the situation not unlike Lord Raymun’s.

Lady Mellario of Norvos was last to leave her train of Dornishmen and women following shortly after, barring Lord Quentyn Qorgyle and Ser Symon Santagar’s forces of course. This had been the first time Obella had joined you in seeing off your guests, and the entire send off had thus become a rather long and drawn out ordeal, the Dornish were more likely to speak to your wife at length before leaving and it hadn’t been until mid-afternoon that you had finally seen Lady Mellario and the Princess.
>>
You had caught your son riding astride his Redsong next to their train speaking with Princess Arianne from her carriage and had to make a point to shoo him off with a look the closer he got to the front of the castle. You had noted a blown kiss from the window of the carriage as he rode off with that goofy lopsided smile, Isis had laughed when she saw the same, commenting that he was exactly as you were in your youth. In truth you hadn’t remembered starting that early or aspiring to such lofty heights such as Princesses of Dorne, but all the same, you did see yourself in Victus. Obella was quick to wrap up her goodbyes with the Princess consort, whispering quick words to her and sending her off with a hug that entirely unlike the one she had given her mother, Lady Elsa Dayne. Your goodbyes were equally short, few words being exchanged as the Lady Mellario looked tired of the act by this point. Your Household was quick to scatter to the wind once they left the Kingsgate, yet your eyes lingered upon their train for a moment longer for half a moment envying their trip to Norvos before quickly turning on heel and going back into your castle.

Lady Lysa Tully’s departure hadn’t quite been the affair as that had been the day prior, her small entourage of Vale and Rivermen hardly taking more than a few hours to see off. You had spent more time speaking to Ser Stevron Staunton in fact than Lady Tully. He seemed a good sort all in all, for half a moment you considered tempting him away from the King’s service, though it was doubtful you could provide him with the same funding and life of luxury as he enjoyed. He spoke to you of his preference for travel, and promised he would be attending the Tourney in Highgarden, he had wished to challenge your Uncle at some point but was sadly denied the chance. Lady Tully had been brief with her word with you at least, speaking at length with a rather disingenuous Isis, though apparently not so much as to be obvious to Lysa.
>>
She had left her with a delicate hug, and kiss upon either cheek, staying a moment longer to comment how she should not hide her hair. Your heart crackled with a spark of flame, though Isis’ eyes and look had soothed you at least long enough for you to say goodbye. For the most part it had been you reaffirming she would have a proper carriage and escort return in two days to collect your sister and bring her to King’s Landing. She had left you with a rather long look, one that tinged upon want and superiority, you had spent the night attempting to strike the image from your mind and scalding your skin clean of the grimy feeling.

Mason meets you in your stride towards the grand hall, he was holding stacks of papers, charts and maps. Far less organized than Benjin typically was, and when commented upon he fixes you with a flat look, “This is Elionwy’s doing, well most of it rather. She’s taken the extra trust on your end to heart it would seem.”

“In lieu of Benjin I suppose someone must handle the House’s finances,” you remark, “What are the maps for?”

“Reports from Mors, he’s laid out all the information they’ve gathered regarding the Princewood. Dontos wished to holding a military council immediately following the monthly. He intends to ride for Chelsted tomorrow with Lady Alexes and take stock of their forces. With Ser Cyrus’ death he suspects some will be difficult, especially when news reaches them of their marriage.”

You chew on that thought for a moment, it was a rather odd thing all in all, but Dontos had done his duty as he promised. An oath kept by both sides, though your mind still wandered to Dorian and Cecilia in Maidenpool from time to time. Occasionally you caught yourself wondering if you had left any other children fatherless during your years in Essos, an unpleasant thought that you rarely confronted.

>Six years after the “Axis Shock” event

You could almost be forgiven for overlooking the target vessel. Its black metal form is polished to a mirror sheen, so that its profile nearly disappears into the emptiness of interstellar space when you're looking at it with just your unaided eyes. The sole flaw to this camouflage is that it cannot reflect what's beyond it, meaning that the Herbig-Haro object crossing the starfield it's moving through is a dead giveaway. Beautiful, nebulous wisps of ionized gas show up in strikingly enhanced reds and blues and oranges on the viewscreen, ending abruptly at the dorsal edge of the ship's hull and reappearing just as suddenly on the ventral side.

She's adrift in space, and if she has running lights they've been shut off for “dark running”. It's not that there's no power over there, since the emergency transponder is still clearly running, but her current vector and attitude are all wrong. She's practically flying sideways, which is your first indication that something is amiss. More disturbingly, you can feel from here that there isn't a single living crewmember aboard.

