You are Grand officer Killiam Uxpiren, Commander of the 42th Battlion of the 3rd Colonial regiment of the empire. Seven years ago, you were tasked to garrison the new found city of Katial in Tyew a new continent for the empire to claim.

Unfortunately, The empire's ambition for expansion aroused the envy of lesser powers. The Yaltalli started to colonize the other end of the continent; this new land is abundant with riches.

The vile Yaltalli showed their true colours when they brought a formidable army to lay seige on your city .

That was six months ago

This proud city of the empire might succumb to these filthy arcane users at any moment. You must hold the city for 30 more days until a counter force from the nearest colonial city can break this status quo.

You sat in your office examining the latest report.

Notable Structures
-Grand Command (sound)
-N,W,S walls (sound)
-E walls !!! MINOR BREACH!!! (Under constant watch+ repair)
-Hospital (Sound)
-Ignitium Artillery (Damaged, requires extensive repair)
-Barracks+Armory (Sound)
-Temple (In Ruins)
-Residential houses (Sound)
-Food Storage (Sound)

Standing force
-324 Common Soldiers
-201 Irregulars
-120 Common Soldiers (Maintaining order inside the city)
-79 Marksman
-45 Rush Cavalry
-10 Grand Cavalry
-20 Officers
-15 Grand Guards (Your personal guards)
-3 Pale Officers (Arcane users)
-2 Unseen (Infiltrators)

Notable Problems

-Breach in Eastern walls (will take about 10 days to complete....lesser if with more working force )
-Severe food shortages
-Faith Crisis among the population and some of the troops
-maintaining order (More soldiers will quell any riot/looting/other....)
-Possible Spy/Arsonist inside city walls
-Possible Mind-controlling Yaltalli assassin (Your food was poisoned once by your faithful) chef
-Low Medical supplies, Hospital is full of wounded soldiers (53 Common solider is expected to return back to their dutys in ~5 days)
-General fatigue from soldiers on duty
-Ammo shortage (mainly Ignitium for marksmen)

.

Days till reinforcement :30

A new day has dawn with some relieving news. One of your Unseen confirms that the enemy is resupplying, They will halt any attack for a day or two....

You have:

-1 Siege order [Staging an attack, Defending a certain spot...etc]
-2 City orders [Find the spy, raise the morale...etc]
-Free inquiry about anything in the city (must be asked before making orders)

Per day, use them wisely, Grand Officer.

hmm, what's ignitium? i assume it's some kind of metal that makes shit catch fire, right?

>use the opportunity to weaken the enemy (steal supplies, finish off the wounded...)
>try to find the spy and the assasin
>>
>>754399
> inquire about
Where is worship happening now that the temple is in ruins? If nowhere get a new chapel set up, even a small one with a large courtyard for bigger gatherings. Give a rousing speech at your (new?) center of worship.
> food shortage
Eat the cavalry's horses. They ain't much use in a siege.
>assassin
Set an arcane user and an infiltrator in hunting down the mind controlling faggot
> arsonist
Issue a proclamation about then, let the people do the work
> orders
Go ask someone (captain's in the wall? Infiltrator?) What the chances are of getting a small group out of the city at night time to fuck up and maybe steal their supplies. But risky because we don't have any men to spare.
>>
>>754540
Ignitium is a volatile metal that revolutionized the empire's military forces. Instead of using archers or crosbowmen, A Markbow can fire a small pellet propelled by the ignition of the metal (and other catalysts). Said projectile is faster, almost impossible to dodge and very hard to extract/treat.

It also can be used in various means in warfare.

Staging a counter assault is risky as it might endanger the city itself. This hit and run requires a small group to sneak in the middle of the night, you must choose how many soldiers/others should attempt this risky operation [Success 80+ in a d100 roll]

Finding the spy/Assassin isn't easy, It requires both the collaborative work of the unseen/Pale officers (from the assassin ) and regular officers who are already maintaining order among the population/troops...[1 will be found in ~3 days, Success: +75 in a d100 roll]

>>754580
Worshiping occurs in the now vacant market. A speech should raise the morale a bit [Success +40 in a d100]

The Cavalry might lead a counter assault , they can be also useful should the enemy breach the walls. Still, 55 horse will provide food for ~7 days (more if tighter rations is implemented)
what is your final orders?

