Have vague idea for a setting
Pls tell me if is shit tier cancer claptrap

>High fantasy setting, each sapient race created by own patron deity, general populace unaware of said deities, not even worshipped.
>Certain select cults and secret societies in each race aware of their existence, more concerned than reverent.
>Increasingly disinterested in mortal affairs, many of these patron gods beginning to support the idea of wiping the slate clean to make a more interesting "project"

>Through various means of divination and investigation said societies become aware of the disinterest of the Gods, and begin to understand that in order to avoid being wiped out a spectacle must be provided.

>Dwarves are the most powerful, unified and advanced race of the setting
>Prehistoric dwarves lived in grassland plains, where their stature allowed them to remain hidden from predators.
>Dwarf tribes (long ago) single handedly slew the vast majority of the setting's dragons, another sapient race, in order to secure their steadfast within the mountains.
>Monarchy is established among Dwarves based around the "Dracovorian Highlords", Dwarves able to devour the hearts of dragons in order to gain stupendous powers for a short time before dying.
>In times of war it was the duty of a Highlord to sire a son and perform Kerogh'Kal, a ritual in which he devours a preserved dragon heart and becomes an avatar, beings with reality warping magical powers who can single handedly turn the tides of wars.
>Dwarves use this newfound power to subjugate every other sapient race over the course of 100 years of bloody warfare.
>In recent times the vassalship or slavery of the other races has lead to a time of relative peace and prosperity, this is what the gods find tiresome.

>Enter the secret societies
>They seek to end the Dwarven empire and plunge the world in to a war to end all wars, in the hopes that the spectacle might appease the Gods in to not wiping the slate clean for a while longer.

>The societies conspire together under the overall leadership of the Dwarven society, which is led by a cousin of the Dwarven High King.
>After decades of plotting, the societies succeed in engineering a plot by which they manage to lure all of the Highlords, except for the High King himself, to a meeting, at which they are all assassinated.
>This means that the only true Dracovorian remaining is the High King himself, said to be the most powerful of them all, locked away in the deepest vaults of the Dwarven capitol, atop his throne carved from the skull of the once dragon king, in possession of the dragon king's heart.

>The other races are aware of this situation, the societies having sent their agents to spread the news of the assassinations throughout the lands

>Still none of them are yet willing to move openly against the High King, knowing that should he eat the heart, he would surely destroy them all in the year before his eventual death.

>Think of it as a sort of fantasy nuclear stand off mutually assured destruction situation

This would be the point at which the players in this world enter the story.
>>
Do people think this sounds retarded?
Suggestions are welcome also, if people have any cool ideas of things they think might be good to add to the sort of framework of the setting?
>>
Any advice would also be welcome, like if I'm leaning too heavily on bad tropes or anything like that, or if its too cookie cutter

Would a setting in the Prince of Persia verse be cool?

even the 2008 reboot?

The original games had a good setting, though I only really remember the first two - and the first one was the good one. Just difficult ancient structures, traps, sand monsters, and big tittied supernatural bitches.
>>
>>47516971
Especially the 2008 reboot.

It was pretty shitty gameplay-wise, but it flawlessly captured the spirit of a fairytale that Prince of Persia always was about, and the setting was fun. Shame Ubisoft canned PoP franchise and switched to soulless Assassin's Creed yearly releases.

Even more funny is that they tried to replicate the success of the Sands of Time trilogy by releasing the Forgotten Sands, and the only acceptable version of Forgotten Sands ended up to be the Wii one.

How many Space Marines and Imperial Guards are required to beat back the tides of Chaos in Fantasy's End Times?

>Those empire soldiers.
It sucks that it's not possible to upgrade Empire soldiers from unarmored all the way to heavy armor. Is this official artwork?
>>
Chaos specifically would still be a big challenge for Imp despite the technology differences, because Imps are still very prone to corruption

So probably several chapters/hundreds of thousands of Guardsmen
>>
>>47516714
Very few. Chaos in Fantasy is an entirely different animal to that in 40k, and isn't nearly as corrupting or freely powerful. Chaos really doesn't have any defense besides extremely powerful wizards of Tzeentch if Guardsmen bring out the artillery.

What system should I use to run a game that's basically Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser style "murdering the fuck out of nightmarish monsters back to back like best bros do" adventure?

Something OSR is a possibility, but as much as I love it, I don't really like Vancian magic all that much, at least for this kind of thing. I want magic to be strange and mysterious, and something players are reluctant to use.

I actually thought about taking Call of Cthulhu, setting it in a fantasy medieval setting, making the characters tougher, and replacing the skills with ones more suitable to the setting. Would that work well?

For the tone of what I'm thinking, think about the FatGM stories Thieves' House, The Bleak Shore, The Seven Black Priests, and Claws from the Night (can you tell I read Swords Against Death most recently?).

