Is Trump going to be the one that gets rid of all the bullshit 'safety' standards on cars? I want my cars to be made out of actual steel again, not fairy bullshit 'crumple zones' and 'soft air bag's or other libcuck nonsense
no
cars are better now and theyre not going back
>>16169194
What you should be wondering is whether Trump will make the grey market great again, God can only hope
Trump's not gonna do shit lol
So I need outside perspective on making a choice
within a few minutes I need to let this guy know whether or not I'm gonna buy his shitbox celica.
I have $2400 to my name, and the car costs $1500, I can sink the remaining $ into the car after registration/insurance ~$200
I should probably get something reliable to get me through college, but after my old car broke down and I sold it, my mother gave me our old family shitbox to use so I have fairly reliable transportation
I can either get a nice, low mileage 1996 corolla DX or something of that nature, or I can get a old-ass RWD Celica with 300k on it, but with the 22re rebuilt with all new seals, gaskets, honed/machined etc. A number of other things to bring it up to shape
All maintenance records and no rust
I kind of want to be spontaneous and be Takumi, because the car is basically an AE86 but also basically a Toyota pickup so I figure it would be pretty reliable
This decision will certainly have a profound impact on my life, presently and in the future - I can take the plunge in owning an 80's japbox project, or stick with the safety of a reliable commuterbox
First few replies decide my fate, i know it's a slow board
pic related, the celica
>>16169081
I also decided to get high as fuck for the first time in a while after looking at the car, and the whole prospect seems pretty romantic but idfk, if anyone's seen Mr. Nobody, the movie sums it up perfectly
>>16169082
>within a few minutes I need to let this guy know
Nope. Stopped reading right there. Don't fucking do anything under pressure. If he says he had another buyer let them take it. Whatever is supposed to be urgent is bull and likely meant to make you jump in feet first without thinking, so just stop and don't fucking do it. If it's still there tomorrow you can take your time and ask yourself why was the guy so desperate to unload this on me?
It's here boys.

SI BOYZ STAND UP
nobody cares about new shitbox boiracer cars when we can buy old shitbox boiracer cars
>>16169076
until the last one, I was able to accept it. but a small displacement Turbo Si seems like the car has lost everything it had special. now it's like every other boyracer car sold today.
I really want to install a Roush exhaust, but they only make axle backs. I really don't want to cut my car's OEM exhaust. Is there any way around this besides buying a cat back from another manufacturer? Those all cost over twice as much.
They sell flanges that you can weld on to mate custom exhaust pieces to oem exhaust. You may still have to modify the stock exhaust, but nothing that can't be undone by the same exhaust shop.
Got those on my 15 gt, seriously loud as hell with an x pipe.
>>16169336
Is it worth cutting through your original exhaust? I just don't want to make any irreversible changes to the car.
There's an IRC but complete faggots run it, I know there's a miata discord but it's dead af.
>>16168932
might start an unmoderated discord if there isn't already one

I'd join
OK /o/ I need some advice. I just changed the oil in my car and used 0w-20 instead of 5w-30 on accident. It's pretty cold where I live, would it be OK to go till my next change or should I drain it?
>>16168879
How the fuck do you mix up 0w and 5w? i can understand 20 vs 30.
It's fine. Enjoy the less wear on cold starts and better mpgs.
>>16168879
Drain it. Re-fill with 5w-30
What happened to the scrap metal business? I've had a cut up car for free on Craigslist for more than a month now and nobody has even contacted me on getting it. Is scrap metal worthless now?
>>16168860
It's a hell of hassle to gut a car on your own. Folks probably don't have the time anymore.
>>16168860
>Is scrap metal worthless now?
yes
Google it you dummy
>>16168860
Price of scrap has never recovered after it nose dived after the Beijing Olympics.
I have $20,000
Should I buy one of these for a new DD? How does it stack up vs other luxury sedans on this year/price range.
>>16168648
3rd gen a best.
Newest one is pigfat and hideous with the beak and tiny windows.
>>16168655
Is 14k cdn way too much to pay for a 08 tl with 98k kms, super clean?