>Another Attempt Edition

The coastal town of Diamond Shoals, a popular tourist destination in the summer but otherwise relatively sleepy in the off-season. Occasionally though, there is some supernatural activity abound which is usually seen to by a few strange denizens of the town. For as unnatural as this activity might be though, it usually goes unnoticed by most everyone else. Usually.

You've seen your fair share and are starting to think you picked the wrong town to move to.

Take today for example. You were doing as you normally do about this time, going for a run. Taking a new path and heading under the main pier though, you came across a hulking barnacle-covered mass hanging beneath the pier itself and clinging to the supports.

Finding the local park rangers checking it out, oddly a ways away from their usual grounds, you joined ranks with several kids gathered to watch on. After some poking and prodding and thrown stones though, the water-logged mass shifted to life and tore free of the pier. Possibly in self-defense, it smashed the cart belonging to the park rangers and started pursuing those closest.

With a bad feeling though and personal familiarity with such strangeness, you took charge and drew the creature's attention, prompting it to follow you along the beach. And so you, Owen, have spent your day out so far, running along the beach from some sort of pursuing monster.

>Continue running, maybe you can tire it out?
>Take it through town? Probably a terrible idea, honestly but maybe you can find someone who can help.
>Lead it farther around to the ocean-swept side of the island and try to lose it in the park.
>[Write-in.]

Edgequest: Get Over It #3
an Over the Edge inspired quest

Previous thread archive:

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=edgequest

You are Marie Kingston, a bartender with sticky hands and something like spider sense. You have the look of someone who sleeps in and stays out late, casually mention your extensive liquor knowledge, and can multitask like a fiend when several people are talking to you. Your wallet has a bunch of credit cards with other people's names and a pocket full of odds and ends that don't make sense together. The latest addition is five dollar bill covered in roman numerals belonging to Kim Sommmers, a performance artist who knew your cousin.

You have followed your cousin Darron Kingston to the Edge, a strange city on an odd Mediterranean island. He disappeared about five years ago doing something involving cybersecurity. You're staying in the last place he's been seen.

Contacts:
Italo, a taxi driver, you have his card
Esa Main, a young unkempt moody looking man, or woman... hard to tell. Runs the Forrester front desk and is always drawing in a sketchbook. Has what he calls an "electric memory" and doesn't forget what he sees. He remembers your cousin.
Kimberly Summers, "a desperate college student from Darbane University is up next trying to make this months tuition". Also a performance artist who knew your brother. Member of the Alpha Rio Theta sorority. "vegan".

Clues (Things you might want to look into later or follow up on)
-Weird dude in a cherokee headdress with a badge saying SNS on it who works at The School of the Original Sensation, in a picture with your brother.
-The School of the Original Sensation, a consciousness raising educational facility that runs classes at 10, 2, and 6 on weekdays, taught primarily by Ben Windfeather and Daryush Madari, the founder of the school.
-Darron Kingston. Your cousin. Works in Cybersecurity. Likes guns. Disappeared five years ago until you found a picture of him on an obscure internet forum. Turns out he used to be a regular and a fighter at Sad Mary's.

Corpses:
So far, none that you know of.

Possessions:
Light weight travel bag on wheels
a change of clothes: white t-shirt, jeans, sneakers
Umbrella
cellphone
Bar uniform: If you know King of Fighters then like King's outfit. Vest, pants, bowtie, gloves, women dress shoes
Purse: ID, $200, business cards
A Photograph of your cousin in front of the Forrester, a hotel built by a gargoyle obsessed artist
A rented room in the Forrester for a week. Strangely, it's the same room your cousin stayed in.
Esa Main's graphite pencil

You are in Sad Mary's bar. You've just finished speaking with Kim before she went on stage to weird you out with her performance art. Right now she is leading the crowd in an animal chant of "Who's there?" while spinning topless around the stage.

Nope. Too bizarre. Nope. But you know Darron was a regular at Sad Mary's so it is time to ask around.

