Took small amount of LSD and had a mild trip, just a body high no visuals and walked/ran 50-55 miles for the duration of the 10 hour trip.

Not sore at all. Literally no blisters, feel great. This is 24 hours later roughly.

Should I consider doing endurance things professionally? I really had a good time doing it and considering the amount of complaints this board has for anything over 15 miles a day I've got to say I impressed myself.

Was in Daniel Boone National Forest for 100% of it. No roads, some backyards but mostly trails and animal paths.

Yes, I have clear memory of the path I took I know this area very well so I also know the distance and have confirmed via google Earth, 3 times over before posting. The distance is no mistake.

I did running in high school but have not trained recently.

What's your favorite type of terrain? I personally find the rolling hills and river valleys in the "driftless area" of southwestern Wisconsin to be quite beautiful.

Are you really surprised that your $20 chinkshit filter crapped out on you?

Anyhow, most folks seem to go with Sawyer filters these days. Fairly cheap and very small/light. Probably won't last as long as a MSR, but they're less than half both the price and the size.

Basically you fill one of the pouches it comes with with dirty water, then hook the pouch up to the filter and squeeze it. Clean water comes out the other end. Just make sure you don't ever use the dirty water pouch for clean water as it'll undoubtedly contaminate it.

no not bait lol just wanted to start a convo on using kukris for survival

I don't really understand much about knives or blades in general, but shouldn't a kukri work much like any other knife with the exception you have to wield it in a different way due to the curvature of the blade?

I'd expect people are going to call bait because they think it's unecessary and you're just trying too hard. Good luck OP

Hey /out/,

I'm a second year college student planning to graduate with a bachelor's degree of geology with a minor in physics.
What kind of jobs do you experienced /out/doorsmen have/know about, and are there any specific jobs you guys would recommend that allow me to be outside pretty often? I know this is a decision I need to make for myself and do some proper research, I just thought I'd ask here first.

We can turn this into an /out/ career thread general I guess

Yeah my professors have told us we will probably need to specialize eventually.

Do you know any specialized career paths (volcanology, hydrology, structural geology, whatever) that let me work outside at least a few times a month?
>>
>>797889
Pretty sure if you're trained in petroleum or mineral exploration you'll have plenty of opportunity to work outside in the arse end of nowhere.

Sup /out/ can we have a campsite books thread going? Was thinking of buying pic related to take the next few trips this summer. Also thinking about getting a copy of the Revenant, might give it a try.

Any suggestions? What do you guys read at the camsite/ Innawoods?

I don't mean books on survival and bushcraft and technical stuff like that. Sometimes I just like a nice story.

The weather
The trail

I've been challenged to walk a large portion of the south-coast of England.
I have some experience in camping, but that was only doing D of E, and all my equipment was awful because I was a poorfag.
Can anyone from /out/ tell me what equipment I need without breaking the bank too much, I expect to be travelling a few weeks (I do have enough money to stay in hotels every now and again, and with airBnB I don't have to be camping every night).

camping isn't necessary at all

all of the seaside towns/cities are so close to each other you can just eat/sleep in each one every lunch & night
>>
For food I personally wouldn't spend a lot on expensive camping food. Because of all of the towns on the coast I'd say it would be a lot easier and cheaper to just buy food from supermarkets day-by-day.
>>
>>796557
That's what I was planning, heading to tesco or whatever shop each day when I head through a town to pick up some food, or eating in a cheap cafe for lunch.
I was planning to carry about a days worth of food at any one time to for camping and keeping costs down as I dont want to fork out on eating in a cafe every lunch.
Cans on all day breakfast and shit is what I was planning, I have a little gas stove already that I could use.

>>796555
It would be quite expensive to pay for a room every night for a few weeks. I was planning on camping mostly in campsites along the way to keep my costs as low as possible, I now for a fast there are a fuck ton of camp sites on the south coast.

You are right, sir. I stand corrected

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/wolf-bear-bait-joanne-barnaby-nwt-1.3636604

>What's the best way to fend off a wolf that's stalking you? Bait it with a bear cub, of course.

>It sounds incredible, but that's exactly what Joanne Barnaby did when she got into a terrifying situation while out picking morel mushrooms near Fort Smith, N.W.T., last Friday.

>Barnaby and her friend Tammy Caudron headed out to an area burned by wildfires to spend an hour or two searching for the elusive morels. They soon became separated, leaving Barnaby alone with her loyal dog, Joey.

>Once her pail was full of mushrooms, she turned to head back toward her truck.

>"I heard this growl behind me. There was a long, tall, very, very skinny wolf. A black wolf. And his legs were spread and his hair was standing, and he was growling, and baring his teeth."

>Joey charged the animal, but the wolf stood its ground.

>"I don't think Joey expected that," Barnaby says. "I didn't want him hurt, of course, but I also knew that if the wolf got Joey, I'd be next."

>The wolf started pacing back and forth in the direction of the truck. Barnaby says it was forcing her to go farther east, away from the highway.

>"It took me a while to realize that he knew what he was doing. He was trying to wear me down. He was trying to separate Joey and I," she says.

>"I think he was weak. He didn't look healthy. He looked old to me ... I don't think he wanted to take us both on."

>What followed was a 12-hour hunt. The wolf continued to pursue Barnaby and Joey, as they were pushed farther from her truck.

>"He was dogged. He was just determined," Barnaby says. "I was in trouble."

>Barnaby said she became dehydrated, her calves and thighs were aching, and there was another vicious attacker that was testing her mental strength.

>"I was going crazy with mosquitoes. There were zillions of mosquitoes."

>At about 4:30 a.m., Barnaby heard a loud noise. She quickly recognized it as a mother bear. Listening closely, trying to drown out the buzz of mosquitoes, sure enough she heard a cub respond from far away in the distance. The two bears had been separated.

>"I realized that there was a chance that the mother bear would tackle the wolf if she felt that the wolf was a threat," Barnaby explains.

>"So I made the choice of walking towards the cub."

>It worked. After walking about 20 minutes, Barnaby's dangerous plan paid off.

>"I heard this big crashing behind me and realized that the mama bear had attacked the wolf, or maybe the other way around, I don't know, but they were fighting and I could hear the wolf yelping and I could hear the mama bear growling and I could hear all this crashing and I just took off!"
>>
>>795659
>Finally free of the wolf, Barnaby and Joey both "perked right up" when they saw a lake.

>"I had brought one can of beer with me. Silly choice," she laughs. "That little can of beer ended up saving my life."

>She drank can after can of water and finally took a break.

>"I started praying to not let the mosquitos drive me insane. Then I just started talking to people I love, some of whom are still with us, some of whom have passed.

>"As I talked to them and told them how much I loved them," Barnaby said, her voice breaking, "everything they mean to me, it energized me, and I was determined to see everybody again.

>"All night I had been making decisions of sorts, but this one was a decision to live and it was really powerful."

>When the pair finally climbed onto the highway Saturday morning, Barnaby saw vehicles parked on the road about a kilometre away.

>"I was like, 'OK, we're good. We're really good.'"

>A police truck, carrying a local RCMP officer and a Parks Canada worker, drove to Barnaby and Joey.

>"They both jumped out of the truck and we had big hugs, and of course they were full of questions, but they didn't have any bug spray for me! I couldn't believe it!" she laughs.

>Barnaby is still kicking herself for not bringing her gun into the bush, calling it a "huge mistake."

>"Don't do what I did. Don't go without your gun," she says. "Anything can happen.

>"If I had had that gun, it would've been a very short situation."
