Got myself a bike that I'm preparing for a 5000 km trip. I haven't done anything so big, that's not to say I believe I'm ill prepared.
What are some things to consider when being on the road for a few weeks? Maybe I'm missing something?
You're not going to ride that bike for 5000 km.

Who is your favourite explorer?
Secondary question:
What is your favourite expedition?
I'm not too versed in muh explorers but Shackleton is pretty bad ass.
Although the golden age of exploration is still king - Magellan, Drake, Cook, Columbus, Núñez, Polo

Shackleton is a bad-ass, can't be topped. "Endurance" is a very good /out/ book, everybody should read it. Amundsen is also seriously cool.
Went out to Pisgah this weekend and it got me thinking. I'd like to thru hike a portion of the AT over the course of two weeks to a month with someone who is just as interested to make that happen. I can't do the whole thing but I'd like to begin chunking it out, starting from GA.
Has anyone here done it before, who could share some information on meeting others who would be interested? I do know I can meet plenty of others on the trail. If anyone is interested in giving it a shot, let me know because I'd like to start talking about it ASAP and get something planned for 2017.

I'm a hot chick with low self-esteem and into cutting.
I'll go with you!

Wow! That sounds great!
good taste in Pisgah me friend. try the lower elevations in that Wilderness Area. some neat stuff.
So /out/, anyone else out there live in tents during the summer? Pic related is part of my setup in northern Minnesota, a mile from Lake Superior. This is the second year I've done this. AMA I guess.
Comfy af
Love the setup. What was the overall cost? How long do you stay out? What's your typical day like?
What the hell is in this state? Any good places to look around? Preferably on the Western side of the state.
The state is amazing but don't tell anyone.
North Central is the best part but there is cool /out/ stuff all over

Wheeler Peak is alright I guess, and the Taos ski valley. Taos proper is alright... Pretty hippy dippy though and too much adobe and turquoise.
My wife is from acoma Pueblo. We will be going there in august . I'll let you know then. Excited to explore some lava tubes
Hey whats the best material or design for camouflage, particularly in an urban area?
....wut?
Does material really matter that much? And for urban? Wtf are you doing OP?
yeah OP where you at?
flecktarn, right?
I'm looking for a 2 person 3 season tent light enough to backpack with. What does /out/ recommend? Also, general tent thread.
just bought:

the other day. looks like quality and is lighter then average. Keep in mind though I'm 6'2 200lb /fit/ so I can muscle the thing. It's 7x7ft at 6.25 lbs
I bought a coleman Flatwoods II. 4 person. It is a little heavier at 9lbs, but it is really good in harsh weather. I was having 30mph gusts and rain and it stayed up and kept me dry. Also, it isn't too bad on the bank. Picked mine up for about 60 bucks.
im having a hard time as well,

Hi not sure exactly what I can do for this girl, I think it's a Peruvian torch I'm not sure but I rescued it from a friend where it was like behind his toaster where it would apparently get splashed from his sunk enough to keep it alivr. It was a tiny little cluster and I've had it now for 3 months and it's looking better. Any tips on splitting it or whether I should just keep it as is ? Also is it a Peruvian torch which I think it's some type of trich. I'm just impressed I brought it back from the condition it was, it was the most sad looking thing ever

O thanks bud, actually I have my home made cactus blend under I just put that on top that I mixed with some stuff to keep a squirrel from digging it up lol
>>808576
It's healthy but there's like 10 cacti coming from the central space and all connected they aren't individual plants so I wasn't sure how to separate them since the one is doing so well. I feel like I adopted a kid from Kenya or something by helping this. Actually I'm sure this makes me happier then saving a kid would
Holy shit /out/ this guy I found on youtube.
>No survival experience
>Wants to see how long he can survive in the wild
>Has his friend drop him off at random stream in national forest
>Brings no map/gps or anything
>Only has tiny knife and shitty pot and chinese magnesium firestarter
>Wearing T-shirt and Jeans
>Tries to catch fish and ends up eating tiny minnows and failing at starting fire.
The best part is that im on episode 13 and he seems lost as fuck, obviously he somehow escapes but it seems like this guy could have easily died.

rofl this guy is a hugely popular IT instructional guy on youtube. I've watched his videos for a few years on programming.
This i gotta see...beautiful location to totally fail in
I wasn't sure where else to post this but I need some help.
I have some sunflowers growing in a large pot in my living room under a lamp near a window until they're big enough to survive outside on their own.
Problem is, something is killing them and I'm not sure what. I'm kind of new to planting stuff in general and I can't find anything specific online.
Basically whatever it is eats away at the stems and leaves, crazy fast. The leaves end up looking like they have some sort of spider-web film left on them after being wrecked but I see no bugs in the pot or anywhere in my house for that matter. It doesn't look like fungus either but obviously if I knew I wouldn't be here.
Anything helps. Here's a random nature gif.
do you have a picture

So fellas, I'm aTexan planning on doing some solo hiking up in rocky Mountain National park in late july/early August. I'm pretty much just used to trails down here, so I wanted to know if I needed to prepare for any wild game that far north. I'm totally fine with beer mace, but I wanted to make sure I didn't need to bring a firearm chambered in .45 lc before I went.
God forbid I look like a total animu autist with my 10 gallon hat and single action revolver if I don't have to.
Thanks for the input
>>808185
Rocky Mountain National park only has black bears. There are no grizzlies in Colorado
The only thing you have to fear from them is that they might steal your food
Firearms are prohibited in national parks.
Lame rule that I never understood.
So no matter where I look in regards to advice I never see information about things like visa's/border transit/legalities/etc.
Its all just "Top 10 things to pack" and useless things like that.
I dont even know where to start.
If I wanna backpack through Europe, working at small jobs along the way, do I need a work visa? Are they hard to get?
Is there a certain length of stay I am allowed in countries/regions? What if i want to stay longer?
Any help?
>>808172
just work on a tourist visa and be afraid of deportation
>>808172
The travel board is more your speed. Its where all the 'muh parents buy me everything' kiddos live. So they know these kinds of things.
>>808182
why would spoiled kids know these things, if they're spoiled then everything would be done for them.