Who here is fucking ready for some comfy ass snow drifting?
>highways at night in even larger cities are mostly cleared of people
>an entire city playground to yourself and bae (car)

>act like a total fool all night long and the cops don't give a flying shit
I am so ready, I can't hardly stand it.

>actually works for a few seconds and make some smoke
>hear a loud pop
>e-brake no longer works
>keep in my mind e-brake wasn't actually an e-brake lever in the middle, it was some stupid tab you pulled out next to the steering wheel
that was the extent of my drifting career

tfw 6 speed accord
Hahah, yeah. sure.
Thoughts on the 2017 Sentra Nismo?

Its too little too late.
Why would you buy a Nismo Sentra when you could spend less money and buy a

Or the same amount for a

>Focus ST
>GTI
?
>>16168500
Every NISMO package is just appearance and trim. Just buy the SR Turbo for like $3000 less.
>>16168500
Seriously? They wait over 5 fucking years to bring this out? For what? To use the fucking Juke engine? Holy shit they're so fucking out of touch its insane
What does /o/ think of my car
Always had a soft spot for the Eclipse
That car is fucking sack
You get in an accident with that car you're getting rekted man fuck that shit yolo not to mention bitches might think you're gay or some shit driving that car I'm not with that shit
>>16168339
I used to think they were pseudoferraris when I didn't know anything about cars.
Hi, /o/
/pol/, /k/, and /his/ here
I am not very familiar with cars, I can change a tire, oil, lights, and that's about it.
I am not a flashy person by any means, I drive a 2002 Jetta station wagon for my daily duties.
But all my life I've wanted a corvette. I love the models between early 70's and early 80's.
What I would like to ask is, which model should I buy?
I'm looking for the best "bang for the buck," simple, reliable, sleek, easy to maintain, smooth ride, accelerates fast, etc
What model should I get /o/?
I'm leaning towards the 1978...
Any year C3 will be fine if you just want a car that looks cool and don't care about stock performance. 74-79 are the worst since they have the least amount of power and most weight. Bad front end causes lots of lift at higher speeds without a front spoiler. 80-81s are the best of the classic Corvettes. Lighter and more aerodynamic than previous years. L-82 and a four speed is the combo you want. The 82 comes with the awful Crossfire Injection and auto only. 68 is a horrible year and the 69-72s are overpriced.
C4s are a huge improvement over the C3 if you're interested in those. 84-87s are cheap but the 88s got aluminum heads, updated suspension, and wider tires. 89 was the first year for the ZF6. And 90-91 have the updated interior and 245bhp out of the L98. LT1s have 300bhp but you have to deal with the Optispark.
>>16168875
>Lighter
How?
C4 bro, it's your best chance at air conditioning.
2005 Subaru Outback
>5 speed manual
>emissions ready
>rust free
>180k miles (mostly highway miles)
>$2500 obo
How are these as dd's?
Should i even be looking at something this "new" with miles that high?
>>16168023
Buy a civic for 3k instead. You don't need awd.
>>16168047
I live in New England and the winters here are nasty and AWD helps a bit.
>>16168054
Snow tires.
sup o
So i drive a 1999 honda accord 4cyl shitbox.
Now it doesnt have a catalytic converter so the check engine light is on for that
I dont wanna buy a new cat because theyre expensive and my shitbox isnt worth enough to warrant buying one, especially when theres no inspections where I live.
So my question is, is there anyway to make the CEL go off so its not bothering me and so if it does turn on for something actually important i know its on?
>>16167813
Fix the cat. You can get an oem replacement for $440 plus a $150 core charge.
Gut the cat and flash the code with. A scanner tool
>>16167869
>$440 plus $150
yeah no.
My car is worth $1500 and theres nothing wrong with it mechanically
Im not putting 600 freedombucks into my shitbox for emissions shit
/o/, I have a confession. I don't know how wrench. I come here every day to try to learn more about cars but it's difficult when every time I don't understand something I go to look it up only to find 3 more things I don't understand. I can do some minmal things like change oil and lights but I want to understand cars, not just watch some guy and copy what he does. Do you guys have any advice on how or where to learn this stuff. By the way I've already killed myself and I have to gtfo, so you don't need to tell me to do it again.
>>16167669
You aren't smart enough to work on cars, give up.
>>16167669