So much for a rescue mission.

“What do you think, Carrina?” your partner Rossweisse asks. Seven years on and she still speaks almost as if she needs your approval before acting, despite the fact that you're now of equal rank. She twirls one pale finger amidst her raven-black hair, waiting for your reply.

“That's our target alright,” you frown. “Derelict. We're obliged to investigate.”

“I meant why is she out here,” Rossweisse clarifies. That's a fair question, and one that puzzles you as well. A ship broadcasting a Martian-standard distress signal on the appropriate channels, far outside the usual flightpaths? That demands an explanation.

“Not sure,” you admit, frowning at the mystery ship as she continues to drift towards no particular destination, with no particular sense of urgency. “Bring up the charts and plot the derelict's present course. Let's see if we can't guess where she was heading.”

A dead ship, drifting aimlessly so far from anywhere it should be... you don't have to be a Newtype to sense that this is wrong. It still helps of course, your superior awareness and acuity combining with your “sixth sense” telling you precisely how uncomfortable you should be.

A star chart appears on the main view screen as the image of the derelict outside is moved to a smaller window. Your location and that of the derelict vessel are placed onto the map, and after factoring in the ship's current vector a course is plotted... that doesn't even approach an inhabited planet at any point.

“She must be off course,” Rossweisse frowns.

“We'll lead the team,” you offer, understanding that the only way to learn anything about your mystery ship is to download the navigational data from her main computer. To do that you still have to have physical access, meaning someone has to go over there. “Rossweisse, we'll leave the ship in your hands.”

“Of course,” she nods sternly. “Standard procedure?”

“That's right,” you agree. Standard procedure for your vessel, the "Sericea", and all others like it is to leave one Newtype officer aboard ship at all times. The so-called Axis Shock effect, discovered accidentally by you and your fellow Newtypes six years ago, can only be triggered by the same brainwaves that enable your extraordinary feats.

Without it humanity would still be stuck in the dark ages fighting a war without end over Earth's dwindling resources: and without a Newtype at the helm the Sericea is centuries away from the nearest human colony.

By morning, Sophia has awoken, and is able to eat and drink. However, her gaze is distant, and she refuses to communicate beyond a simple nod or smile.

The City of Neige is in the process of reform, with pockets of resistance still sprouting, only to be quashed by your Hellraisers. Marigold takes great pride in removing the head of every rebel leader, to the point that she becomes known among the Hielonites as the Lady of Pain.

Duncan and Kyle are hard at work gathering information on the city, and the surrounding lands. They know of several dozen forces still holding out against the new regime, but none of them are organized enough to incorporate the others, and nearly all of them are plagued by rivalry and self interest. Duncan believes it will take little more than a unit of minions and a pair of Hellraisers to obliterate each one.

Legion has absorbed a plethora of souls, which has made him even more formidable. This new strength makes him feared among friend and foe, but his loyalty is ever unwavering.

Shen grows restless. His feet itch, and though he takes orders well enough, it's hard to ignore his propensity for bending the rules or causing trouble in order to have a little fun for himself.

Caitlyn and Gilbert are eager to return to work, but are making due studying the rituals and magic of the Hielonite mages, and Caitlyn is especially fond of helping to introduce the mages you have recruited from the colleges into the military.

As you wake this morning, throat parched and stomach slightly ill from the stress, you think on what to do first on this grey, dull day.

Welcome to Academy City. The time is morning, the weather is stuffy, and the date is February 14.

You are Kyril Torikov, Level 3 telekinetic combat cyborg, and you woke up in a hospital bed. Yesterday had you working with Grímsdóttir to bring a serial bomber to justice. It hadn’t been easy. He had set off a good amount of explosives in your face as you were trying to defuse them. You got him back for it though. His limbs would never be the same if Heaven Canceller hadn’t got to him. Somehow you doubted it. Seeing as he wasn’t in immediate danger of death, Anti-Skill had hauled him off to the Reformatory before he even got a trial. You doubted he would get one, or walk out of the Reformatory any time soon.

Still, the encounter had left your body in worse shape than it was. Case in point, this morning’s breakfast was pure liquid soup. Lunch and dinner promised to be the same and far be it from you to dismiss your GP out of hand. You were going to ignore his recommendation of little strenuous activity for the day though. Today was the day of a grand ritual and given the nature of your opposition, you didn’t think you could manage without giving it your all. You and the rest of the Problem Children were going to get Kyouko back.

