/tg/ I have an ethical question. I was/am DMing a 3rd edition setting that was originaly should of been a lighthearted fun thing based on the card Steamflogger boss. I made riggers second class mechanical men, etc. It was fun and games but then one of my pcs shouted (in character)

"FUCKING RIGGERS!" I laughed and so did a few others in my regular group. But one immediately shut down the game with silence and glaring. And then that player (I don't think their gender or identity matter for this story) said, "I can believe you idiots made that racist joke, but I don't think I can play with a DM who abides that sort of racist shit. It should at least change their alignment if they shout racist things like that."

At first I thought that the complainer was wrong, but now I'm not so sure. How would you handle this, fa/tg/uys?

By making up a better story next time, and also posting it with greentext as is the custom for things that never actually happened.
>>
>I can believe you idiots made that racist joke, but I don't think I can play with a DM who abides that sort of racist shit.
I'm sorry you feel that way. There's the door.

>It should at least change their alignment if they shout racist things like that.
A player's alignment isn't decided by committee - its between the player and the GM. Again, if that is a problem for you, there's the door.

Yes, those are swords fixed to the end of the rockets. Yes, that was historically a thing, and yes, it worked quite well in the 1700s and 1800s.

honored Folk of /tg/

i humbly seek your advice.

For i am but a poor lad with nothing more then a good brain full of colorful ideas and noble goals.
I seek to build a pen&paper group. From scratch, so to say.
I would like to be GM. Sure i can stand and match your, or any, compasion therefore.
Alas.
What woes whos wickering is that i have never actually done it.
I have very little P&P practice. And never actually GM´d. I have experience at LARPing, a low power, politic heavy, world of darkness carmarilla domain with multiple actual citys playing, no less.

And i have no clue what a system we are going to use.
I enjoy the All Guardsman Party so i consider the 40kThing. Plus i played 40k Imperial Guard and was a HUGE fan. GW price politics though.

And i also lack a group.

Do have some dice, though.

So yeah, gotta start somewhere.
Im hoping for tips, experiences, advise. What persons should i recruit for my group? which should i ditch? Where should i look for them in the beginning? Uni i guess?
What is important to know when preping my campain?
Which mistakes should i avoid?

Recently my new playgroup asked me to run a high fantasy, over the top Wuxia game for them. I've been pretty detached from the genre outside of the first 2 Kung Fu Panda movies, so I have no idea what I'm getting in to. My understanding basically revolves around famous dojos, animal themed martial arts, ancient techniques, long moustaches, and a golden emperor of the land of heaven. My playgroup is five people, and I'm having trouble coming up with different encounters and plot hooks, and really nailing the theme and setting. Any advice would be appreciated.

Legends of the Wulin or Weapons of the Gods might work, OP. Good luck with it.
>>
Legends of the Wulin is literally built for this, and it does a damn great job once you get past the unnecessarily steep learning curve. The system is fantastic, but the editing of the book is so bad it can be hard to figure out.

When it comes to general Wuxia theme and tone, it has a lot of advice, references and recommendations for GMs, as does Weapons of the Gods. Even if you don't use the systems, they're well worth looking at for ideas.
>>
Also interested in Wuxia. Can you recommend a few films/shows to get me started?

I shameless asked a GM once to retcon like half a campaign because I didn't like my character choice.

To my credit, I had chosen to play a wizard my first time playing Pathfinder, and all the steps involved with spell selection and save-calculations was grinding the game to a halt.

Turns out sticking your fingers in your ears closing your eyes and shouting lallalalalala I can't hear you doesn't actually work.

1. Space travel takes thousands of our best and brightest working together on a labor of love. Even with billions in funding and our most envelope-pushing technology, we remain barely capable of a round trip to Luna. The costs to emigrate and settle there - or beyond - would be orders of magnitude more costly, including brain power and industrial commitment.

2. Digging a hole takes a strong back and a shovel.

You decide.

Perhaps I'm exaggerating a little, but despite their rather lengthy backstories and my best efforts to get them engaged, my players seem to be mostly interested in fighting enemies and getting stronger, rather than interacting with NPCs. They do it, sure, but it's not even half of what I'm used to seeing in tabletop. One of them has a tendency to just stop paying attention whenever it's not his turn.

Am I doing something wrong, or did I just end up with a bad batch of players? The most RP any of them do is shittalking enemies, even when it's just a spar.

