#60-">tfw Too Hot" Edition

Previous Thread:
>>799033

Catfishing last night was a failure, although I did kinda half ass it. I guess I'll just go for more bass and sneks today. Only problem is it's so damn hot with this FL sun. I'll probably lounge around, then go waste some money at Bass Pro, and go out to a lake around 5pm or 6pm.

It's Saturday, y'all better be out there too.

Talk about fishin

Personally, I'd rather use a dolley like those game carts with the large bike-looking wheels. They are really nice for carrying massive amounts of stuff.

They didn't summit though

Does /out/ forage for anything?

Not necessarily food or hunting.

Im planning to gather pine resin for a few projects and maybe try to find some decent sized logs to age for woodworking. Watched a few videos of people digging for amber and other precious stones but i doubt ill find any of those.

Curious what /out/ does besides practice pyro skills or sleeping while innawilderness

I hunt, fish and trap. Forage for mushrooms during spring and fall, berry pick during the spring and fall. I do loads of foraging.
>>
>>800156
Im scurred to try mushroom or berry foraging.

Bought a few guides, but when i go out and try i feel like said plants dont match worth a damn. Next step it to look up mushroom or foraging clubs but they're all near the cities rather than nearby rural places.
>>
>>800178
This is all down to a game of patience. You're not going to be an expert on foraging wild plants or mushrooms overnight or even over a few years. You need to take it slow, and be meticulous. Try to make no more than one or two positive identifications each time you go out, but even then, that's optimistic. For a lot of plants you may need to watch them for a while (like throughout the season) to really feel like you know what they are. be aware of when and where you are finding something. I don't know the best guide for the rockies (I'm assuming that's where you are from pic related) but For the midwest and northeast, I recommend Samuel Thayer's books. Nature's garden is a nice starter guide.

Op here. From South Gloucestershire, walked most the Frome Valley Walkway, its the only decent route there is. Most of the landscape is shitty flat fields filled with cow shite.
I have to travel outside the region to get any good walks.

Ive been eyeing the Oru line of Kayaks and am leaning towards purchasing one even if the price is a little out of my range.

Is there another brand of portable kayaks I should be looking into, or should I just for over the money to get an attachment for my coupe?

Im just looking for a cost effective way to get into kayaking.

i live a short walk to a bay/beach. its too long for a haul up and down but it would be beyond stupid to drive. plus storage in my apartment is an issue. I am hoping that we will see a price drop in the next six months (although doubtful) or an off brand knock off because it really would make the most sense for me to have.

g'day fellas

I'm a /p/hotographer and I love the /out/doors, recently introduced to this board.

Any kiwis on here or tourists in NZ? I wanna head down south to the alps. I don't mind going alone but it's always good to have company. All my mates are broke or don't like hikes. I'll be primarily headed for photos. Trying to keep it as cheap as possible - drive there from Auckland (I can pick you up on the way if you live south of Auckland), it'd be nice if you have a tent, but we can always hire a room.

Any questions etc - post below!

Ive heard Bushcraft by mors kochanski and bush craft by richard graves are the only two books you really need to know how to survive.

How true is that? If you don't entirely agree what books would you add to read?

This has been my personal outdoors bible since I've been interested. Some of it is pretty silly (Who would ever want to make a hat out of bark?) but seeing how I live in the southwest, there's a LOT more useful information in here than Mors' book, which is focused more in the north. It's chock full of useful tidbits. The only thing I'd debate is treatment of snakebites, but that's a huge shitshow to begin with.