Any ideas?

DCC RPG because they're releasing a Lankhmar box set with modifications to the rules to make it more Lankhmar-y. (standard DCC Magic is already pretty dangerous and Spellburn + Patrons means it's highly likely for magic-users to become monstrous)

Otherwise i'd probably say Crypts & Things (Remastered version coming up) or Savage Worlds: Lankhmar.
>>
>>47516648
If you really want to drive home the nighmarishness of the monsters i'd say exalted. One of the best games for super powerful monster stuff. Though at this point only core is out so it requires more homebrew work

Just had an argument with another player about our current dm and wanted to know what others think. Not looking for validation, just what public opinion might be.

The argument was about if I should confront the dm about some things in the campaign.

He has, not only in this game but also others, retconned events and decisions we have made. I have been under the impression that he was doing this for story but this still does not really make it justified. My fellow player has said that he does not care, as long as there is something to play and we keep from driving off the dm.

Another thing was ignoring character abilities, or sometimes taking them off for the sake of what he planned. This includes things like saying spells automatically fail, do not affect targets they were just effecting or the turning off of things like smite when we know a target is evil, then saying it works on an identical enemy in the same combat. Even when we try to investigate why, he will tell us nothing was different about it and in game research always turns up nothing.

I also dm/gm for the group, running the main campaign at the moment and he is running the alternate. It just aggravates me when he retcons events or refuses to let players do things because he did not plan for them.

Long story short, a fellow player does not want me to bring these up to the dm, which totally shut down last time we mentioned something about things in his game for the sake of keeping members in the group. Would I be in the wrong to try and get him to obey closer to the rules he set for us? I know dms need some leeway but I feel like it has gotten out of hand.

I feel you are completely in the right and applaud you for being sensible. There are somethings you can fudge as a DM, but never, ever go against the rules of a class ability. That is literally taking toys away from the player and it is never fun.
>>
>>47515495
My biggest grip was the retconning player decisions but the ignoring player actions also got me.

The last example of this was when a player used color spray on an human thug that attacked up. He said that he was not going to roll the thugs saving throw and just ignored the spell effects. This was pretty low level and the character was not exactly a combat monster and was in an ambush.

Years ago, we were playing a 3.5 game in the abyss and threw a pretty serious fight at us. After the battle, I started using wands to heal the party and he ruled that they no longer worked, telling us the plane was draining power from magic items, but not casters. I started using heal spells and he said I suddenly lost 3/4 of my spells.

This caused me to quit his game years ago, with neither of us handling the argument afterwards very well. I am feeling like I am about completely done with this on the new go around and I might just stop playing under him at all. Just feel like it would cause some form of drama or a complete group split due to the groups composition and lack of anyone else to invite to sessions as we live in a mountain community.
>>
Would you actually be in the wrong? No.

Would you be practically in the wrong as far as the group is concerned? Maybe, depends on how much any of the other players agree with you and want to square up to the GM.

So /tg/, there's stories about heroes scoring attacks in the weak spots of enemies and slaying them almost instantly, and if not, hampering them so severely that they surrender.

Do you ever apply mechanics or RP'ing like this into your game, if only for special moments?

HP is an abstraction. HP was always an abstraction. HP will always be an abstraction. That means hitting 0 HP can represent anything from the last blow that finally brings down the wounded ogre, the PC's hammering on the dragons thick scaley hide until they get lucky and finally find it's weakspot, or the duelists luck finally running out and taking a blade through the chest. It is purely limited by your lack of imagination. This is why so many people complain about it, because they're autistic shitters who need everything handed to them

Given the long-term threat of the Tyranids, to say nothing of the Necrons, Orks and Chaos, why don't the Eldar and Imperium put their differences aside and form an alliance?

Or hell, even include the Tau?

Battling over the shitty little planets and sectors they stay at each others' throats for seems suicidal in the face of multiple Tyranid hive fleets bearing down on the galaxy.

Long history of mutual aggression.

Xenophobia on both ends, although one's out of declared superiority and the other's more pure anti-alien zealotry.

The Eldar ain't saints and suffer not the alien to live.

Maybe the Nids will change it, fuck it, in the face of the nids i feel like they could maybe even convince the Orks to go after the "stabby gitz", but that's then and this is now.
>>
>>47513137
Generally, the Eldar believe the Humans are them in reverse, where the Eldar gods had a steady incline to a fast death, to the GEoM having a massive start and now a slow decay. They're more or less thinking along the lines that Humans are (relatively) soon to end, and that they'll last longer on their own. They also think of the Tau and Humans as little more than meddlesome children.

Humans, on the other hand, have the exact opposite view, thinking they're soon to be rulers of the galaxy, and that xenos 'helping' them would just be acts of begging for mercy.

Tau are even more hardcore than both on this matter, as humans and Eldar tend to look down on the Greater Good.
