I want to start taking photos with something that's not my phone, but I want it to be something that's easy to carry around.
I can't stop hearing about the Ricoh GR here. Do I take the plunge with this, or do I look into the Fujifilm X100S/T?
Which would you recommend for a beginner who doesn't want a DSLR and is probably not going to upgrade this camera for a while.

/p/ is Facebook trier when it comes it criticism, but instead of a Like you'll get "your shit sucks" or "kill yourself". While both of these answers are valid for most of the pictures posted on here, because your pictures are Facebook trier as well, they don't really help the photographer improve.
We've had critique threads in the past and they didn't really work out as well, everybody just posted their stuff and very few people actually left a critique. Let's try something new:
I'll take my time to leave you an in depth critique of your work. I'll analyze the technical aspects as well as the picture language. I'll try my best to help you improve and become a better photographer if you follow my simple rules:
>board rules apply
I won't critique at any needlessly large pictures
>no snapshits
I won't critique your holiday pictures or similar stuff, chose a picture you think is worth it
>tell me about your picture
What was your intention of doing it, what did you try to convey? I'll spend my time with your work, so I'm expecting you to help me understand your point of view. A little background is enough, you don't need to write an essay.
That's it. If any of you would like to join in and start a discussion I'd appreciate it. Let's talk about pictures on here for once.

first of all, I'm happy (and a little impressed) to see a thread like this and I really hope it turns out well. You're helping making this board better.
I'm interested in your opinion on this shot I took at some busy shopping street at Rome. Already made a whole thread showing some of the shots, but it's gone now.. shot bw film at night and had to push it to 1600 to get some useable shutter speeds, hence the grain. Didn't do anything to the scan except for stamping out dust. Someone suggested straightening it, but as this means cropping out parts that were in the original frame, I chose not to.
thank you in advance and if you don't mind I can also give my opinion on the photos of others.
>>2748553
because only few people open threads for their photos due to the "critique" usually given in RPT. I guess especially beginners are less likely to open their own thread when single shots they took are already called "shit" in some RPT before.

2 landscape shots stitched to make a square because I put a lot of images on insta. Been trying to experiment with pushing saturation in an eye pleasing way, tweaking the hue and altering saturation in relation to specific luminosities. Let's see those compacts /p/
Scored this on sale a couple months ago, normally I don't do low light with compacts but I can handhold 1/5th second at 200 ISO and the flippy screen lets me shoot it like a Hassy or Mamiya RB
For a waterproof and shockproof around 200 it can't be beat. There's an upgraded version with an F2 lens but this one seems to work well. My only complaint is no manual exposure or Av modes but if you're careful you can cheat the program mode into doing what you want. It even does ISO 6400 and the grain doesn't look too horrible for a compact.

I have a Pana LX-5 and I love its manual controls and the 1:1 crop ratio. But yeah I wish it has a flippy screen as well for street photography.
From a photoshoot I did recently.
I want to know what the /p/ros think.

I'm pretty excited about the better EVF, that was the main thing holding me off. And if the AF is even marginally better, that'll be a big win as well. Shame it's so similar to the a6k tho.
>sony probably didn't want to cannibalize their a7 by making the apsc really good.
and they also didn't want to waste a fuckton of R&D money when they can just camp on the A6000 specs because there's still nothing that can directly compete with it. Plus it's selling extremely well.

Since you don't film
I posted up 3 months ago or so and you guys helped a painfully new noob with the basics and since then I've gotten bit pretty good with the photography bug. I've run a couple rolls of black and white through my camera and called up my developer and they don't do black and white anymore, so I called another place, they pointed me to a place in TX, and they pointed me to a place in CA neither of which do it anymore.
I'm sure I could find a place on Google, but if I'm going to send them off, I would rather go to a place that I know others have had good success with them.
I do it in my bathroom, it's very simple and cheap
>>2758847
Real hardcore motherfuckers like me do it themselves, but you could try indie film lab, the darkroom, dwaynes, old school photolab etc

If he takes good photos, why the fuck does it matter? If he gets booked a lot, why the fuck does it matter? If the clients are happy, why the fuck does it matter?
Why should someone's gear be a barrier to entry? Terry Richardson almost exclusively (or used to, anyway) used cheap point and shoots for his work, and he's been in just about every magazine there is to be in
How can I use Photoshop to make the face he is making in the reflection on the right his reflection on the pic on the left
>>2758580
Careful selecting and transparency I guess. I suppose you'd have to somehow remove the original reflection. Maybe you could just burn it out because of the black background.

Damn, a big part of photography is the adventure aspect. Searching for subjects in your environment, and expressing yourself through how you capture them in a photo is a great feeling. You're missing out, man. It's your thing, but you're definitely missing out.
Sure, a ship is safest in port, but that's not what it's really meant for
