It's the natural default group of adventurer PCs that don't start with allegiance to an authority figure.

One way to avoid it is to have the players make their characters together, and at the outset of the game, they are on a specific quest. Also since 5th edition has "backgrounds", they help a little in putting the PC in society context.

You can't cash out. Over the ~15k gp level, everything is done in favors, titles, and heirlooms. A wand of CLW? Yeah, sell it to a magic shop in the big city. Serious magic? You're doing anyone weak enough to pay cash for it a disfavor, because someone with real power will come along and confiscate it.

And, at this level, you probably already invested in a nice fortified manor with vineyards in the quiet lands outside a rich coastal city. You're a political-level power, like it or not. A bipedal dragon. Unless you want to move to a mountain-top, walking away is not an option.

Yes, after I finished college and moved back, several of my friends asked me to run a game for them. They then proved they're incapable of understanding how to play a "ragtag group of cowboys and smugglers" game. I've never encountered a group of people who all want to play a Firefly game then do nothing you'd associate with a Firefly game.

Then they all got obsessed with trans issues and BDSM culture, so I dropped the group.

The stories one would read in most of the Chronicles of Darkness books are not about an entire party (as represented by Coterie, Pack, Cabal, etc), but an individual's trials, tribuulations, and struggles. It is about them, not the group they are in. To this end, everyone in this group has a player character, and if they get along with the group, they are encouraged to become a Storyteller for the next person who rolls along.

While our journies all start out one-on-one with our Storyteller, we all end up crossing paths with other characters. As rare as supernatural or otherwise interesting entities are, it's damn-near impossible for one of them to go without encountering another truly interesting person. Two motivated people might find themselves in the same abandoned psychiatric ward; one is looking for obscure medical records that never got digitized and the other just needs a quiet place to meet with his secret society for dark rituals. Whenever these meetings take place, it's rarely intentional, and never boring.

How they handle it is up to you, should you choose to play. This is why you should join: to help determine that.

Yes. Annihilator would almost certainly be ruled as a card effect in yu-gi-oh, so he'd be immune to that. Magnus would probably be at leasy RUG, but even Emrakul isn't immune to creature effects, just spells, and none of the others have protection vs. targeted shuffle effects.

Purely from a stats perspective, going by percentages, 400 ATK in yugioh (1/20 of starting LP) can be thought equivalent to 1 power/toughness in magic. On such a scale, Magnus would be a 9/8, which is smaller than all the Eldrazi titans, so just on that metric, in combat, he'd lose, if say, he ran out of XYZ material.

playtime somewhere around a weekend if you have it, a week if you work

I originally believed it to be a grog holy grail but the individual turns are pretty straightforward, and most soviet counters run down to there being like 8 armies which all act as a unit most of the time, while on the german side much of the remaining counters is worthless VS, improvised troops or police which have very little practical use beyond roadblocks.
