I was under supervised IQ test and I have IQ of 128. Can I be good at science?

probably average. you'll never innovate though.

I'm afraid there is absolutely no hope for you. The best chance you have is to work at McDonald's flipping burgers for your entire miserable and insignificant life.
>>
>>8710263
>implying IQ is a good measure of how well you would do at any subject

Given you're not classified retarded you probably could. 128 is alright.

Really causes my neural cells to depolarize by opening gated channels in the membrane and passively diffusing potassium ions out of the cytoplasm down its concentration gradient leading to a sequence of action potentials to stimulate in accord with long term potentiation pathways developed through the release of seratonin at key moments of sensory input.

Take a straight metal rod

Bend it until the ends meet

Weld

What now!?
>>
what do you mean, what now?

in the games you couldn't remove either portal if a solid object was passing through a portal, which is what i deduce you were trying to figure out. Are you retarded or something? What are you even trying to say?
>>
An object that is inbetween portals cannot interact with itself in any meaningful way.

There is no way to weld the object to its opposite end because the end you're seeing is actually from a different piece.

Name one thing this guy has done that has improved humanity or even mattered.

Protip: you can't, and theorhetical physics of black holes is less important than even abstract mathematics.

here is a side view of a wall. the weight is attached to an L-shaped bracket which has magnets firmly fixed to it. the bracket is then held in place on a metal wall.

considering the cantilever action, the top magnet has a certain amount of force trying to pull it away (sideways) from the wall. which orientation of the bracket will reduce that force?

this isn't homework - don't need to say any working just looking for a simple answer.
21 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
The moments and forces are the same for either case because you have changed the moment arms in either the top or bottom magnet.
>>
>>8710095
*haven't
For example if the perpendicular distance from the line of action of the force of the weight is 5m, and the force is 5N, then the resulting moments at A (top in either case) and B (bottom) are the same. And since both magnets are essentially fixed connections along the wall, they will have equal moments.
>>
>>8710109
*equal and opposite moments, the top one will always be forcef out of the wall

Because your eyes are oriented on a horizontal plane instead of vertically. If your eyes were oriented on a vertical plane you would see things reflected upside-down.

Hello
I don’t really know where to put this so I will start here, hopefuly I will get some help.
I am currently in the process of deciding a topic for my master thesis. I come from a marketing/public relations background, but I want to focus on big data for this (big data in forecasting consumer behaviour, or similar topics). I don’t have any programming/advanced statistics skills, so I’m worried I won’t be able to do this.
What do you guys think, can you recommend some topics/titles? Do you think I can manage a thesis (approx. 100 pages long) with no advanced knowledge in a year or so? It will probably have to include some sort of empirical part and I don’t know what this could be.
I am willing to put in a lot of work since this is something that really interests me and I hope I can make a career out of it.

tl;dr
>master thesis titles combining big data and marketing

>>
I guess maybe this should go under /adv/ but I kind of want to talk about how to make an empirical study of big data (is it possible to do something, like an analysis) if I don't really have the knowledge of programming/algorithms. Or where should I start studying these topics....
>>
>>8709720
Take a senior-level stats class at your university. If you fail, you cannot do Big Data.

No fuck you god damn mind readers, I hate that I made a dummy Facebook profile years back with no identifying information and a fake name, and yet I still get emails asking me to add people I talked to in highschool and never even got the email of let alone any contact online.

It's creepy.

Renewable energy, is it just a meme or will is actually be significant someday?
14 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Bumpin for (you)
>>
>>8709579
It's already significant and is growing continuously.

Relying on it exclusively is a bit trickier, because supply and usage are never going to quite match up.
>>
>>8709999
>because supply and usage are never going to quite match up.

More because peak usage and peak supply doesn't match up. With fossil energy during peak usage (for household example, 5-10pm primetime) you can just burn more coal/natural gas. The wind gonna blow the strongest not during peak usage, nor the sun gonna shine the brightest during peak usage.

Mathematically wind and solar do produce enough energy to power most industrialized nation, but energy storage is a big issue. You need to store those energy for peak usage hours, and the batteries technology is not really there yet to efficiently store billions of watts worth of energy

What would it be like to have an IQ 150+ if ,
>you come from a low-income family?
>went to a high school that suppressed you from learning calculus until 1st year of college
>if none of your family members attended college
>dad said he'd beat your mother fucking ass if you didn't get a job after graduating from college
>didn't go to a prestigious undergraduate school
>had to work in a coal mine during the summers or other odd jobs
>none of your friends are intelelctuals
>born in the deep south
>dad beats the fuck out of your mom and says he'll beat the fuck out of you too

How can such a person compete when other 150+ IQ people enter college at 16 and have PhDs by their early 20s?

If this person broke free at 30 years old and went to graduate school how much time would it take them to catch up?

>>
>>8708700
>If this person broke free at 30 years old
it's obviously much too late by then

the answer is that life simply isn't fair
the person was born with a gift but will likely never be able to capitalize on it
>>
>>8708700
One of two things happen.

If they are aware of their capacity, they usually become jaded cynics.

If they are unaware they usually end up becoming someone with "lots of common sense". I come from a third world country and my grandparents did not go to college, and two of my grandparents didn't even finish elementary school. They all had children who went to college and excelled. My two grandparents who didn't finish elementary ended up having two physicians, two teachers, an engineer, and a business manager for children. My other grandmother who didn't go to college had a dentist and a physician.
>>
>>8708729
Why would you say it's too late? Wouldn't this personal be expected to enroll as an undergraduate / community college / whatever and be expected to catch up quickly?

Which is the best order to start learning the basics (high school level) of Science?

>Biology --> Chemistry --> Physics

or

>Physics --> Chemistry --> Biology
14 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Together, no other answer.
You can't properly understand chem without physics, and you can't understand bio without chemistry.
I guess you could start with physics and work your way up, but it's also a great way to lose your interest in science real fast.
>>
Biology -> Chemistry
Skip physics. It's a load of horseshit.

>John von Neumann
>He made major contributions to a number of fields, including mathematics (foundations of mathematics, functional analysis, ergodic theory, geometry, topology, and numerical analysis), physics (quantum mechanics, hydrodynamics, and quantum statistical mechanics), economics (game theory), computing (Von Neumann architecture, linear programming, self-replicating machines, stochastic computing), and statistics.

Seems like specialization is the name of the game. These days you can be a theoretical physicists but have no understanding in basic electronics and how to solder a wire, or vice versa you can be an electrical engineer but doesn't know how electron propagates through the wire nor numerically solve an ordinary differential equations

it was over even in his time, he was an aberration. most of us including me are too brainlet to be able to be polymaths in this day in age. there is just too much to know in any given topic let alone field let alone subject.
>>
>>8708087
Socrates and Plato was also polymaths, but they're both wrong on almost everything related to natural sciences
>>
>>8708087
Only if you're a brainlet. Even an iq in the low 180s should suffice for a broad and deep understanding of the world.
