You're in a car, wtf.
So it's a road, not a trail.
Get out and walk you faggot.
>>801844
There called trucks and no I will not get out an walk it's 115 outside and we call them trailes in the offroading community you double faggot
>>801858

>tell myself I'm going to go hiking tomorrow on my day off
>tomorrow comes and I'm too unmotivated
>later I regret wasting my day
Who else
shit, man. Me too often
that's why there are two days to the weekend
Me three... How do I fight this?
not once has that ever happened to me.
i wake up, head out, relax at the end
like... why would you not go outside on such a shit day?
Which is better for camping/survival?
Box of matches or a small bag of lighters?
>>801455
>>801480
You can't have both. you have to save space
>>801455
lighters don't afraid of anything anon and they're easier than Canadian japgirls. plus one-hand-no-fuss operation.
Trying catch these fuckers up here in Wisconsin, at home I just put chicken liver and a can of cheap cat food in a nylon and use that, but I can't find any chicken liver up here and so I threw in a can of sardines and a can of cat food in and haven't caught so much as one. I also had buy a cheap trap up hear because my homemade one that I love doesn't conform to state laws.
Any tips from any native Wisconsinites on how to catch these little cusses?
>>800154
does chicken normally work then?
put a butterfly net in the water behind them, then put a stick in there little revolting faces. they will jet back into your net.
I scored a free military poncho like pic related. It's Vietnam vintage and in decent shape but it has several pin sized holes in it.
Can I patch all these? If so what with? Would it even be worth it?
Thanks.
>>807894
> can I patch holes
> how
> is a ponch that doesn't leak worth it
Yes.
Silicone.
Yes.
>>807894
it's a versatile piece of kit. rain gear, pack cover, shelter, quasi-bivy, ground sheet, ponchos are the shit. You could use tenacious tape or high quality duct tape. I personally can't attest to silicone, but it seems like a good call.
>>807897
> is a ponch that doesn't leak worth it
I know it's worth it. I was wondering cost of a new one versus labor to fix it.
How would I go about using silicone? Just dab it on there or use it as an adhesive for some rubber patches?
Are there methods to sharpen your knives without special tools? And on the topic of knives, is there a Polish /out/ist who can tell me about the laws around knives in Poland?
What do you define as "special"? Wet stones are one of the oldest as far as sharpening blades and has been one of the more effective methods for it. There hundreds of companies that make them at varying qualities, grits, and sizes. If you're looking for techniques; there are a lot on YouTube and several webpages with people showing how to sharpen a blade with various tools.

Anything bought specifically for sharpening knives such as wetstones. But thanks.
>>807878
The bottom of a ceramic coffee mug where it isn't glazed. Works really well for a fine edge. If the knife is beat up or really dull, the coffee mug will take forever though and you might want some type of stone.

