Anyone else get tired of analyzing Plato just to find ways to disagree with him? It just feels like such a pointless gesture in philosophy that keeps being repeated instead of adding something new. No modern criticism of his work has the beauty and imagery that the original has making it all seem a waste. Only Nietzsche seemed to combine critique with art

plato was a meme author, and had no discernible talent. he was shitposting, and is literally genre tier fiction. clearly a juvenile author.
>>
>>7692393
Post your most profound work right now then, or post anything you have actually written
>>
>>7692393
Yea, I like how two and a half thousand years of philosophy pretty much come from your shitposting. After all, all philosophy is a footnote to you.

Just got this. A collection of most of Sontag's stuff from the 60s and 70s. What are her good essays and what do you think of Sontag in general?

Notes on Camp is canon and her essay on Syberberg's Hitler: A Film From Germany is brilliant film criticism/theory

Illness As Metaphor and AIDS and Its Metaphors are exceptional books (and personal for her, since she had to deal with breast cancer)

Any robots undergone/studied psychoanalysis?

How long have you been doing it? Made any recent insights or musings you'd like to share (about yourself or others)?

What have you been reading? Do you have anything to recommend outside the usual reading material that people interested in the subject might find intriguing?

Have you read/are you familiar with Freud's work on dream analysis, and would you like to share some of your interpretations?

Personally I've undergone about 2 years of analysis and have been studying it on my own for about a year now. I'm currently wrapping up The Interpretation of Dreams, and I'm looking to pick up some of Freud's case studies which I think I saw at a local second hand bookstore.

Hi, there is another thread about analysis if that interests you.
I'm in analysis since a few months. No particular insight or interpretation to tell "out of the blue" right now, maybe later?
I didn't read a lot, mainly The Interpretation of Dreams, Psychopathology of Everyday Life, Civilization and Its Discontents.

How's your analysis going? How many sessions do you have per week?
>>
Currently reading Jung's Man and His Symbols and it is absolutely amazing. I don't have a lot of experience with psychoanalysis except for having read some basic writings of Freud, but I find Jung's approach to dream analysis much more compelling and interesting than Freud's approach.

What are good novels with this premise? Don't care what time period. Just looking for some good shit that takes place at some point in human history but has fictional characters. Something that shows what that period was like and something I can learn from while being entertained. Here are some examples:

Shogun
King Rat
River God

Yoshikawa Eiji wrote some great historical fiction (that's the name of the genre I believe you're after)

Try "Musashi" if you want to read about a single guy's exploits, or "Taiko" if you want a more grander, political scale. Both are amazing.

For more Roman times, try "I, Claudius" or "Memoirs of Hadrian"

Nietzsche, you need disdain for plebs and pleb habits.

Has anyone read this? I was up until 5am this morning finishing it. I'd been meaning to read it since the author hails from my country and won the Booker prize back in 2014.

As bad as Trump is, he's much better than Cruz.
Cruz would be, I don't know, the novelization of King Kong or something.

Fuck I think I remember that. He shakes Carter's hand and has a vision of him becoming President or something.

I haven't read very much in the way of philosophy. I've been reading Zarathustra lately.
This is really beautifully written. Really enjoying it. The ideas are fascinating- it resolved for me a sort of existential crisis.
What are some other philosophical books I might like? I've heard Nietzsche is similar to a lot of eastern philosophy- something like that? Or I've also been interested in Plato

Gurdjieff.

>>7691796

What existential crisis did it solve for you?

I would generally advise to start with the Greeks. Plato really is an essential starting point.

love is something experience not read about.

tl;dr; go to your local catholic church, confess your sins from the heart, the worse things about yourself. partake in the eucharist. you're on your way to agape. a love for a women will happen somewhere along the way.