That said, there was no clear time as to when the ritual was to start. You were only providing a safe location to where it could be conducted. Sagara was to thank for that. Kyousuke as well, though he was responsible for keeping your little financial empire afloat. Teacher was supposed to pop in later today as well, if only to lend his not insignificant muscle to the whole affair. Strong as you were, you doubted you could take on a so-called Magic God, even at your best. Thus it was a pleasant surprise that someone came to pick you up.

It was,

Your target, Hurricane Wren, has spent the better part of a week massacring her way across the French countryside. And now, here she is, kneeling at your feet (with your severed arm close by), looking up at you with lucidity for the first time.

"Yeah," you finally say at length. "Yeah, it did."

Wren closes her eyes, as your remaining arm whines and sparks, trying to raise your buster to keep it on her.

"Not again."

For lack of anything to say, watching the figure who has sown death and terror wilt and diminish before you, you key your comms. "Rosé, Blanc, Wren is down. She's..." you look up at her again. "You should surrender."

"We're on the way," Rosé comms.

She examines the knife in her hand, turning it over before letting it dim, tossing it lightly aside. "I don't want to surrender." She looks back up at you. "Kill me. Please."

You twitch--a not-insignificant part of you was considering it already. "We can help you."

"Lieutenant... Anode, was it?"

"Captain, now."

"Ah."

"You know me?"

"Diamond spoke very highly of you," she says. "That's... one of the last things I remember."

"Diamond didn't make it," you tell her.

She's quiet again. "I see." Another long silence. "He was very kind to me. Was it... was it me?"

"I don't think so," you offer awkwardly, as if it makes it better.

"Two minutes," Blanc tells you, as Wren takes in her surroundings.

"How bad is it?" She asks softly.

>Bad. You don't want to know how bad.

>Bad. You don't want to know how bad.

Before you lies Hueco Mundo, land of the hollows.
The strange shaped moon can be soon far above in the pitch black night.
The only thing you see before you is the endless white desert stretching as far as the eye can see, with only the occasional small, white tree dotting the landscape.
You were expecting...

Well, you were expecting something.
On your way here you weren't really wondering what this place would look like, but some ideas were floating around.
Maybe a hidden paradise? Maybe Hell itself?
Maybe... maybe...

"GOD DAMN IT!"
Pesci finally breaks the audible silence.
"WE CAME ALL THE WAY HERE TO FIND A BLOODY DESERT?!"
It looks like he finally snapped. Your sudden transformation into a Menos coupled with this more than disappointing turn of events finally managed to cause him to snap.

You decide to try and calm him down if only to make him stop shouting directly in your ear, as he is standing on your shoulder.
"Pull yourself together Pesci. You are making a scene."

"Tell me about it! You guys would raise the dead with all this noise."

As you heard these words both of you can feel an immense power wash over you.
You turn around to find an incredibly powerful hollow floating in the air roughly around your height.
The voice was incredibly feminine but the hollow, who feels a lot like Heqet in terms of power, looks quite large and monstrous.
Large spikes protrude from her body, as well one very large one from her forehead which is almost concealed by her long silver hair.

"Oh sorry, don't mind me. Watching new guys arrive with that shocked expression is simply the most amusing thing I've seen in years.
But damn, I never would have guessed that there are such maniacs who'd reach Gillian level in the mortal world. Congrats!"

Though the voice is cheery you are far from relaxed.
All that power easily surpasses even Heqet and that's saying something, so you can't allow to let down your guard.

"Alright, you had your laugh. Now how about leaving us alone?"
You ask demandingly but without showing any aggression, God knows you don't want to provoke a fight out of her.

"Hey, hey relax! I'm not going to hurt you! If I wanted to kill you you'd be dead."
Damn she is good. She reads you like an open book, despite your best efforts. Pesci is probably ruining your chances however.

"I only came to say hi and welcome you newcomers to this very special corner of Hell we call Hueco Mundo.
I thought you'd need someone to explain the rules here, you wouldn't want to make a mistake now would you?"

"This place has rules now? Next you'll tell me it has a king too."
You respond with as much snark as you can muster while being stared down by her.

"You'd be surprised...
But these are not really rules per se more like obvious shit everyone does.
And there are only two really, one of which saved your life so be glad.
First is the obvious, Kill or be killed. That's it.
And second is, Don't kill gillians with unique masks.
The common ones you can munch on all you like but the ones that can become something are to be left alone."

