I really don't think that it depends of these factors. You could think one would have best transference with people from his/her own social group, but that's a lot more complicated than that

What are some equivalent phrases/idioms for "down the rabbit hole"?

Reaching here. Ignore context and hit me with anything that's remotely similar in any context.

"Drinking the Kool-aid" is originally a reference to the Jonestown massacre which took place in Guyana about 35 years ago. A group of religious separatists/cultists all drank from a tank of Kool-aid that had been laced with poison, at the behest of the leadership. So the literal and original context is suicide, or being led to suicide.

However, in American usage, "drinking the kool-aid" has also come to mean signing on with what the user wishes to describe as a crazy or unattractive idea: the wrong political party, the wrong cause, etc. We could easily describe pink-haired SJWs has having "drunk the kool-aid" of leftism, as one example. To drink the kool-aid signals both /true belief/ on the drinker's part, but is also to be duped into doing something that will ultimately destroy the person, the state, whatever's important in the discussion. It is this notion of "true believers" which is closest to your rabbit hole thing (if going down the rabbit hole means learning the truth).

However, the rabbit hole thing was also used famously by Morpheus in the original Matrix movie, and so Carroll's phrase also has contemporary associations with "Taking The Red Pill".

Or better yet, let's repair to the original text, which is Alice (Adventures) in Wonderland: the rabbit hole is also a source of multiplying confusion, of going away from the surface world into something strange, a Wonderland. A bit later, Alice (apparently, I have not read the book) says "Curiouser and Curiouser!"

Alice is easy to conflate with Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, as both are girls who find themselves in strange new worlds. Furthermore, during the above matrix scene, a character indicates that "Kansas is goin' bye-bye." Therefore, if one is tumbling into a very confusing situatoin, "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore."

Just OTTOMH, I would also suggest watching Spirited Away, Labyrinth or reading the Narnia books for other examples of girls and young women (and young men) who are fantastically thrust into strange new circumstances.

Or if one finds oneself in a sticky situation, in American business contexts (I've been in board rooms where older men used the phrase frequently) being "in the tall weeds" indicates that you are in a tricky, tedious problem or set of problems, which have to be managed. Or you have to parse through lots of data which is not amenable to a simple discussion, which business-people hate. To be In The Tall Weeds, like the Rabbit Hole, is rooted in nature, but indicates a general confusion, which is the real commonality this time.

People were recommending wheel of time around here, so I finally got around to reading it, and I have to say that the book is pretty boring and cliche. I've only read first 100 pages though, but it feel like it was 200, as the story is advancing extremely slowly. Should I expect something more from it or is it going to be the same for the rest of the books?

Is man essentially a machine? Discuss the essay.

>>7689886
Man is not a machine because machines act on rationality, whereas human beings sometimes act irrationally in order to exercise their ability as free agents to simply do what they are not told to do.

>read Notes From Underground
>>
>>7689886
yes, it is an irrational machine
>>
>>7689892
We might function irrationally but that doesn't mean that our essential processes aren't machine like.

For instance, I can program an irrational robot, but his internal decision making is strictly rational.

This.

Some unwritten rules about poetry:

1-Although rhythm, assonance, alliteration (the whole question of musicality, and even rhyme, when it comes to rhyming poetry) are important, and although the feeling or idea that the poem communicates is a valid and significant thing, it is the metaphor and the imagery the greatest aspect of poetry. Young poet, above all other things, work on your imagery.

2- Having in mind the rule nÂș 1, it must be said that you can produce good poems without using metaphors, but if you do not master this tool and use it frequently in your literature your work will lack much of what is most beautiful in poetry, and therefore you will be a minor poet.

3-Only poets who bet everything in the musicality of their verses will actually lose all their value in the translation. Poets who make use of an inventive, effervescent, strange and original language: poets who use metaphors and new ways of seeing the world (who see strange combinations of things that were alien before): such poets will be valued and read and cause brain amazements and chills in the marrow even in translation.

4-The story-teller poet, the one who writes epic poems, or plays (in short, the poet who creates characters and plots) will always be celebrated and valued and read much more than the lyric poet.

5-A poet that can only be appreciated in its original language and lose everything in translation is undoubtedly a minor poet. An example: Pushkin (even if the Russians insist on his god-like powers).

6-Ideas, philosophies, beliefs, messages: all these things are inferior to language when it comes to poetry. A poet who mastered the language (and especially metaphor and imagery) that writes a poem about a flea would have produced a more meaningful poem than a mediocre poet who produces a poem about freedom, universal love, or a poem proposing a new philosophy.

When was the last time you wrote someone a letter that wasn't a formal school/company requirement?

I plan to write a letter to an important friend for their birthday and it's kind of important to me that I write a good one for them.

Do you have any tips /lit/?

Well first of all , we shoul talk about the form.

Use proper Paper, a ink pen (black ink of course) , leave a margin of about 2 cm on each side (left and right) while writing. try to "block" it.
>>
Here is how I write: Bic pen on notebook paper. Preferably crumpled a bit so it looks authentic.

Yo,

AS I PUT MY PEN TO PAPER...

Then just whatever you want, who gives a shit? It's a letter, not a state of the union address. Finish it off by putting it in the envelope, melting some red crayon wax on it, and then sealing it like that. Don't forget to fuck your mailman.
>>
I wrote letters to my friend when they were doing their military service.

My problem is my penmanship is atrocious but I don't ever write except notes to myself so I never cared to correct it.

As a logical system Aristotle intends the Organon to be complete and self subsistent. He doesn't mention the soul after the part you're referencing.
