Is it bad courtesy to listen to music while riding?
88 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
>people ride without music

How else could you possibly tolerate doing something so utterly mundane?
>>
It's no more a risk than driving with your windows up, or listening to the radio.
Of course, you don't have a cage around you to protect you, but if you're gonna die because you're so into your music, then likely you don't have the situational awareness to be on the road in the first place.

>>968895
>hurr durr, closer to nature, ADD generation, etc
Some times it's nice to listen to the crickets at night, or go on an exploration ride, but I wish these retards understood that it's nice to listen something on a regular commute ride, can even add to the experience.

I would hate riding around suburbia without music.
>>
I think it is dangerous to listen to music with both earbuds in. You cannot hear the cars around you

>>968897
come on, you can still hear car horns through closed windows.

>He doesn't

What is your one thing that makes you write off a cyclist?

For me:

>He doesn't know that if he raises his seat he'll be more comfortable and faster

I can't stand it when I see people riding with the seat obviously too low I just want to stop them and lecture them.

I'd honestly love to see roadraged drivers try riding on the road for an afternoon and see how they come out the other side.

I just got a mostly finished mountain bike, but the back wheel is missing 3 spokes(I don't have any mtb wheels to swap either)I rode it about a quarter mile home, now my question is, is this safe to ride gently 5 miles to my LBS so I can respoke and true my wheel? Or should I just bungie the wheel to my road bike and take it down? Because I also wanted to tune up my bike there since they have way more tools and they let me use a station and all their gear when I need work. I could respoke it and take it home, then ride the mtb, but I don't want to if it isn't going to taco my rim to ride on 3 spokes.

Picture semi related.

If you are not grossly overweight, the wheel is quite true at the moment and you ride carefully avoiding bumps and such you should be fine.

People ride hundreds of miles with broken spokes. But don't do that. It only gives you more broken spokes in the long run.

Best solution however would be to take the wheel on your other bike.
>>
>>976053

Thanks, yeah I probably will just take my raleigh instead of the mtb, I looked at it again and the rim isn't quite true but it probably won't be salvageable if it bends more...

Anybody here wear Chinese shit? I already have shorts and was thinking of getting some jerseys for the pockets now that it is getting to hot most of the time for my jackets. Going full ching chong off of Amazon seems cheapest since the brick and mortar shit is all made overseas anyway and I prefer some of the designs over solid colors. Getting the sizing right seems like a complete cluster fuck though.

Anyone got any anecdotes or experience with Nuckily/Wolfbike/Arsuxeo/Wosawe/Xinzechen/probably a dozen others?

I have a Racmmer jersey (bought off aliexpress). Only used it once. The fit is weird, the fabric is pretty shit and sizing is indeed a clusterfuck. Unless you really want/need a full zipper and/or 3 pockets you'd probably be better off going to Decathlon.

You want "hard to mount", try mounting schwalbe winters with your bare hands at night when it's 11 degrees out and you have to take off your gloves to get a good grip

Whenever I shift into any rear gear not in the middle, the bike makes an annoying rattling noise. like popcorn almost

Does my derailleur need an adjustment or something? I know about not going into "extreme gears" but I can't even go into a leftmost or rightmost gear without this annoying shit happening.
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
It's probalby out of alignment due to cable stretch.
Look at the bike from the back and make sure the pulley gear on the derailluer and the selected gear on the cassette are aligned with each other.

If it's aligned with most of the middle gears, but it's skewed on either the top or bottom gear, it's a problem with the limit screw. The limit screw keeps the derailleur from sliding your chain too far out, and there's one for the upper and lower limit. If it's misadjusted, it'll keep you from getting into the upper or lower gears properly.

If it's not, turn the cable adjuster on the derailleur until it's lined up.

If you have any trouble, look up GCN on Youtube, they have a ton of helpful videos on bicycles.

You never do any sort of maintenance on your bike do you, and don't even know how I'll bet. Go get a book on bike maintenance and start learning before your bike gets completely ruined.

Is there a bike for life?
Is it reasonable to buy one?
Would/did you buy one? What would it be?

I'll be 30 soon and I want to get myself finally a nice bike, something like pic related, to serve me till I'm 60. Of course you have to change the parts that wear out but frame and multiple other parts have no reason to go bad even over the span of years. My body proportions will not change anymore too. I do light touring and commuting mostly.

I might be missing out on new advances over the years, but on the other hand some advances are not worth it and the basic principle behind the bike will not change dramatically. Retrofits are also a thing and will be in the future. The precedent is here, even 100 year old bikes work and are serviceable today.

Thoughts?

If i could have only one bike, i'd go for CX or gravel bike.

If you built a bike for life 20 years ago, you'd be stuck with a 1 inch steerer and rim brakes, who knows what the industry will come up with in the next decade or two? Graphene frames might be right around the corner.

Would be useful if your commute is multi-modal. Or if you are a trucker and wanted a bike that could fit in the cab. Or if you travel a lot and wanted a bike that didn't need an oversized case.

It would be great if there was one that you could wear as a backpack to keep both hands free while carrying it.
>>
They could be great if you could make one a functional size still fold down a lot.

I was thinking, solid rubber/foam tires, folding rims, and telescoping tubes? I'm not an engineer, so I don't know what I'm missing.
>>
>>974237

I have a paratrooper. It's not bad outside of being kinda heavy for what it is. I'd only go folding if you ride trains or fly a lot. In my case I hop trains to random towns in japan and just ride in a random direction all weekend.

what are your thoughts on the ikea bike, Sladda?

>The bicycle relies on a corrosion-resistant drive belt, rather than a traditional bike chain. Ikea claims the drive belt will last up to 9,320 miles (15,000 kilometres), which is two to three times longer than the average chain drive.

A month ago I posted about how to treat road rash from a crash where a paint stripe caused me to lose traction and crash.
A couple people told me to kill myself for crashing on a paint stripe.
Anyway, I went back today and the stripe was ground down lol. Apparently crashing on it was a thing.