"I get the first one but what's the deal with the second one?"
Pesci asks the obvious question instead of you. Luckily he doesn't care about embarrassing himself by questioning basic things.

"You see a Gillian is still a Gillian, no matter how smart they are.
The ones that are lobotomites are about as filling as the conscious ones and typically can't put up a fight.
And the ones with the unique masks normally turn into Adjuchas pretty quickly and when they also become a much better meal than any Gillian ever could be."

"Hah!
So it's simply: Let them ripen before the harvest?
I can get behind that."
You chuckled a little after hearing this.
Knowing that there is some semblance of order even in this place amuses you a little.
>>
"It's not that hard is it?
Now if you'd get out of here that would be wonderful!
Bottom feeders should go underground where you belong because no one will ignore for long if you stay up here."

Though you don't like her tone you have to admit she has a point.
The first thing that you should do however is to decide on is how to approach this new world.

Alright, you've likely heard the complaints about all dwarves being the same stubborn, memeing, gimli clone or in other words every dwarf seems to be The Dwarf and just really samey. Some say it's unavoidable. Let's put that to the test.

Make a plausible dwarf character that isn't a surly gimli clone. Bonus points if they aren't a black sheep.

No...It can't be a dwarf from your homebrew setting. Any other official setting, go for it.

The problem is if you take a concept like an "elf", or "dwarf" and make it completely non-stereotypical and interesting... well, that's good, that's very good, but at that point you probably aren't going to call it just an "elf" or "dwarf", and if you do you're just trying to show off how original you are.

In other words, if you take a dwarf and make it into something thoroughly undwarf-like, most people will no longer call it a dwarf.

If you were given the powers, talents and skills of the last character you played at the cost of becoming that character permanently, would you do it? Why, or why not? How would you actually handle it in practice?
For the memory/personality death types, assume that neither memory or personality change, and that any skills or knowledges gained are in addition to the ones you already have.
You gain all gear that's defining to the character (for example cybernetics for a street samurai), but not the odds and ends that your character might have picked up over time. You have to deal with the consensus of the normal world, but on the flipside only a few hundred other people all over the world are assumed to have undergone the same process (and they're almost all as one 1e Sabbat players or magical-realm players). The picture gives a rather good idea of what they're like - and the thought of what their last characters were like should strike fear into any sane human.
Powers that govern universal concepts or otherwise give you godlike powers become more limited in scope (you won't be able to do much more than subjugate a small country at first at the very most), but not everyone is of the same power level.
Hard mode: You also acquire the character's personality.
I honestly think this is an interesting question, and I'll just throw it up once more to make sure that I don't hit off hours in the US too hard. It resulted in a lot of interesting discussion and a relatively small amount of magical realm, and it's a bit odd that /tg/ doesn't seem to have more to say about it.

So, /tg/, I was thinking about DMing a game again, but I was sort of anxious. The problem is, I don't really like parties. They tend to be either boring or quarrelling, too homogeneous or so different, they have no reason to adventure with each other. Oftentimes, every player in the party wants to do a separate thing at the same time. I don't really like this shit.

But you know what I like? Vidya RPGs. Those tend to have a clear cut protagonist, who the story revolves around, and a party of NPCs, who are there to entertain him. Vidya, however, do have a problem - they have a very limited plot, very limited freedom, and unless we develop an AI any time soon, it will remain so forever.

But then I had an idea. What if I grab a couple of imaginative, interesting players I like, throw them in the same setting, tell them to create whatever characters they want and create separate plots, NPC parties and encounters catered specifically to them? I've found the volunteers quickly, and we've just began - so far it's going well.

How autistic is my idea, /tg/? Have you ever considered something similiar?

That sounds like competent/above average GMing.

You mean 1 on 1 GMing?

How are you going to run multiple completely different games at once?

Continued.

While I have only two players (one of them playing a thief from the gutters, the other - a noble elven sorcerer), I have quite a few of observers. And then I've thought - why should they be just observing? Let them have their fun too!

So I've started thinking how can I achieve that. My idea is a karma system. Every observer has karma, ranging from +5 to -5. Using karma, he can cause changes - those changes can move his karma either towards either positive, or negative cap. Every time an observer helps a player (by granting him an advantage or something) or intervenes into plot (for example, by taking over an NPC for a time), he hurts his karma. The only way to get it back to positives is to harm the player - for example, by giving him disadvantages, shifting NPCs' disposition in the social encounters etc.

