Hey /sci/,

What's the best (cost-effective) method for reducing specifically carbon monoxide within exhaust fumes of LPG (mix of propane and butane).

My other idea is to increase the efficiency of combustion to ensure the CO isn't even produced in the first place. Is there a correlation between thermal transfer and production of carbon monoxide rather than carbon dioxide? e.g. if there's incomplete combustion, will it have any effect on the efficiency of the burn.

Obviously the best method for heat transfer is having the plate directly at the tip of the blue flame, but this area (if there's a plate there) also creates a large amount of carbon monoxide.

Main ideas are to either inject air into the burner using a fan, or incorporating some type of catalytic converter to specifically remove CO from the exhuast fumes.

Obviously efficiency, cost-effectivness and CO reduction are the main aims.

Thanks

I don't know much about the correlation between heat and production of CO but the main idea behind CO reduction is to ensure complete combustion, which requires excess oxygen
>>
Catalytic converter is basically a one time cost, otherwise just lean out your fuel to get full combustion

>Is there a correlation between thermal transfer and production of carbon monoxide rather than carbon dioxide?
Most definitely! CO is produced by an incompletely burn. Provide sufficient heat and oxygen and you will get ZERO carbon monoxide. Moreover, it is a very flammable gas, which just goes to prove the production of it during combustion means energy is being wasted.

Huummmm can you prove there isn't one? If you see an agent A doing an action B, you assume at face-value it wants to do it until proven contrary.

If the Moon were severely damaged, to the point that there was a chunk of it missing, what would the results be?

Would the fragments form a ring around the Earth, or would they remain anchored in the Moon's limited gravity?

>>
Take out a big enough chunk of the moon and it will probably return to roundness eventually.

As for the missing chunk, that depends where it is and how fast it's going.

That would be over millions of years, if I understand things rightly.

Hey bro.
Casella and Berger's statistical inference is god-tier for statistics theory. But maybe at a higher/more theoretical level than what you're looking for.

There's actually a badass book available free online called A Course in Statistics with R that should cover everything in OP book.

Do you think we will achieve a practical alcubierre drive or some other way of effective space travel in the next 100 year or so?
31 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>9169153
No. The Alcubierre Drive is merely a means of kiking GR into letting you go FTL using exotic matter that hasn't even been observed, much less synthesized in the quantities required. Even if we could synthesize it, using it to generate a bubble with the sub-atomic precision required to get away with only using several kgs of mass energy worth would be an engineering feat that would take a hundred years on its own.

The Alcubierre drive is nothing more than a distant dream at this point in time.
>>
>>9169153
we only need to create high density negative energy. once we can reverse entropy, it should be no problem.
>>
If it were possible, then it would have been built by aliens already and used to colonise the galaxy. Therefore, it's probably not possible.

Wow I just had a thought
What if back in ye olde Jewish days salt was a spontaneously growing crystal like ice nine?
It would explain a lot
>>
>>9172345
Another possibility - the Jews just used to be very small, like on the scale of a grain of sand or a salt crystal

There's some sort of Big Bang inflation theory in there somewhere
>>
>>9172352
Another possibility - all Jews, much like most inhuman savage animals, only appear to be human to your naked eye, but are in fact a massive layer of bacteria that a human being is wearing like a skin suit

Basically my point is that Jews smell and they play stupid games

In grad school now, connected to the hip with a biochemist pharmaceutical researcher

I'm doing some onsite education at his work, a fairly large pharmaceutical powerhouse.

Anyways, one night we go out for a bite to eat, and out of no where, he starts spilling the beans on why I should reconsider my professional direction since "my future will be dictated on publishing ability."

Drops other things too
>the head of the independent review board (IRB) of the medication Pradaxa was also iemployed in operations with the very pharmaceutical company that now sells and profits from this drug
>medications about to enter generic, close to having exclusive intellectual patent rights, need us to change the formulary ever so slightly to change 1-2 mechanisms, whether onset or duration or something, to extend patent rights and allow sale price to remain high
>that I'll have to learn really quick to hunt for my p values, if I can't prove statistical significance, I might as well manipulate the data to get significance. We lose funding if we don't produce results"

I'm not sure how other fields operate in this realm of ethics, but going into big pharma with hopes of doing research, should I believe my mentor completely?

Are you looking to stay in academia?
>>
>>9171527

I'd like to contribute and get published myself, it'd be nice (but not to spearhead designing research, or navigating through IRBs)
>>
>>9171536
Every department has slightly differences in pressure and this still varies wildly from University to university. But the problem as a whole across universities is a publish or perish attitude. It makes sense however. You write grants to get money then use that money to generate research which the funders use as some form of advertising or to show they know how to pick worth while researchers or for supporting documentation for patents. My advisor got pretty wrapped up with his brain child and BASF and did some rather questionable things and still is but that's not why I stayed out of academia, I just want to work and discover, I don't want to write gay ass proposals or papers all the time, I just want to tell the superiors "X and Y worked, z didn't, see you next week for the next update"

Lehesgue integration is super duper thin rectangles to you stupid. They're literally just oriented differently.
>>
>not using Barnett triple integrals

super duper thin 4 dimensional hyper rectangles are too complex for brainlets
>>
Actually it divides the interval of integration into small partitions, minimums, maximums, infima and suprema

Lebesgue integration just calls every integral the supremum of a "simple function" and puts these non-decreasing simple functions into an infinite amount of sets via the characteristic functions

At least I think so. Taking my first reals/measure class now.

So I'm trying to find the nullspace of this matrix. Whenever I row reduce it, i end up with the identity matrix and I'm not sure what to do then.
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>9171128
You're correct. Now you just have to find the vectors [math]v[/math] for which [math]Iv=0[/math]
>>
>>9171133
So is the nullspace just
0
0
0
?
>>
>>9171128

This is the Vandermonde matrix, which transforms the coefficients of a quadratic polynomial into its values at a, b, and c.

The nullspace is given by expanding (x-a)(x-b)(x-c) and looking a the coefficients.