What's next?
(1) Well, maybe you should talk to the people who aren't currently drooling over Kim's performance. Show Darron's photo around. See what happens.
(2) There are prostitutes upstairs. They might... know something. Or have skills. Both?
(3) The "real action" in the back room sounds interesting. But how do you get in there?
(4) That guy behind hte bar with a moustache is probably the owner. You bet he's probably in the know.
(5) The tattoo covered viking gang members who work as security. This is clearly a bad idea right now. Half of them will be pissed since they want to watch the show, the other half are busy working. You really want to do this?
(6) Leave. There are better leads elsewhere.
(7) Some other option? Maybe something from an earlier thread you wanted pursued or this coold new idea you had.
(8) Trust in the something like spider sense to lead us to something interesting.* (Note: Interesting thing not guaranteed helpful or survivable)

(pick as many as interest you. vote early and often! I'll try to work in any that get votes)

(I'm adding the Clues section to help manage info. I won't be able to put EVERYTHING important there btu I figure it might help jog memories, especially if we can keep this going for awhile. Is it helpful?)

Also we need a finalized pick on Marie's weakness. To speed things up I offer MYSTERY WEAKNESS
(a) Mystery weakness. I promise it'll show up and be relevant.
(b) Nope. We're picking. It has to be something that gives a penalty to some actions and is important to the character. Substance abuse, injuries, and even personality traits can be weaknesses.

At this hour, with the curtains drawn, the sole source of light in your room is the monitor, harsh white light just barely illuminating your desk but little else. By its light, you're able to make out the collection of empty bottles scattered across the desk. How many you've drained tonight alone, you can't recall.

Jesus Christ, Soma. Thirty two days. That's how long you've been gone. Thirty two fucking days.

You drag your mouse across the filthy wood, sending a bottle or two tumbling to the floor as you do.
Twitter. Even now, this far gone, you expect a new tweet, announcing a thread some time soon.
There's nothing, of course - even if there was, he'd cancel it. As always.

You spend a good five minutes just staring, blankly, at his last tweet. Spring? Does he really think you can go that long? Does he think he can? By spring, he won't even remember a single thing about your beloved Banished Quest.

There's only one solution to all this.
The gun lies at the base of your monitor. Several times now you've tried to work up the courage to do it. Once, you even got your finger on the trigger.
This time will be different'. There's more alcohol than blood pumping through your system, and thanks to it you can finally understand, no, accept the truth.
Soma isn't coming back.

Banished Quest is dead.

And in just a moment you'll join it.
In your alcohol-addled state the gun has none of its usual weight. You almost can't believe that the thing in your hand could, and will, end your life. All you have to do is squeeze the trigger.

Unsurprisingly, your last thoughts are of Banished Quest. You never did get around to convincing your fellow players to vote for your Avatar proj-

It is the Year of Our Lord, 1137

And black waves crash on Ascalon's coast, thunder rolls across the night as lightning flashes amongst dark clouds, crackling down to strike against the water. Rain sweeps across the sea, a cloaking torrential blanket, driven by powerful winds against the coast. A lone ship bobs in the black water, desperately pushed for and aft by wind and wave, its sail cracked and smoking. Shouts can be heard upon the deck, angry, frightened animal sounds bleating from human throats, dimly heard above the duel roar of storm and sea.

And are swallowed, one by one, in the dark, until the ship sails silent in the wild darkness. A silence soon filled by the thundering crunch of the hull splitting against rocks, the ship driving on despite the tear in its belly, staggering like a dying beast towards the shore. It crashes into the beach and there it falls with a thundering boom, its form crumpling against the rocky coast, its corpse splaying out across the sand. Waves lap its broken form as water gurgles out of its splintered wounds, little streams running back to the Palestine Sea.

The storm pushes on, into the hinterland of Palestine, soaking the rain parched land, leaving behind the wreckage of the beached ship in its wake. It lies a corpse upon the dirty sand, in a mess of smashed timber and canvas. What could have survived such a tragedy?

-

You are Wilhelm, Lord of Ascalon, and you stir in the night.

