Been really getting into Bukoswki lately, just discovered him and can't stop reading. Any authors you know if with his kinda style? I can relate to the whole misery, depression, alcoholic, suicidal characters. I already love Kerouac, Burroughs. Any other down on their luck miserable authors you recommend for a person constantly thinking about the next drink or suicide?
Stop having shit taste and start reading Celine
>>7870169
This is honestly the best advice anybody can give you on the subject, OP.
>>7870171
Not saying that Bukowski is that bad but seriously OP, being told to read Celine is good advice.

Please recommend books on antinatalism.
>>7869833
Antinatalism is a kike plot to convince you against producing white children.
>>7869845
Ecclesiastes is antinatalist as well so you might be on to something.
GR >UlyssesFight me, faggot.
You know you're a literary man when you're able to recognize an author by his hairline, haha

The only books I've read are Harry Potter and LotR when I was young. Currently reading Count of Monte Christo. In short I'm a uneducated pleb or DYEL if this was /fit/
I've seen the /lit/ top 100 chart and I've heard I should avoid the meme trinity.
So is it possible to sort the toplist from beginner to hard or do I just go from top down? Where would you start?
>>7869610
Avoiding the memes is a meme. You should read the memes but also heed my prior advice. Get what I'm getting at?
The consensus is that you should start with Hegel's "Phenomenology of Spirit" and finish with Godel's "On Formally Undecidable Propositions of Principia Mathematica"
>>7869610
Read what seems interesting to you. Fuck /lit/.
Imagine you're going to jail and you can bring 5 books but they have to be works of poetry.which works would you choose?
>>7869583
Would you include epics?
>>7869613
Yeah anything in verse. Prose poetry works too
>>7869583
Definitely the book of psalms so I can fit in with the idiot bible thumping prisoners and prevent them from shanking me.
I am amazed to find that this book is EXACTLY what you guys meme'd it out to be.
>Overtly, I had so-called normal relationships with a number of terrestrial women having pumpkins or pears for breasts; inly, I was consumed by a hell furnace of localized lust for every passing nymphet whom as a law-abiding poltroon I never dared approach.
Seriously hilarious shit. It's like he knew there would be lolis one day and tons of trolling about them. This book is proving to be one huge master ruse. Do people really read this with unironic disgust? I'm reading it for my world lit class and I find myself a little embarrassed to read it in public just because of its infamy.
>>7869451
Who gives a fuck? It's a wonderful book of bantz and you should enjoy it as such
>>7869451
>It's like he knew there would be lolis one day
There have been nymphets forever.
I have a blank leather cover for mine so I don't cause a scene reading it in public

I am searching for literature the depicts the collapse of societies or nations (it doesnt matter if it is fictional or historical ) on the street level. Meaning that I am looking for stories that illuminate the everyday life of everyday people.
So do you have any suggestions?
Thanks
>>7869212
Foundation by Asimov might be what you're after
>>7869221
Book 1 of the seven?
>>7869212
Would you count Dubliners?
Hey, /lit/. I'm 18 I've never really been a huge book guy aside from graphic novels and fantasy books. Recently, I've had an impulse to read some literature. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good book to start with existentialism or depression closure? I've been diagnosed with depression and anxiety with problems seeing only the worst in most things, so I'd like to be immersed in a story aswell as to gain some insight.
Read Sun and Steel by Yukio Mishima you big baby
>>7869140
I've hear of Yukio Mashima before. What kind of book is Sun and Steel?
>>7869140
Or is this just a subtle message telling me to commit sodoku?
So I am really into playwriting, and I plan on doing a lot of traveling soon. Thats why I like the appeal of an alphasmart, but would it be easy to format a play on it? (I format with tabs) I'm just worried it would fuck it up in the end.
I would personally go for the FreeWrite™ device.

but i don't have autism
Just get a shitty laptop with a big battery, you can get thinkpads for like 80 bucks
What is your opinion on Lord of the Flies?
I've only got to chapter 9, and honestly it's kind of boring to me. The whole idea of it is interesting, and the symbolism is neat, but actually reading it is painful.
It is absolute shite, i was angry all through reading it. it was that bad
>>7868769
It's all an allegory for British colonialism.
>>7868769
I read it in high school and liked it. I still remember it as good, but it's been some years since I read it, also.
