Dimitri verhulst is a perfect combination between cynical, accesible, hilarious and beautifull prose without becoming a Bukowski rip. Glad to see one of my favourite Belgian writers mentioned here.
Also: How the fuck would you translate "De helaasheid der dingen?"
Great title if you ask me. Same with "Nothing, no one and fairly quiet", "Love unless otherwise mentiond" and "Goddamned days on a goddamned globe".

How to be an anthropology:
>read Mauss while pacing reverentially in a perfect circle around Durkheim's Elementary Forms, then give Mauss away as a gift to someone
>read Sapir in Chinese
>read Boas in a multicultural crowd
>read Levy-Bruhl while sitting on a copy of Frazer
>read Levi-Strauss while bulking and getting a lot of tattoos
>read Geertz while cutting, and write a cipher to your tattoos' collective inner coherence
>finally, climb onto your roof, and start screaming POSTCOLONIALISM POSTCOLONIALISM POSTCOLONIALISM while surgically altering your gender

Hi guys. I have great need of Zelazny's story "The Misfit" (Amazing) (October 1963). No scan or anything on the internets. Where can I get it, if I'm living in Ukraine? Please advice.

I see the story has been also published here http://www.nesfa.org/press/Books/Zelazny-1.html

Is there a known paradox anywhere in literature that describes an inability to make up your mind about anything? Something similar to "What the Tortoise Said to Achilles" but not quite so much about laying down rules. I'm looking for a paradox about the human mind, specifically.

The mind is always strengthening some neural pathways while others are weakening from neglect. A good number of books related to psychology and neuroscience (and self-help shit) enjoy pointing out the malleability of the human brain.

Although this understanding of malleability is rather modern, I'm sure there must be a philosopher or artist who describes a specific paradox where you can't really be absolutely sure about anything, simply because your mind is always changing slightly. The organization of information will never be the same. Even when you reinforce one idea, you do it at the cost of others and the general overview still changes.

Dunno. What versions do you own?

I own none, hence the reason for seeking advice.

What's /lit's opinion on watching tv and tvshows? I notice I get really bored and disengaged after watching too much tv for too long. I also become really sleepy and dull and when I bingewatch too much I notice I can't engage in social interaction that well. I'd rather just be reading.

Anyone have any experience here? I think /lit is one of the few places where people might just instead read all day

I have a fairly weak grasp of Scandinavian myths.
I have vague ideas, I know that most of it uses battle as a metaphor for natural processes. (The Sun and Moon are fighting wolves, the Seasons are Odin and Laufey fighting)
I've tried to read the Prose Edda (or listen to it on Youtube rather) But it's a little too dense for me to actually understand.
What books does /lit/ recommend for better understanding Norse Myth?

you're going to have to actually read the eddas and reread them. they're dense and move quickly and you'll need to go back over them a few times. annotated versions are helpful.

in addition to tracking down a good translation of the eddas (i'm reading an out of copyright public domain translation), i'm going to reread the d'aulaires version because i haven't read it since i was a kid. it's super simplified but the pictures will make me nostalgic.

For those of you who have written something of significant size or meaning, how did you start? I feel that every time I go to write something nothing comes out or if something does it means literally nothing to me and is boring as shit. So hearing the catalyst to your works I feel would help me. Did it happen gradually? Did something hit you with the force of a revelation? How clear was the idea when you started and did it differ by the time you were finished?

it helps to outline events. write a few lines about what your character is doing today

anon is going to the bar
he needs to get cash out at the ATM first
he gets anxious because the bar is full of chads
he goes home to fap about the voice of the ATM machine

then fill it in,
it was a disgusting normie day, anon scraped off the cum stained sheets that had cemented itself to his body hair overnight. the curtains slightly ajar, letting a sliver of light into the room, illuminating the floating dust particles. anon thought to himself, "I really should clean up my moms spaghetti that I spilt all over the floor." wading through the piles of peepee poopoo, he made his way to the bathroom, popping the giant poopoo boil on his face with his favorite lancet, he sat down to poopoo peepee. got dressed, whatever normies do in the morning, stepped outside.

the sun bore down on him, the heat of the light feeling like a heavy weight upon his body. "why do I even leave the house?" well lets go get some cash so i can numb the pain of existence. heading to the ATM, he spied a cute loli and considered molesting her. inserting his card, he chuckled to himself about how only moments before how easy it would have been to slip is benis into her bagina. the soft cooing voice of the ATMs prompting voice evoked memories of the last girl he'd managed to capture. the gentle voice called out to him, touching his very soul, "anon-kun, h-how much cash do you want? I just want you to be happy anon-kun." pressing a few buttons, the machine proceeded to rattle and vibrate, culminating in an ejaculation of cash.....

you get the idea. you can expand out the story from a few events. just describe the characters and what they're doing.
