Okay /lit/, so I have a problem.
I used to read while subvocalizing. I was fine with my pace. But then I noticed myself not subvocalizing, so I started rereading constantly to make sure I did. Now it's become an ingrained habit and it takes me hours to read, but if I wanted to I could easily stop subvocalizing and read very quickly.
What should I do? I'd be fine just subvocalizing again.

Well everyone reads differently, apparently, but I sub-vocalize while taking notes, highlighting, and tagging pages of significant shit. Needless to say, sometimes it takes my quite a significant amount of time to read some books. But, I spend a significant about of time in study, which makes it. possible, more worth my time. I don't think I'd get away with reading fast and being able to reach my interpretation on some novels. Do what you think is best for you. I think it's best to spend your time understanding what you are looking at.

Whoa! My apologies for the grammar errors.

The worst part is I have really shit retention no matter what, so I can't really tell whether or not I understand what I read even if I didn't subvocalize. The frustration comes in with unnecessary reading. I'm more than willing to read a normal pace if it means better comprehension, but I can't figure out how. It's either sluggishly re-reading and get absolutely everything or speeding and may or may not understand everything.

Yeah, the absolutely everything way is the way to go. Detail upon detail, books are really great if you let them be.
I subvocalize my death.
FUCK /LIT/ HOW DO I DO IT I FEEL LIKE IM GOING INSANE
I TRY READING NORMALLY AND END UP READING THE SAME FUCKING SENTENCE OVER AND OVER TO MAKE SURE I GOT IT ALL
AND WHENEVER I TRY NOT REREAD SENTENCES I JUST END UP SPEEDREADING AND NOT SUBVOCALIZING
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO IM GONNA LOSE IT
I KEEP ON TRYING TO READ BUT I ALWAYS GET STUCK ON SOME WACKY DETAIL AND REREAD THE SAME FUCKING SENTENCE OVER AND OVER AGAIN BECAUSE IM NEVER SURE WHETHER I GOT IT ALL