Your wife lies against you, whimpering softly in her sleep, eyes and nose twitching, lips parting as she fought some alien dream. Your hand moved softly through Ioveta's blonde tresses, spools of honey-gold hair winding around your fingers. Her hand as ever lay against your bare chest, her leg entwined with yours, her body pressed to your side. The feel of her, her smell, was still intoxicating to you though you had been wed almost a year now. You could lie like this with her until the end of days, and count it a life well lived.

Though you knew she needed her rest, you had an urge to wake her with a touch on her dimpled chin, to kiss her soft, full lips. You contented yourself with watching the play of expression across her face instead, and found yourself none the less entranced, a feeling like light drunkenness.

There was a soft knock upon your door. A flash of irritation went through you. What fool hour was this too call on a lord? One that meant the news must be important, you realized. With a ginger lightness you untangled yourself from Ioveta, and with bare feet crossed the cool stone floor of your bed chamber. You opened the door to be greeted with the sour expression of your major-domo, Sir Etienne. He wore tabard and sword, eyes red rimmed from being woken just as he was waking you. Behind him seated upon his cot was your squire, Alexius, rising from his bed still half in his sleep as he rubbed at his face.

"M'lord," Etienne said, voice a hush for your lady asleep within, "There's been trouble on the coast. A ship's crashed in the storm, came to ground on your coast." It was odd for ships to voyage at this time of year, the autumn storms were known to be violent and unpredictable. "I was going to gather a search party. There maybe survivors, and if not, by rights whatever is wrecked upon your lands is yours to claim."

"And this could not wait until morning?" you asked, voice low and harsh from your tiredness. You clench your eyes. "Forgive my tone sir," you said.

"I'd be cross too, to be drawn from an angel's side," Etienne said with a crooked smirk. You appreciated the jest, though you knew Etienne had no taste for women.

>I'm currently in church in the front row listening to Pastor Breading give an impassioned sermon.
>"Those who do what is morally right will find strength in the lord. For Ephesians 6:10 states, 'Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.' Currently Satanic cults are gathering in strength. As you've heard they've amassed great numbers, but fear not, and hold fast to faith. Do not give into vice and worldly temptation. Love the lord with all your heart and all your soul. Let us pray."
>Everyone closes their eyes, removes their hats and bows their head.
>"Holy father, we pray that you will protect and guide us all in this confusing modern age. An age of smartphones and debauchery on the internet. That we would not disgrace your name, or the Theocracy which gives us our freedom to choose. That we would all be safe in your word, that we may be guided to the path you would have us to go, that we may be prosperous, yet humble. Lord we pray with all our hearts and all our souls to you oh lord. In your name, and in your son Jesus name we pray Amen."
>The crowd follows with,
>"Amen."
>As the prayer ends and you open your eyes you see everyone briefly bathed in a holy white light.
>Everyone stands up to leave.
>You rush over to Pastor Breading.
"Pastor that was so wonderful!"

"Then the Lord has truly blessed you. I have so rarely felt stronger in him than I do when we all pray and receive his blessing together."
>"He his truly a benevolent god. And he has brought you here as well."
"Yes I believe it."
>"Oh child."
>He walks closer looking into you with sage kind eyes.
>Your heart is filled with the warmth of fellowship.

>"You too have such a blessed gift in the Lord as well. As more people come to our church with afflictions, your power to bless and cleanse the evil is perhaps some of the strongest we've ever seen here. Truly your talents could be better served in a larger establishment."
>You smile bowing slightly.
"I am humbled, but it isn't necessary. I'm perfectly happy being a nun here and helping out this little town in whatever way I can."

Uhm they're still monsters until we change their class, or did we do that already? I dont remember it, though it should be rather trivial now that we know how to.

Anyway, Ill add clothes shopping to the list of things to do.

Lets see...

Do you guys want to cuddle and talk some more with Dawn before going back, or FFWing a little to the next morning at home?

And then when we do start the new week,

You have an ambition.

It's the age of Steam and the old ways of might and magic are slowly trickling away, replaced by machines as bow and arrow turned to rifle and magic missiles turned to artillery.
You used to dream of going to college and learning a magical trade but seeing Steam in action has given you a new, more ambitious idea.