What /tg/ thinks of this idea? Is it crap? Do you have any suggestions?

>Last time, on Digimang Quest.

Dash and Daisy convinced Edgy McDarkness to give them a ride to Eva’s army after some deliberation.

Eva was on a war path, thinking Dash was dead, she almost killed him as an imposter, before they teamed up to drive out the Angewomon occupying Coded Village.

After some blood, sweat and tears, Devimon digivolved into a dominatrix thing, saved the day, and Eva tapped into the power of love, like a nerd.

With the village saved, the small group agreed to disband most of the army, instead sneaking their way into Prince Mamemons’ castle, disguised as Witchmon and her guests, hoping to save Jeff from being stuck as Princess Jessica.

Now, on with the adventure!

You lock the door to your room behind you, Daisy hurriedly unsealing the oversized gloves she’d been wearing, letting Elecmon and Demi loose, as she sags onto the bed. “I don’t like this outfit…’ She complains cinching the belts looser. “It’s so… tight.”

It sure is…

You smack yourself a little, breaking your attention back to the situation. Sun’s set by now, and the wedding’s in the morning. Your room is decently sized, small window pointing out over the cliff side, the stunning view of the ocean, salty air rolling in… and craning your head out, there’s plenty of loose mortar and pipes and what not sticking out of the wall that you could probably make it up to the parapets two floors above you if you’re careful… Only a few hundred foot drop if you slip.

Demi flaps out, peering up, but she says the parapets are clear of guards for now. Also points out that there’s a single lit room, atop the tallest tower, with a short figure in the window.

Daisy, for her part, just yawns, bushed from the hard march to get here in time, kicking herself back on the bed. “I hope we don’t have to fight our way out of here if we can help it.” She mutters aloud. “I really am getting sick of all this fighting.”

You take another look out the window, spotting a slightly more precarious way down to the ground floor, without having to use the staircases. Hmmm.

Eva’s still in her room, no word from her yet.

>Climb up, see if you can talk to Jeff about the plan
>Climb down, might find a way to get Gotsumon out of the dungeons
>Daisy’s got a point, get some sleep before tomorrow
>Check with Eva, see if she’s got any plans.

Can't pass up the opportunity to climb in through the princess' window the night before her forced marriage to the evil prince, that's some storybook stuff right there.

I mean, minus the princess being a dude.

How do you handle currency in your setting? Do you use some sort of base 10 division system, or is it just x amount of single currency type? Or is it something else altogether? I'm trying to come up with a currency type, but can't decide what it should be/be called

Tempted to make some sort of exponential wealth indicator similar to Rogue Trader's profit factor for my homebrew setting.

My new setting has a new system. From my notes:

>The currency of the realm goes as follows:
>10 copper pennies = 1 tin dime
>10 tin dimes = 1 silver dollar
>10 silver dollars = 1 gold sovereign
>10 gold sovereigns = 1 platinum bullion coin
>All costs given in “gp” in the SRD and other standard literature are now to be read as “$”, with tin dimes replacing silver pieces and gold sovereigns replacing platinum pieces.
>Each country mints their own currency, but with very few exceptions all coinage has the same standard value, due to historical influence.
>Paper money is issued by some governments, and is generally only valid in that nation and its immediate neighbors or close allies. Money changers will change paper money, usually for a 10% fee, 25% if the country of origin is enemies with the country of destination. Military and government salary is generally paid in paper money.
>Sovereigns are so named because each country prints the current head of their government on them, meaning a given gold coin immediately reveals both where and when it was minted at a glance.

The setting is also going to have bearer bonds (arbitrary value bills, essentially), but the real trick is that illiterate people (barbarians and those who take the "Illiterate" Flaw) can be mislead about the value of paper money.

I've been thinking about making a Space Feudalism setting, based on Dune for the most part, where the currency is precious metal coins, but it's still a fiat currency. The precious metals are just part of the anti-forgery system, like hidden watermarks.

Rate your group, out of ten.

What do you think about them? Do you like them? Do you dislike them? Do they ever cause you grief?

5/10

The DM second guesses everything I say and literally doesn't give a shit about how many rules his bro-y friend playing with us breaks.
I swear to god.

2/10. Game started out great, cool concept, cool players, cool plot, but then the GM got lazy and it devolved into his magical realm.

That's quite a leap in quality. What happened? Are you sure he's inserting his fetishes in the game?
