How do you define creativity? Does something have to be valuable to be creative or just original? How do we determine something's value or interest such that we can deem it truly creative?

Well, creativity does not necessarily mean good culture, it just means creative, I guess you could call it outside of the box thinking. However, what is successful and considered good is a function of the current society. Think for yourself what you enjoy or not, listen to other people because they may be right about what is quality and what is shit for a reason you had not thought of, but ultimately it is you who makes that decision of what you like.
>>
>>7694025
creativity is the cumulative awareness of abstract form, convention and artistic tropes. For some people this awareness is so great that their capacity for creation is not merely informed by the aforementioned factors, but actively surpasses or overwhelms their aesthetic potential to say something which has been left as-yet unsaid within the limits of conformity.

Of course, this definition is very specific to literary or artistic mediums only - though it appears to me that creativity in other fields would operate under the same analogous principles.

Is there a plugin for calibre to search inside books?
11 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Back way around it, but I believe if you convert books to text with calibre you can search the directory for specific words via normal windows search. I know it works for .csv
>>
>>7694005
in unix you can use the command line:
find -type f | xargs grep -n "text to search"
>>
>>7694005
double click on the book in the calibre list, it'll open up a virtual book reader, then just ctrl+f, then search whatever text you're looking for.

Just keep writing and you'll find more moments like it. If you are dead set on writing then orient everything in your life around creating those moments. Your mood, your living, people around you: everything.

But just remember that in a year, or a month, or maybe even in just a couple days what you wrote will look like shit, and it's not because you've become better. It's because you can never be your own reader.
>>
>>7693975
dude I don't even care, I just want the positivity to continue. That's the hardest part of writing, staying positive. Even if it's really shit, you can make it good if you work hard enough at editing it.

If this was a retelling of genesis, what was Adam's fall? What was the original sin? The stolen money from his father, maybe? Adam actually seems to be one of the only completely innocent characters in the book. He never undergoes a fall at all.

It isn't a retelling of genesis.
I was a moralistic hamfisted retelling of Cain and Abel story.

A fun read, but not challenging at all.

Let us all take a moment to appreciate the genius of William Blake.

Does anyone else regret the death of Christianity as the great spiritual influence on western art? I think we are still waiting for a reaction to the enormous vacuum it left and to future generations we will be a cultural dark age at the death of a great tradition.

>inb4 the future is Islam

It would honestly be an improvement on modern art and reactionary politics

Blake was definitely great. I largely agree with your sentiments regarding Christianity. I can't help but shake my head, for example, at people trying to read Flannery O'Connor who have no knowledge of Catholicism. But they're tomorrow's literary writers. :(

"The Lamb"/counterpart to the first post

Little Lamb who made thee
Dost thou know who made thee
Gave thee life & bid thee feed.
By the stream & o’er the mead;
Gave thee clothing of delight,
Softest clothing wooly bright;
Gave thee such a tender voice,
Making all the vales rejoice!
Little Lamb who made thee
Dost thou know who made thee

Little Lamb I’ll tell thee,
Little Lamb I’ll tell thee!
He is called by thy name,
For he calls himself a Lamb:
He is meek & he is mild,
He became a little child:
I a child & thou a lamb,
We are called by his name.
Little Lamb God bless thee.
Little Lamb God bless thee.

never read it in high school, tried to pick it up in college but by then it was too late to ignore the obvious flaws. seems like a really good book to get people into literature though. actually, in my experience it's more like "read this one book then claim to enjoy literature", but whatever, better than nothing I guess.

Vonnegut was a meme author, and had no discernible talent. He was shitposting, and is literally genre tier fiction. clearly a juvenile author.

Has anyone read this, it is often cited as a foundational work to feminist theory.

I may read it for insight into the movement and its ideas/grievances. One must humor the gender argument as part of solidifying their political ideas.

Thought and opinions requested.

She fails to argue that Lesbianism is not Freudian/Lacanian.

Not that it is necessarily but her arguments are weak.

Otherwise it's overly-reliant on Sartre's bogus philosophy (literally a DUDE FREEDOM LMAO interpretation of Heidegger - very bad, but even Beauvoir decided to defend him after Heidegger wrecked his shit).

She has some interesting things to say of literature but it's mostly a tract that she wrote but didn't believe in because she lived the complete opposite.

Just read about her accusations of rape.

Is that to say she argues that free will exists and men use it to knowingly oppress women in some capacity?

Philosophy noob here. Thoughts on Camus?

The first philosophy book I've read is the Myth of Sisyphus. It was comforting in some parts, and really incomprehensible in others.

How does this compare to his other stuff, or to the works of other existentialists, or to other schools of thought?

>his other stuff
is usually better than Myth.
>the works of other existentialists
better than those.
>the works of other existentialists
top kek, you can't really expect anyone to do a comparative study of existentialism vs 80 other schools.

But on that matter: exis had a lot of appeal because it fit the post-WWII atheist zeitgeist a huge lot. It's also accessible philosophy and it was the #1 school for that part of the XX century mostly because of these two reasons.
>>
>>7693725

>>
>>7693725
cool. do you have any recommendations for classic work that you think fits today's zeitgeist?