You want to start a railroad company.

There are few in action today but with some forward-thinking, political way-how and other such, you may very well succeed and become the rail tycoon of your homeland.

Ah... your homeland...

You are a humble knight on an earthen path.
You have set out to find a wife as King Aramoth, your master ordered you to find a bride and bear a son so your line will not fade, as well as to gather riches because riches get you bitches.
you have in your possession, a simple cutlass your father left you when he perished from a wasting disease, a shield you have had since you were a squire, a wine skin that is currently full, a water skin that you filled with riverwater, 10 gold coins and a map of a region you have never seen before called "athlansia".

In the distance you can see a snow capped mounatin, it is said that the spirit of an abandoned bride resides on the mountain and will grace any man who can prove his worth with her hand in marriage.

Near you on the path is a cave, this cave is well known to be infested with spiders who have gained sentience. they are generally peaceful and will aid anyone who can charm their queen.

you could continue down the earthen path to the nearest city, where you can hopefully find a tavern to reside in for your journey, and maybe travel to a brothel or two.

Do you

>take her up on her offer
>ask about race relations

Malcia's lips break into a bright smile. "Great! We'll leave here at dawn" she informs you. You then ask the elf about race relations to which she replies "When it comes to that topic I am but an oblivious elf. My kind tends to stay neutral and keep out of conflicts between races. The only conflict I'm aware of is that between orcs and goblins, the hatred between them runs deep from what I hear." Right as she says that the four goblins; Smithy, PeLaara, Nydia, and Lydia, appear from the shadows, each of them carrying something.

"Alright, Princess Lisa..." You turn towards her, a specific goal in mind. "I believe the two of us should have a conversation, um...princess to princess."

"Really?!" Lisa tries to keep her voice down, but her excitement is almost too much to keep in.

"Yep, just you and me." Away from the door you take a seat, patting the floor in front of you. Lisa is quick to take the spot, kneeling in front of you and excited about what you might have to offer. It feels somewhat like an interrogation, even if she's unaware of it. When her toothy grin doesn't fade you can't help but feel wrong for using her trust in you for this.

"What's wrong?" she asks and you work on making yourself look more friendly and warm.

"Nothing, I um..I'm just a little sleepy is all. But I bet you aren't, you were asleep on the couch earlier, weren't you?"

"Um...yep!" Lisa gasps and adds, "Did I snore?"

"No, I don't think you were. Did someone wake you up because of it?"

"Nope. John was coughing and loud and woke me up."

"Right, he was trying to sleep there too." You think it over, trying to figure out the best way to approach this question. "So, you woke up and...?"

"And, and um..." Lisa takes a moment, either to remember or decide if she should say this. You wait by patiently, knowing better than to try to rush her or force the answer out. "And then um, I was supposed to come up here and check on you."

"Oh! You did say someone sent you up here. And so um, who did that?" At the question Lisa covers her mouth, trying to keep the answer to herself. In the pause you try to listen downstairs and figure out what's happening. Not as loud as it was before, figments of Aria's voice pop up, muffled between the floor and space between her and you. Still enough time to get an answer, even if you have to ease it out.

[1/2]
>>
"Please? You can tell me, princess-to-princess secret, right?" You say with all the warmth and friendliness your voice can muster, giving a grin with each word.

"Um...I don't know if I'm supposed to..." Lisa speaks with an anxious and unsure tone, looking anywhere but at you as she fiddles with her fingers. She doesn't want to get in trouble, probably something she learned long ago in her original home, and talks as if stepping over landmines. It would be better if you didn't have to force it out, and you take a moment before trying a different approach.

"It's alright, you won't get in trouble I promise." Her bottom lip trembles at the prospect of punishment and you hesitantly move forward. "Remember what John said, earlier? I'm sure you remember what he told you, I remember how happy you were."

"That I was...um...that I was the Princess...?"

"Of the house! Which means you're in charge of this place, right?"

"I um...y-yes?"

"Yep!" You pull back the enthusiasm in an attempt to not scare her off, but continuing on without missing a beat. "So that means you can tell me if you want to, at least since I'm also a princess. So please? I um...I beg you...!" It seems that Lisa is going to carry the secret a bit longer, but starts nodding as she rationalizes everything you've said.

