Am I just missing something with this guy or are meditations 3-6 just shite?
>>7686216
No one gives a shit about the later part of that book. Just think of him as the dude who said, "Woah, what if like, the world is just an illusion, man. Good thing I know I'm real lol." That's literally all you need to know.
>>7686229
Don't forget his famous proposition "Give her the dick"
>>7686216
You're missing something. If you have a jstor account, look up Richard Kennington, and any of his articles on Descartes.
Can hip-hop have literary merit?
cuck music
Of course it's possible.
>>7705863
no. It has neither literary, musical or artistic merit in any way. I hate the way they keep trying to shove it down our throats. Just like Jazz and Rock back in the day, it represents a further degradation of music as an artform. do yourself a favor and go listen to Bach. that is real music
what do you guys think about ta nehisi coates?
Ape tier.
>>7704373
He's a meme-"intellectual" who's thought of as a genius by default by the black community because there's no one else who's really talking about the same things as he is. It wouldn't be hard to do better, but no one in a position to be heard seems to care enough to do it.
>>7704373
Just as he was gaining cultural traction as "the only black author with pretensions of literary greatness"NOT a view I shareMarlon James came and blew him out of the water.
Why the FUCK
do people like this book?
>>7704266
only retards that never read anything good in their lives, like /v/.

Why is Yukio Mishima the only well-respected author who seems to have written about strength training?
Is there nothing from Ancient Athens about it?
idk
Who /fitlit/ here?
>>7703502
I'm not actually browsing fit but I do lift 3-4 times a week.
so what's the premise of your opus magnum that you'll write once your writing skills are good enough?
If your premise isn't to finish philosophy and political philosophy in favour of materialism and globalism then you are wrong
A strange journey across the deep future of the world in which everything has a double meaning, in which all learning to this point is included, and in which all things are directed, subtly but persistently, towards God.
I'll Pierre Menard Borges' Ficciones.
Can an author get sued if he includes the names of real people in his work?
I'm currently writing the fifth installment of my six-part memoir and the word count has already reached 512k words. So far I've been using the real names of the people in my life though after reading an article about Thomas Wolfe recently I'm beginning to worry about potential legal action when my book inevitably becomes culturally significant and widely read.
Should I change the names to pseudonyms?
If so it's going to take many days to find and replace hundreds of names, some only appearing once or twice. This really is a hurdle I hadn't anticipated.
YOU CAUGHT MY ATTENTION THIS TIME BECAUSE YOU USED PEPE
JUST CHANGE THE NAMES. YOU'VE ALREADY SPENT DAYS WRITING THE DAMN THING
>>7703245
>DAYS
I've spend over a year and a half writing it so far, with at least six hours of each day dedicated to it. It really will be a large revision project and I'm really not sure whether I should just trust my instincts and use any potential legal problems as a marketing tool in order to add even more "hype" to the eventual publication.

I'm halfway into this and so far it's brilliant. What does /lit/ think?
Masterpiece, some say it's the best novel written in Spanish since Don Quixote.
25% of the way into it according to my kindle, started yesterday and I knew I'd like it from the first chapter, it's brilliant
the first half is great, but everything after that is bitterly disappointing
/lit/ What is art?
I'm being serious to please try to give an actual response. I have to write an essay in response to this question tomorrow and I'm an alcoholic who procrastinated while reading too much Dostoyevsky.
An why should we foster your addiction? Get your shit together.
>>7699418
Please, everything in my life has fallen apart
>>7699439
Time to rebuild it. Part of getting your shit together is to not run away from your responsibilities anymore, so why not write this essay on what Art is, and start anew?
Thoughts on the decline of the west? Was Spengler right about recurring Caesarism, decadence, and the cyclical rise and decay of high cultures? I can't help but feel as if I am seeing potential Caesarism arising in the United states. Thoughts on this?
>>7700182
Eh, I think as the West becomes more and more connected, we're just going to reach a general hegemony
I also enjoy seeing how Spengler's work influenced Lovecraft particularly in his short story 'the nameless city' where it seems the rise and decay of the civilization is alluded to. Particularly when lovecraft is describing the frescoes he studied while exploring the ruins of the abandoned city. Kind of unrelated, but I find Spengler's ideas fascinating. https://youtu.be/FsaieZt5vjk
I find it interesting to note how reactionary authors such as evola preached traditionalism and yet failed to marry and father children.
Has a book or story ever made you shed tears, /lit/?
Yes. WhenLee Scoresby and Hesterin The Subtle Knife
Don't know why, it just hurt me real bad. Other people who have read it that I have spoken to have been blasé about it.heartless cunts
Some parts of The Brothers K
In Madame Bovart, when Eva gets married and her father sees her leaving the village and remembers when he was young. Powerful stuff.
Literary confessions thread/times you've been called out for being a pleb thread.
Be honest, anons. We're faaaaaamily here.
i can't think
i can't write
i have no discernible talent.

- I dog-ear my own books to the sentence/paragraph I left off from so I know exactly where to pick up my progress from.
- I think Baz Luhrmann's Great Gatsby adaptation is the most accurate to the noveland even think it better than the original novel. DiCaprio as Gatsby just makes sense.
- I don't really bother looking for the best translations, I just know that I should stay away from whatever Wordsworth use.
>>7691012
i can't read anymore without amphetamines.
if i take amphetamines, i lose my affection for my loved ones, but i find an ultimate joy in literature.
i have chosen my loved ones over art, and i feel sometimes that i have made the wrong choice, and have squandered an alternate destiny.
Any Plato.
So who's getting The C Section when it comes out?
boul you already no !!!!!!
>>7702395
I don't want to watch the 19 second video right now but what is it, exactly? A new book or some sort of repackaged version of his old stuff?
>>7702462
Impossible to find stuff he wrote in high school, letters between him and his editor, short stories that can't be found anywhere else
And there are only going to be 15 made.
