It's because 1/2 ton trucks(I'm assuming you're looking for a 1/2 ton) aren't made for work anymore. I'd go with a 3/4 and 1 ton truck, but even then will most likely be extended or quad cab.
Personally I'd buy an older truck
-Easier to fix
-Don't have to worry about damage as much
-Availability of parts and known problems/solutions

I'm excluding the F150 because the available engines are nothing special(unless it's swapped with a 351C or 351W) The 460 is the best available option.

My only real problem with this is the first driver gets best advantage because of ruts.