"Okay. But princess promise you can't tell..."

"I won't!" At your promise Lisa beckons you to lean down, her small hands cupping around your ear as she whispers.

"John said it was an order for the King."

"Who's the King...?"

Lisa shrugs at this, only offering; "Elvis?" You doubt that question really has an answer, but you've gotten all you can from Lisa in the mean time. No use in trying to push her, you only thank her for what she's given. To her discomfort you remain silent, trying to think over this. From downstairs Aria's voice is covered briefly by the baby's cry before her own frustration can be heard again, traveling to the kitchen to help with the baby.

You'd hate to bring up anything unnecessary and stir up trouble, but you feel oddly watched.

Do you want to try talking about this with someone else when the opportunity comes?

Maybe we've just been spending more time with Lawrence than... seems reasonable, and it's made John a little suspicious.

... maybe just mention it to Lawrence and keep calm for now. We'll figure something out, hopefully not involving spending even less time with Lawrence.

Through the thin, flimsy paper walls of your visage, the light of your fire reaches the boy next to you. His head, or rather wick, is burning brighter than ever in the twilight, the wax around it impervious to the heat.

“You should really turn that down. We might get spotted,” you say.

“Huh? This is a stealth mission?” he replies.

“…No but you might set the car on fire. Inferno’s sake Brand, wear a visage.”

“No. I can’t use my fire then.’

“Yeah and if you burn anything, you’re paying.”

You scratch at the lantern atop your shoulders, a motion that you complete out of habit, a residual trace of your old soul — or souls, rather. Taking out the new waxling for training, what a pain.

“C’mon gramps, I’m bored. When are we doing this?”

“I’m waiting to see if anyone’s coming.”

“Huh? They already walked in.”

“What?”

“The cadavers right? Oh jeez, get some glasses.”

You push open the car door, grumbling, “My fire is fine.”

Making your way to the trunk, you hear the kid get excited.

“Sweet, are we getting assault rifles? Oh, oh! Indigo, what about rocket launches? Or one of those cool scythes?”

“…What kind of money do you think I have?”

“Huuuh?”

Opening the back, the interior is illuminated with your blue light, revealing a lot of indentations for guns and not a whole lot of actual firearms. Except two magnum revolvers, both yours. Ah, a grim reminder of what happened last week at the warehouse: a reminder to not use salted ammo.

Brand peeks over, admiring your collection or lack thereof.

“What.”

“What?” you respond.

He turns his flame to you, violently swaying in the small breeze. You can’t read his expression, but you have a pretty good idea of what it is.

>”You get one. Please be very, very careful.”
>”Shut up and take one.”
>”Kids don’t get guns. These are for me.”
>”Just watch and learn, alright?”
>”You said you wanted to use your fire right? No guns.”

”You get one. Please be very, very careful.”

“You don’t have to tell me. Jack taught me how to use them.”

“…Please be very, very, very careful.”

The two of you approach the ruined house. Before you even try to enter, you can already hear loud incoherent mumbling from inside. Quietly, you turn the doorknob. Locked, of course. You can’t turn into spooky mist like Smoke can, but you do know the classic trick of doorbusting.

Two knocks on the door.

“Pizza delivery!”

A slurred murmur arises from the other side, “P…pizza? Annyof yah guhys oordured pizza?”

Footsteps amble near the door before a reply can be heard, and the answers the cadaver get midway are moans and grunts. Blocking the peephole with your finger, you listen as the moron inside makes some mouth sounds of curiosity and begin to unlock the door.

You turn to Brand, “Don’t miss.”

Sidestepping, you move out of the way as he lines up the shot. The light of your flame barely peeks over the corner, letting you watch as the walking corpse dumbly peek out, and then as his rotting brains be excavated onto the wall behind.

“I know.”

A rattling can be heard as you try to force open the door.

“Chain,” you say.

I know.”

