How fast do you drive /o/?

I regularly push 100+ mph sprints on short sections of the freeway that I'm familiar with enough to know there's no cops, and the most I've done is 130mph but I know my car can go more, I got cheapo tires on that I don't trust with my life.

How did I do /o/?

2009 Outback
Special Edition
four speed automatic (sport manual mode)
82k/mi
$13k

I've already started looking into changing the head gaskets , and will replace the timing belt at the same time probably around 110k.

I am in love , just wanting to know if I fell for a meme.

>>
I'd do the timing belt on schedule (and water pump), but not the head gaskets yet. I had an 03 Forester H4 4EAT that went well beyond 100k without any problems at all. The average for head gaskets seems to be 150K. My nephew has an 02 Outback with over 200K that is still on the original gaskets. Just keep an eye on the coolant and watch for evidence of leaks.

Until then just park the extra money in the bank and cross your fingers. Unless you're really itching to get ass-deep in the engine compartment with a flat 4 engine....

Last few days I spent my spare time making front a rear strut bars for my sentra. They're not perfect but made a huge difference in the cars handling characteristics, tracks much flatter. I can feel less noodling and more traction. Here are some pics of the work involved for anyone interested. First up i made a cardboard template of the strut tops, they will differ in shape and size front to rear and possibly even from right to left. mine were able to be mirror images making things alittle easier on me.

Also post pics and stories about what you've installed/fixed/made/broken on your car recently!

In order to get the circle cut out I used a drill press, once you've got the holes drilled all the way around you can use a hammer to pop out the center usually. try to support the metal around the outer edge when hammering to keep it flat.

I had to file down some of the larger gaps between the holes i drilled before the center would hammer out. Its better to take your time filing or possible using a hacksaw blade then to hammer the bracket out of flatness.

Thats real cool bro, not often you see this level of DIY.

I'm feeling a BMW 3 Series E36 (m3 or not)

Get a M3, otherwise look for a newer E46 330i.

328is E36 are nice, but piss slow. Good alternative to a 240SX/FRS/BRZ though once you swap a E36 M3 diff and E46 330i brakes on them though.

Yes. Hot air is less dense. Excessive humdity also impairs combustion, and excessive amounts of cold will fuck shit up.
I once had my brakes literally freeze while driving in winter. Any my current car complains if it's too cold or too humid.

Let's see

>ugly
>ugly
> and.... "muh aerodynamics"

What exactly does it mean when people say "this car has a soul"? It's just a piece of metal that goes from point A to point B... How can it have a soul? How do you quantify soul? There's no way to measure it or confirm that it exists... I think the reason why this phrase is so widespread is because of marketing fags. Think about it this way, you work at GM, new Z06 is about to be launched, the testing is almost done, some nerdy balding skinnyfat engineer runs into a boardroom where the CEO is having a meeting with the marketing department
>we just finished testing the Z06... it's slower than the GTR... what do we do?
>oh no worries, we'll just say the Z06 has a soul
That's the only reasonable explanation here. So if a company shits out some massive turd that gets smoked by the competition the marketing fags will keep pushing the soul meme.

Soul or character means it has slight imperfections that make it more relatable or pleasing then something absolutely perfect.

A computer can create an absolutely perfect playing of a piece of classical music. However hearing a great symphony. Each musician playing slightly differently on instruments with numerous slight variations in a concert with unique acoustics all adds up to a much more pleasing experience.

Technically the computer will be more 'accurate' but the imperfect humans on imperfect instruments will sound better.
>>
It's like how a RB sounds great with the popping rev limiter as opposed to the revs sounding consistent and non-poppy, BRAPAPAPAP vs BRAAAaaa
>>
>>14895787
It depends on who's using it.

If it's a company, they suck dicks, are blabbering marketing crap and nobody should buy their shit.

If it's a br/o/, he's probably had enough to maintain and repair on the car that he made it uniquely "his", or simply knows more about the car than any other car because he's been into all of its nooks and crannies to fix somehting. He built a special connection to it, something akin to love I suppose. That's when the term 'soul' is appropriate.

Post your car feel/love stories now.

2004 Ford Focus LX

Heres some issues I've had before.

Radio doesn't work. It seems like it works almost flawlessly during cold weather, and then nearly never during hot weather. Last year it was sporadic during Summer. This current Spring it hasn't worked at all, except once and even then, it shut itself off shortly after coming on.

A few months ago, I had a stalling issue. I thought it was either bad gas or a fuel pump mishap, but it turned out to just he exposed wire from the battery hook ups touching some other metal piece in the car, causing it to shut down. I sealed it up and fastened the battery in tightly so that it wouldn't move.

What I am dealing with now:

Again, I'm having a stalling issue. The battery is still tight and sealed so its not the same cause. In addition to the stalling, sometimes when I push down on the gas pedal, it seems like the car has problems running gas through the system. Like, the car will accidentally push more gas than I intended and cause the car the jerk forward. That happened a few times one day a couple of weeks ago. Then I pulled into a lot somewhere shortly afterward, and the car completely shut down on me.

It started up just fine and I was able to park properly. I drove back home and didn't have that issue again that day. I figured it was just bad gas. Since then, I've filled the tank up a few times, and again this last Tuesday, I had similar issue with the car jerking forward, accelerating on its own. On the drive up the dirt road back home, the car legitimately accelerated on its own. I know for sure because I had my foot on the brake instead of the gas when it did.

Now I'm afraid its the fuel pump. I'm waiting on my financial aid refund so I can drive the car down to a mechanic and have them check it out... I don't know jackshit about cars and my conclusions came from shit I read on google. What do you guy's think may be going on?

a failing fuel pump or low fuel pressure will not cause surge.
i'd check the throttle body and linkage. manual or auto?
>jerks forwards then stalls
could also be dropping the clutch if say some part of the clutch system is fucked.
>>
>>14895723
Auto...
>>
>>14895713
Surging is the IAC and can also be the reason for stalling. It controls the air allowed into the engine while the throttle body is closed.

Radio is probably a shitty connection or the headunit dying.

So VW officially met the deadline today to work out the resolution for dieselgate:

"...it looks like VW has met its deadline. Today, Judge Breyer announced in a court hearing that an “agreement in principle” has been reached. In the deal, VW will offer affected owners a buyback, a lease cancellation option, and also the choice to have their vehicles fixed (once the fix is approved by U.S. government officials), Auto News reports...

...The judge also announced that the agreement-in-principle—which is a term meaning that there are still a few odds and ends that need to be worked out before there’s an official contract—would also include “substantial compensation” for owners affected by the dieselgate scandal...

...Auto News says that the deal only applies to the 482,000 2.0-liter diesel-powered VWs and Audis, and not the 80,000 affected VWs, Audis and Porsches powered by 3.0-liter V6s. The report says negotiations on how to deal with the V6s are still underway...."

The real question will be what does VW elect to do with all the diesel powered cars they buy back? They aren't gonna crush them, so most likely dealerships will end up fitting whatever the emissions fix ends up being and trying to resell them.

Higher mileage/shitter condition ones will probably go to wholesale auctions like everything else. In certain markets, dealerships could be YEARS working through the emissions retrofit work, which will probably necessitate even some of the cleaner examples getting kicked to auction as well...depending on how things shake out, these things might drop to fire sale prices in about a year....