You could reward good RP.
>>
>>47349088
In what way? They already get XP every session.
>>
>>47348963
Stop giving XP for killing things. Switch to leveling up when storyline objectives are achieved, or a set amount of XP per session with bonii for good rp.

If they'd rather not play, then I guess you'll have to re-evaluate what kind of game you're willing to run.

>the goddess of peace and love turns heroes and extremely worthy people into her avatars
>they become extensions of her in both body and soul
>their original forms and identities are like shadows and dreams to them
>goddess has been doing this for centuries

Pretty sure this classifies as evil by D&D standards, but I dunno.

On the off chance this isn't bait, even though I'm 95% sure it is, it's commonly accepted by everyone old enough to actually be on this board that alignments are an awful concept that needs to be done away with entirely, as well as every mechanic relying on them that can't be easily house-ruled into something functional.

GoT's the most recently published thing that comes to mind.

Exalted allows for army management, but doesn't have much when concerning resource management

If your group is attached to DnD, you could always dig up Birthright from 2nd Edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons.

Otherwise if you want a sci-fi setting, you could try Star Without Number. It might be a bit sparse on resource management, but you got units and money.

Alright lads I want some truth up in this thread. Am I the asshole that needs to change, or is it everyone else?

Since its release a bunch of people started playing AoS at my club; myself included. While everyone was excited for the game (we're 40k guys so there wasn't any rage over fantasy's death) I was one of the more serious people at the time.
Having read nearly all the fantasy novels already I decided that I wanted to play Skaven and WoC once the rules came out.
Capitalizing on the chaos, I was able to buy up a metric fuck load of models for these two armies for nearly nothing.
Shortly after getting the models the rules came out. Now being the fuckin nerd that I am I not only learned all of my dudes rules, but every other armies rules as well.

Flash forward a little bit and AoS is really taking off at our club. I win more often than most because of my knowledge and having access to more models, but it's still only like a 15% difference.
However as more rules and shit have been added I've started to win far more often.

Now I'm a fluff player. My Skaven are clan Skyre. I don't use other clans stuff and I certainly don't use other factions stuff without a good reason. I try to bring fun and fluffy armies, I will willingly take clan rats over stormvermin if my opponent doesnt have elite infantry or if the vermin wouldn't fit the theme.
I follow the same general idea with my WoC.

Despite this I have begun winning more and more often and my 'friends' are starting to give me shit for it. What started as just some jokes about me being a tough opponent have turned into comments about me either playing the "OP" armies or being a powergamer.
I play to win and I dont handicap myself unless I'm against a kid or a new player, but these are grown ass men; most of whom are twice my age. I will take fun and unique lists, but I'm still gonna play to the objective.

Pt2.

I try to be a fun and relaxed guy and I genuinely like everyone at my club, but it's starting to feel like people only play me in the hopes of winning so they can say how good they are.
I haven't lost a game of AoS in about two months now. So people are starting to bring some really cheesy lists yet they still lose. I feel like a lot of them just aren't good at the game yet and make bad tactical plays, but I dont wanna be a fuckin dick and say that, or I'll be even more ostracized.

These guys still kick my ass in 40k pretty often so it's not like they're idiots either they just don't get AoS the same way I do right now, I think.

Sorry for the long ass two parter bitch fest, but I want your thoughts on this one. Am I the dick here, if so what do I do? If not how should I proceed? I don't want to start throwing games to appease anyone. I still have my pride, besides if I wanted to lose for 45min I'd play a game of league.

You're not a dick.
At this point: you "got gud". You are self rewarding mastery. So now, if you want to appear less the dick, you need to start losing.
Just repeat the Dwarf Fortress motto: "losing is fun". Deliberately throw a game. Yes, I am telling you to take a fall. Because the way you have fun is becoming un-fun for your fellow gamers. If you don't let them win periodically, they will stop playing against you, and then AoS will DIE in your gaming club.
It's like this: do you think your friendships are worth victory in a game of Monopoly? Are you willing to cheat at connect 4? Have you ever shouted "Look! A Bird!" And pointed and, while they were distracted, placed your Scrabble tiles? I doubt it. Now man up, put the kid gloves back on, and take a hit for the stability of your gaming group and the fun of all.
Hope I'm more helpful than >>47349132