The blaze above his wax jumps out, melting through the chain lock with a single pass. He pushes the way through, and you follow him. What greets you down a hallway is a gang of cadavers. Heavily armed cadavers. Tugging Brand’s coat, you pull him and yourself out of the way, the sound of bullets whizzing too close for comfort.

“Oh fuck!” the kid exclaims, “Thanks.”

“At least now I can start to fill my trunk back up.”

“Now what?”

Roll 1d100, best of three.

>”Wait till they calm down, then charge in, guns blazing.”
>”Around back.”
>”Bait them, and try to not get hit.”
>”Through the wall. Mind making a hole?”

You wake up in a room, there is a small table with a vase on top of it. The room is covered in a flower patterned wallpaper, and there is a door on the east side of the room. On the west side there is a note tacked up against the wall, and there is a small bulge under the wallpaper on the west wall. The north wall has a painting of a man looking quite angry about something on it. The south wall has nothing on it.

poke the bulge with the vase

you move over to the vase and pick it up, it seems oddly heavy, you then poke the bulge in the wallpaper and a spike swiftly protrudes from it, putting a perfect hole in the bottom of the vase about the size of a walnut. a small section of the floor under the spike opens up, as if it's ready to drain something.

closer inspection of the vase shows why it's so heavy. there was a false bottom on the inside and the hole gave access to the small chamber in it.

It was a rain soaked day, the air was cold and heavy, in an almost oppressing way. It was the sort of weather that made one want to simply stay inside, listening to the rain fall and the wind howl. But Shinigami didn't have such luxuries, or at least most of them didn't. Work still had to be done, and while a good few of them complained the day of work started and continued without much trouble.

"Graaah" A man with a thin mustache and fading hair groaned, running his hand over his increasingly bald head "Why did we have to be the ones stuck here huh? I'd rather be purging hallows than standing out in this weather"

"Oh I know what you mean" Another soul reaper groan, a man missing two of his teeth, with a somewhat puffy nose "today is just terrible, and we have to stand outside doing what? some menial task while we get all soaked to our bones"

Both of them sighed, as they struggled to clear a particularly heavy branch that happened to crash into the side of their barracks.

"Knew we should've cut down that tree" the balding soul reaper growled "it's been nothing but trouble, it's practically made us servants, the bastard"

"Hey, I like it, it adds character and some much need ergh, flair I guess" the second grunts, as he and his comrade toss the branch into the growing pile.

He pauses holding his back with a wince "Alright, I agree with you, we should've cut this thing down ages ago, lets take a break before we cripple ourselves"

"Oh how quick you are to switch sides" The first cackles "Also did you hear?"

"What?" the second asks, sitting under the tree as another massive branch cracks under its own weight

"We're being joined by the kuchiki's hound" the first says, glancing around like he's saying something unspeakable

"She joined the 13th?" the second asks tiredly, picking his nose

"No you idiot, I meant she decided to become a soul reaper" the first grunts, as he leans against the tree "Why would she join the 13th? A hound never leaves her master"

"Puh, I don't know, I thought maybe she just decided to pick at random" the second sighs shaking his head "Of course she'd join the sixth, perfect place for someone so close to the Kuchiki clan, still wonderful she actually becoming a Shinigami, heard she's quite talented"

"Oh she is, I saw her when they dragged her back from her second hunt...I don't know how she was still breathing, it looked like they dragged her out of a hollow's stomach" The first says, shuddering as he stares at the cloud filled sky "So many scars...I tell ya, she's something else, if she can still fight like that lookin like she does"

"Oh I've seen her, its a real shame, she has such a pretty face but its all scarred up" The second sighs sadly, wiping his face clean of rain

"How can you say that?" the first says tilting his head "she has hair like an old woman's and her eyes...its like she's planning on killing you if you make one wrong move, they're just so cold looking. Still, going to be hard for that poor girl to find a lover"

"Oh I wouldn't say that" the second cackles, smiling perversely as his friend looks at him in confusion

"What?" He asks, tilting his head "the hell you on about? She makes an old cutting board look new!"