Hey /out/ I have a question about vehicles. I have a 4runner with a decent engine and tires but it's only 2 wheel drive. My question is, if i want to go innawoods or innamountains, would it be worth it to try and make my current setup more /out/, shocks and such, or would it be better to find a 4wd?
Tldr; how important is 4wd?
>>807370
>If you're not driving a 4wd monster truck to Starbucks for a $6 coffee, like 96% of all 4wd owners, you will surely die
Embrace the meme.
4wd is mostly a waste. It costs more, makes for a worse drive and mpg and isnt needed except if you are a manlet
>>807370
Get stuck a few times and then ask yourself if you need it. Until then get a winch and a high lift jack and learn how to use them
Hi. I'm about to be homeless. I have no car, no money and no job. How do i do this
>>807309
Have you thought about prostitution?
>>807312
I dont think that's a good idea.
This is scary. Am i about to have to prostitute myself to live?
at least you have internet
Some friends and I are hiking from Coahuila to Texas.
Any tips? What should we bring or leave behind?
>>807304
> bring humility
> leave behind ego
Everywhere you go.
He's hiking to Texas not Alberta
>>807304
Reported and will be deported
Hey guys, I'm new here and idk if this has been asked before but how do you reconcile your outdoor activities with your university/work?
I'd love to do more outdoors stuff but I'm a full time student in a big city that I'm stuck in for most of the time.
>>807066
Vacation time and sick days.
Also putting off real world priorities. I need to do laundry today, but I really want to go fishing so I will probably be wearing boxers with holes in them all week.
>>807066
I did the easy thing and picked Forestry to study.
>>807066
There is no magic way to enjoy the outdoors a lot and run the ordinary adult life.
With some exceptions, like working/living in a place with lots of /out/ destination a few hours drive away, it's just not possible.
So vacation times carefully planned ahead and... setting priorities.
I've probably sacrificed some promotion and pay raises because I skipped work socializing nights so I have a longer weekend out doors, or to go climbing etc.
I risked getting rejected when looking for a new job because I had a month long vacation planned for the summer and brought this up as a precondition in the interviews (going into vacation 2 months from the time I started a new job).
Yes, it takes sacrifices. It's about priorities.
I want to move to find work and move to Colorado or somewhere in the states where I would be able to drive to 3k-4k mountains (I'm not from the US).
This is going to end the progress I've been making in my current job in terms of knowledge, respect gained and human relations. But fuck it.
Always when i go out for a Walk/run both my lower legs feels like swelling. It doesnt matter what shoes im wearing.
After 5 min is starting to hurt and feels more and more until i have to rest somewhere. This continues for a couple more times. Walk rest and Walk. After a while it just disappears and can Walk as much my enegry takes Me without having to rest from leg pain.
How do i stop this
I tried stretching but doesnt seem to help. Only thins that works is sitting down and massage my lower legs and wait for the tension in The legs to go away
/fit/ would be a better place to ask this anon
>>806947
Maybe go to a doctor, often these things can be fixed.
>>806947
Sounds like osteoarthritis, better get your legs amputated and replaced with blades m8.
hey guys,
i'm planning to go on a longer backpacking trip alone and mostly on foot
i have done this kind of thing before but not yet alone
do you maybe have any advice that might be helpful? like unusual equipment which is also very useful, something you would not instantly think off
help is much appreciated
>>806600
It's not about gear. It's about a mindset.
Being alone your margins of error are much much slimer and you have to be very aware of that.
It depends on the trail though, if it's highly popular and many walk it each day, then it's marginal in most aspects.
If you could stay stranded for hours/days... you'll need to take more risks and think things through/prepare.
Things like crossing a river, especially with brown waters, become a lot more dangerous. Spending time finding a better crossing point, waterproofing your shit (I often don't bother if I feel like the river is easy enough when hiking with others, but when I'm alone I take no chances and have at least my sleeping bag in a drybag), etc and being ready to turn back...
That's just an example, but it's a mindset that you must embrace...
>>806613
since i'm walking through europe there is probably going to be a small village or farm around the way basically everywhere
my sleeping bag is always inside my backpack because weather might change very fast especially in the alps
>>806618
>since i'm walking through europe there is probably going to be a small village or farm around the way basically everywhere
Where in Europe? the above statement is not true for every place on the continent, or even in the western part.
Furthermore, a village 2km away won't help you if you've broken your leg or worse.
Or if you got all your gear wet trying to cross a river, slipping and falling into it. 10km away from a village while it's cold and raining... You still may get permanent damage, hypothermia etc. Now imagine you twisted your ankle...
I'm not saying don't cross a river and don't take risks when you're alone. Just that you need a different mindset, make sure you have a contingency plan before trying something dangerous and just generally be more careful.
Personally there are some things I'd definitely do in a group but avoid doing on my own.
I already looked up local species in my area (South Carolina) and it isnt on there. I didnt even think it was real until it started crawling away!
Bigfoot jizz
a spider
May be an Eastern Parson Spider. I looked it up, they look similar... but the Pardon Spider looks like it has coloring on its back.
I like cool looking bugs, can never get a picture to identify them though. I know every little about insects so I can never figure out what they are.
