For defense I'd stick with hollow point for blunt trauma, which is where you want it. Stopping power.

I carry my Walther PP in .32 more or less to either halt/deter a human attacker, and as in Kansas, the largest animal would be a deer if it ever decided to charge me, which is highly unlikely unless you corner it.

I wouldn't go from owd, all the way to dive master in one go. I'd take it step by step in each area and log more dives before moving on. Its better to be a owe with 100 dives under you then be a dive master with 10dives. The name just says you can go this deep. I'd inquire about how many dives you will get in each section also get rescue diving under your belt and some other Tec dives. I'd wait till you hit 50 so dives before trying to go to dive master so your comfortable under water and have praticed and mastered your gear and the most effective ways to use it safely. PADI is a good company less pricey then other but they don't cover as much material in the OWC unless you go AOWC or higher. I personally like NAUI they have been around longer then PEDI and cover a bit of rescue diving in there OWC since being able to save your own ass and others is very important. But company is mostly a matter of preference really PEDI and NAUI are the most known and largest. BSAC SIDI are smaller but that doesn't mean they are worse or better then the big 2. Just really make sure you get a good instructor that will work with you and cares about you being the best you can, and safe doing so when underwater.

Get a temp job at a farm. Go from there. 15 acres is plenty of land for that type of thing. Looks like there's a house nearby so getting electric to that spot will be easy and not as expensive. It is always good to have redundancies in place for utilities, regardless of your level of self-sufficiency.

As for utilities yes it shouldn't be that difficult to hook up. The farm next door and the B&B way down the road are the only inhabited places for a good 50 or so k. This land is owned by the farm in the picture.

Im looking at prefab cabins to put on it to start, although i plan on something more substantial once I start making more money. Problem so far has been finding something thats winterized.

What im most confused on is winter sustainability. I have a great wood stove and a very high quality winterized wall tent so i have so i have done some week long excursions on crown land in the winter before but living for extended periods of times is new.

Catfishing and carpfishing can be more active you're active and make an effort to be where the fish are.

Too many people think you just toss out hooks covered in prepared bait as far as possible and wait 2 hours for a bite and if that doesn't work, then you keep waiting.

That'd be like bass fishing and only sticking with one lure, in one spot (ignoring structure and cover), casting to the same place, with the same retrieve, and hoping a fish will strike.

If you do cat fishing right, you'll be moving to different spots, catching live bait, targeting different areas, changing rigs and presentations, etc. Just like any other fish.

Flatheads especially are predators who usually won't hit anything other than a live swimming panfish.

Plus I usually take an ultralight rod to catch panfish for bait- thebiggest catfidh are almosy always consistently caught on live or cut fish- and if I'm having absolute zero luck, I can at least catch them.

If fall/winter/spring/high altitude, get some waterproof shoes or boots, and _maybe_ some waterproof/-resistant legwear.

Get a tarp for breaks.

#1 is footwear. It's ok to spend some serious money on your boots. Get a rain jacket, and a small pack cover wouldn't hurt. test that for a while. If that isn't enough, rain pants. There's lots of rain gear for a reason

Arcteryx Alpha is the Cadillac of hardshells. I have the pants too. I hike in Salomon Quests which are waterproof.

All you really need though is waterproof boots and a poncho. Although since you live in a rainy environment, it's nice to have more serious rain gear.