"Well, I'm just passing on what a friend told me, a drinking buddy I meet up with every now and again" the other says slowly "But I heard she's more than just Kuchiki's hound"

"the hell are you saying?" the first asks, scratching his bald head "Oh, that old rumor...it is a little strange isn't it? I mean, I knew a girl who was trying to court a man and even she didn't spend as much time around him as she has"

"Oh maybe they're already a" the second says excitedly, before a hand rests on his shoulder gently

"Spreading rumors is really quite rude" A soft, caring voice says "You do know that right?"

"Ah, captain Ukitake!" Both of the soul reapers shout, rushing to their captain's side "What are you doing out here? this weather isn't the sort you should be in"

"Oh I'm fine, thank you for you concern" the man said softly, his white hair blowing in the wind "I just wanted to take a short walk, to enjoy the smell of the rain"

"Ah....sorry" the second man said, as he let go of his superior's arm "So how much did you hear"

"Enough, I'm disappointed in you two" the captain says sadly, shaking his head "Talking about a comrade like that is just...it isn't right, you understand? Rumors are dirty little things that do nothing but ruin someone's reputation just for gossip, its just rude to go around and spread them like they're fact"

The two shinigami frown, looking guilty as the white haired captain chuckled.

"Oh don't worry, I'm not angry with you two, just disappointed, now I'd ask you to apologize to her directly but" Ukitake said slowly, looking "Well you still have plenty of work to get done, just please, for other's sake, don't go spreading rumors alright?"

Both of the shinigami nod, and go back to work, their kimono's fluttering in the wind, soaked and wet as they start to pull more broken branches down from the tree.

"Oh, and be sure to not overwork yourselves" the captain said, as he continued on, his sandals crunching the tree's fallen leaves as he slowly walked along "Just don't spend your break spreading nasty rumors, okay?"

The two shinigami nodded, as they went back to tending to the tree, and the grounds around it. The sickly captain smiled.

"Maybe I should pay her a visit myself sometime" he thought to himself "She seems like a pleasant girl, and from what I know of her, is one of the few that can call themselves truly honorable"

"You know" I say slowly as Aya looks up at me with a beaming smile "I'm pretty sure you're usually in a bad mood this early in the morning, are you that excited about being a Shinigami?"

"Of course I am! I could barely sleep!" She shouts happily, grinning widely as her new black Kimono drags along the ground, its too large for her, and makes her look even younger than she is...or looks..Never asked how old she is, now that I think of it "And what are you saying Kimi chan? I'm never awake this early?"

"No, you just don't remember, because you always fell asleep the second you were done growling and grumbling angrily" I say calmly as Aya's face turns bright red as she looks away from me "Honestly, with how much you draw me as an Oni...you're more like one than I am, in the morning at least"

"Hey, that isn't very nice" Aya huffs, crossing her arms "Sheesh, its not my fault about any of that, I need my sleep as much as anyone else"

"Really? I always thought you just spent all night running around" I say sarcastically "and didn't need sleep"

"Oh yeah, I just left a dummy in my bed" She snorts, smiling still "You've found me out sis, I actually go and hunt down criminals in my free time"

"Oh, no wonder the streets are so safe" I say happily, adjusting the cobalt blue sash I'm wearing across my waist, the same color of my division "You've been fluttering around cleaning them up, and spreading justice eh?"

"Of course" She chuckles, in a sloppy imitation of a noble woman's laugh, puffing her chest out as she grins widely "But that is just one of my secrets, ya know! I've got plenty more"

"No wonder they made you a shinigami a year early" I say proudly, giggling as I walk by my little sister's side "they were afraid you'd clean to deeply, or maybe they were worried about those secrets of yours, huh, little sis?

"Yeah" She says frowning slightly, slouching slightly as her voice loses its youthful, energetic cut "Still, that's nothing special at all compared to you...I mean I'm good at Hohō and all, but you're good at...everything"

What do I say?
[] No I'm not, I'm just a quick learner
[] Aya, come on, lets be honest here. You outpace me, and that means you'd beat me nine times out of ten

[]Well...I need to hurry up Aya, I can't be late on my first day either...just remember to be careful, alright?
[] I lived most of my life in battle, Aya. Don't compare yourself to me, I'm good because I have worked everyday to become as skilled as possible
[] Then try to surpass me
